I came across a Glock 17L gen 1 in a pawn shop and bought it as it looked really old for around 450 bucks. It had that long slide and the grip had a "pebble style" all around. It had a DB serial prefix which indicated the year 1988 it was imported. I still kick myself to this day as I sold it needing the cash, as I was out of a job years ago.

I enjoy the long sight radius. It's nice for longer shots in open country. I'm not sure why other gun manufacturers don't make a long slide that's readily available.

My understanding is that the G17L is not optional for competition. Owning a G17L and a G34, when I attempt to use the 17L in competition, I am told "it does not fit the box".. Thank you for sharing Lenny, it is an awesome firearm for long shots..

That depends on the competition. Most matches do not have you put the gun in a box. Its only the ones meant for carry guns

That would very clearly depend on what competition your shooting and what division (IDPA, USPSA [open, CO, etc])

It's designed to give maximum power to the 9mm round, and when using super spicy 9mm loads, it can be an advantage in steel shooting competition. Further, you can get this or much longer barrels and drop them right into a regular 17. I have a 10 inch barrel for my Glock 20/40 and it's great. They do the same exact thing.

@@lbphilroy Whether it's IPSC or USPSA based, the one thing in common is that you generally should be able to carry the weapon you're competing with. Another factor is the division. Most are limited, but some competitions also have an "open" division as well. You just have to find those.

Really need the Glock 17LL which is Glock 17L upgraded with a carbine rifle 20" barrel that has a 6" suppressor threaded on too and the pistol can be quickly disassembled down to fit in a fanny pack case.

I'm from Germany and have been shooting a G19 Gen4 for 4 years. It already has front gearing, an enlarged slide stop lever and an iron sight with phosphor illuminated dots. I shoot the gun regularly and get really good results. The trigger isn't a sports trigger, but I stay at 12-15 cm at 25 meters and that's enough for me, I'm already old ;)

I have the 17M which is rare they say.some videos say it was for FBI,ATF etc etc...its a a Gen 5 but does not have MOS which is fine with me,I keep mine pretty stock.i also have a stock slim 380 Glock a 42 I believe...i hope to add a 19x,45 and 49 just because it will be like having like 6 different variations!! Then just to stock up on 9mm and im ready for the apocalypse lol!!

The Glock 24 is a Glock 17L in 40 S&W. And the Glock 24 is probably more rare. Furthermore the Glock 40 is larger.

I own a 24, and one of my favorite Glocks! And the long slide really turns the felt recoil down to that similar of a 9mm.

Best part about the glock is they add the finger Grove. I have a gen3 19 I did buy a gen 5 but it did not feel right with out the finger Grove. Wish glock would offer them in gen 5.

There are some pretty awesome 3d printed designs for the G17L too such as Big Chungus, the Spaceman 17L, Biggus Dickus, and I think there's also a Robocop inspired design floating around as well.

The same reason it took them years to get slide cut and Optics. It's a 1980s gun that never changes with the times sadly. While others gun mans. are years ahead of Glocks. Lenny didn't make all that money from Glocks being up to date, he made it getting them up to date.

The underside of the slide has extensive lightening cuts where an optic screw would have like half of a thread to bite into.

For a 6 inch pistol its amazing lightweight and kind of compact for what it is. An optic would eliminate the benefit of the long side radious. I wounder why they dont sell the newer releases of the G17L with a gen 4 frame.

I feel like I get dirty looks at the range when people see my 17L with the slide milled with an RMR attached. I bought it brand new in 2017 and I have seen a few for sale since. I don't think they are as rare as Lenny says.

They aren't, always tons of them on Gunbroker brand new in box for under $700. A few people that think they have something special try charging over a grand for 'em, but even some of the custom shop ported and tuned versions still sell for less than that.

I believe the barrel length is 6 inches. That could bump a 125gr.+p to around 1300fps. The longer sight radius can't hurt either.

A Glock 35 is the same length as a Glock 34 (8.15"). It's not a 35 in 9mm... It's a 17 in 9mm, with a 6.02" barrel (8.86" slide), and is almost 3/4" longer than a 34 or 35.

Although their adjustable sights are good quality and minimalist I prefer not to not have adjustable sights. I can hit better with my regular G17 vs my 17L because the adjustable sights seem a little weird and off

The 34 is my favorite Glock. I found one of these in the used case at my local shop about 7 years ago. I really knew nothing about it other than I thought it was cool. Got it for a great deal durning the Trump slump and glad I picked it up.
