My friend Nicholas loved this game. It was the first thing we spoke about when we met 7 years ago. He took his life last year and I've dreaded picking up this game since. I think I'm playing it again now because it feels cathartic in a way. I think he would have loved to see all the updates for the game.

Depression is an insidious thing, and even if someone loses that battle, what matters is you were there for your friend until the end. Surviving that loss is another hardship. If it's a lot. play the game in small pieces. If you're feeling overwhelmed by emotion, that's okay. It's tied to a friend you lost, it's going to have an impact. What I can say is this: I'm just one guy a world away in the US, but I'll set a candle out for you and Nicholas.

I want to have the opportunity to craft a crossbow after level 5 archery and so that parts for it can be found one at each location, so that there is interest I want to go there, and not all rifles are the same. I want a new kind of fish in new territories, bats in some caves, making more powerful arrows for a crossbow from owl feathers. And you add almost identical guns.

A lot of these new changes/updates sound great but I think I'm most excited about the updated loot tables, I hope those tables continue to be updated/changed in the future too as once you've played survival enough times you start to familiarise yourself with what loot to expect where and removes a chunk of the immersion IMO.

Horrible strategy to build a lifelong fan base, have you considered doing NFT's? You can add vending machines that produce a can of summit soda with a unique art on the can and all users have to do is link their wallets up and BAM for $13.99 a can we can survive a single night with a collectable that's lost to the ether when you die. The only problem I have with this update is they should have given us the final chapter(s) of Wintermute at the same time. Its been a LONG time, and people want the conclusion of the main story line, especially since it's soo short as it is. And stringing along updates for expansion content over a whole year, just isn't attractive. Just finish the game already. Give us all the content on release rather than trickling it to us. This game is already almost 10 years old. People have probably literally bought this game and died before they could finish it.

This is one of my favorite games of all times and I would love to buy expansions for it! With one caveat... as long as the expansions include a total of zero timberwolves. Timberwolves are a garbage mechanic. I have way more than a thousand hours in this game and I still refuse to play maps with them.

I've been a supporter of TLD since I got my very first Xbox One back in 2015 when it was on game preview. And my goodness this has came so far along! Great job! With that said, I'm looking for more immersion to the game going into the expansion pass updates. More voices for characters, customizable character demographics, more animations for first person (turning up a bottle of water to drink or picking up the food to eat), the ability to cook TV dinners over fire, a compass, binoculars, hot meat being cooked adds warmth bonus, different weapons (maybe a crossbow, slingshot for rocks, the ability to wield a hatchet or throwing knife, etc. I don't mean to be overly critical of what the game DOESNT have. I'm just happy that they listen to the community. If it's come this far maybe I can get a few things in my wishlist above! Who knows

What I loved most about TLD was the initial challenge about being dropped somewhere unfamiliar and then struggling to find shelter, clothing and food before freezing up. Unfortunately, I also want a sense of accomplishment and restarting survival modes with no closure doesnt give that. So apart from exploring all 13 maps over the cours of 100 hours, what I wanted the game is to provide us with short challenge modes. The official challenges are quite difficult and not really fun like escaping an invisible monster or finding grave markers with no healthbar refill. I prefer simple challenges like: hunt 10 deer or 5 wolves or 1 bear or bring item X to location Y and have some sense of randomness to it, like being able to do it after spawning on any map. Hopefully your new tales mode adds such mini quests with a good ending.

While this is a nice thing to break up the long hiatus that seems to plague the update schedule, I can't help but be a little irked that you will not put a firmer date on when episode 5 will drop. Yay it may or may not be next year, but if you have this out, then I would think you have a much firmer idea of how close the next episode is to being complete. But hey, I bought the season pass, like a bunch of other people did, so you're less likely to fold before the end of the episodes that the initial backers paid for and expect.

They didn't say anything about save game compatibility with the new update. I think you can only continue playing your current save if you are on steam through a non-updated version.

Currently a person can grind them out on pilgrim if they so wish, I don't want that, but I also don't want to play on the harder difficulties with the extreme caloric consumption. If we can grind out challenges in pilgrim, why not in custom difficulty?

Thank you, the long dark team. I've had a tradition of playing The Long Dark over the New Year holidays for 8 years now and it's great to see you bring something new to the game every year. I'd really like you to start creating a remake on Unreal Engine 5 with modern graphics. No one but you could make such a cool survival simulator, but with modern graphics. Everyone would definitely like it, with your experience you can go far in this. Good luck!

nah, the long dark looks great, it's stylized. Realism is boring. Not worth a port to an entirely different engine just for some fancy lighting effects.

Graphics will just make the game focus all the resources in the wrong direction. Please do not put all the effort on graphics and gain so little. The game is alive because of the correct focus of resources.
