Hilo was reclassified as a Caladium from Alocasia. :) So you're correct! It definitely has more Caladium vibes so seeing it listed as Alocasia is weird to me haha. I think I should try nutrient water for my water propagation plants. I like to use beneficial bacteria and have found transitioning with that has been much easier (less fails). Very much enjoying your videos!

Thank you so much for all your information on your page. I’ve just moved my first plants over to Leca this week. I hope I’m not going to kill my little African violets. But they HAted their new soil mix. So I thought leca might be the one for me. I didn’t have any nutrient solution, but read it is ok to withhold nutrients for a Couple of weeks if you have to chop off any root rot. I can’t wait till my pothos look as amazing as yours do one day! Thanks again Nora for your videos

I just wanted to add that when I transfer to LECA, I first place all my plants in water for about a month. Pretty much what you do except I don't add any nutrient to the water. I wanted to say that my plants still look beautiful without the nutrient. Reason why I don't add that during the transition is because I'm not sure the nutrients for semi hydro would shock the roots more than help them since they are not water roots yet. Tldr; it's not true you have to necessarily add nutrients if you are leaving the plants in water for about a month or so before transitioning. Just sharing my experience. Thank you for your videos, they are really helpful ❤️

Each person has their own way and reason for doing things. I like the way Mrs. Nora does it using the water with the nutrients first because I can see excellent results. The roots on her plants look strong and healthy and thereafter are Leca ready. When I put my plants in just water and then transferred to Leca, they didn't do well. From what I've seen with Mrs. Nora's plants, the nutrient seems to provide the roots with what is needed to grow healthy in water instead of soil. I'm going with using the water with nutrients (as soon as I can get some) then Leca. But, I'm glad it works for you. Kudos

Thank you for your lovely comment. I am glad your plants are thriving. I know a lot of people do not believe in using nutrients early on. I am in the camp that does, but also appreciate the different methods of plant care. If something works for you and your plants I encourage you to do it. This works beautifully for my plants.

well i dont think there is a right or wrong answer. what i use with water propagations is usually a small dose of fertilizer and i put epipremnum cuttings into every jar because those put natural rooting hormones out to share.

OMG just what i was looking for!!! Very new to leca.....plants I moved from soil to leca, suffered.....i pulled them out, cleaned up the roots & placed them in water. They perked up & now I am just waiting for a stronger root system to put them into leca......glad to know, from you, that this seems to be the process that really works. looking forward to more presentations..thank you

SAME!!! Most of the ones I transferred straight over have really struggled. I’m now going back through and removing them from the leca, putting them in water with just dilute root tonic and they will stay there until they look healthy again. I was so worried I would loose my favourite plants but so far I’ve only had 1 complete loss out of 20 plants I transitioned. I wish I had seen this first! Brilliant way to softly transition. Good luck with your plants!!

I get alocasias and caladiums confused all the time so I just conveniently leave off that part 😉. Your Hilo beauty is very pretty. I did recently see a video from another plant tuber that said the difference is in how the leaf connects to the petiole in such a way that caladium leaf points down and alocasia leaf points up.
@TheLecaQueen2 жыл бұрын
Oh thank you! That is very useful to know. I just call the plant what the label says. I know I do not have enough knowledge in that space to speak with any authority so I call it what the label says. If the label is wrong ...whatcan I say!

Even with that new info I'm still like, uh, is that leaf pointing up or down? So you may call it whatever you want and I'd still never know 😂. In one of your videos you mentioned some fancy Italian leca. Do you find any difference in leca brands or shape (round vs irregular) or sizes?

@ The leca Queen, I love your videos, been watching you for about a year, I think am ready to change to leca. Fungus gnats are a pain. I have started with some cuttings delicosa, Philodendron brasil, golden pothos, 2x rubber plants. My Philodendron birkin I washed the soil of and cut back the roots, I want the water roots to grow to give them a better chance. I am based in the UK, just wandering if I have to put anything in the water to help with the new root growth. Ordered my leca and super thrive, the solutions you use are too pricey for me here was wandering if plant start, cal mag, diamond nectar is good to use. I'd appreciate any advice you could give please can't wait for my new plant journey. 😊

ok, you just answered my question. I just switched an aloccasia longiloba from soil using the long method. I waited about a week after purchasing. my question is, is it a normal thing to lose a few leaves. 4 out of 12 leaves turned yellow. I watch every day for any changes, should I be concerned. this is my first time. hoping for success. I'd like to transfer all my aloccasias. testing 1, so far. I know you said it's ok for 1 leaf. ???
