THE LONGEST DIVE

A historic record-breaking cave dive under the valley of Kingsdale from the downstream sump in King Pot to the Rising at Keld Head by veteran cave diver, Geoff Yeadon, and his regular diving partner Geoff Crossley.

With only the technology of the 70's, 80's, even 90's to do what these guys and other accomplished then is truly amazing. I just shake my head at the equipment/kit they had to work with (bungees, straps, early dry suits, old K valves, everything was homemade). The early cave divers in Mexico and Florida also. Thanks to those pioneers that put it all on the line, we stand on their shoulders.

They started cave diving in Yorkshire in the 1930s it was with parts of a bike set. And the man was the 1st to put down a safety line on his dives. Yorkshire has a lit of history with cave diving.

Absolutely. People die all the time doing this even with today's tech/equipment. I can't begin to imagine how difficult it must have been to accomplish something like this, that long ago. Those very 1st divers/cavers in 1952 only using "diving grease" to keep warm. That's crazy.

Aymene Megri I’m an advanced level 2 as well and I’ve been (amateur) cave diving for a while. Here in northwest Florida there are several caves at springs with easy access. Most of them aren’t very forgiving for rookies if you venture past the grim reaper sign it’s up to your skill, self control, and gear (mainly gear tbh, even if you do everything right and your rig shits the bed that’s all she wrote for you unless you have a little bailout bottle but even then there’s no guarantee) to get back to the surface again, I know my limits and have exceeded them on more than one occasion and I can tell you I’m lucky to be typing this comment. A few times I let the situation go completely out of my control, and it’s a scary feeling when that happens and you only realize it in the moment. Caves don’t care what your after dive plans are, if they want to keep you, bet your ass they will keep you. I’ve had a couple close calls and I can honestly tell you it happens a lot faster than you think. A perfect dive, tons of fun, and all the sudden some dick swims in behind you, silts up the cave and leaves. And you didn’t go in with a lifeline because, “oh we aren’t going in that far” and bam! “Oh fuck, I can’t see the exit”, then you look over at your dive buddy and his eyes are big as silver dollars. It can happen quick man. But yes it’s TONS of fun. BE CAREFUL. And know your limits and don’t exceed them. AND ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS use a lifeline. Silt is a fickle bitch. And ALWAYS three flashlights. Minimum. One is none, two is one, and three is better. And a decent dive knife. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to cut away a tangle in some random line somebody left, that shut is floating around a lot more than you would think and a good tangle can drown you FAST. OH and definitely take all this with a grain LARGE grain of salt, I’m a super rookie amateur man. I recommend the training. But remember this. 1. Know your limits 2. Always use a lifeline 3. Always minimum of three lights. 4. Always have a knife.

I heard a very experienced cave diver say, the people he wants in his cave diving club. 1st they must have been covers 1st then taken up diving, then cave diving. If it's the other way around and they not been in caves b4? Then shit can happen very fast and they panic, even the most experienced open water diver, and it's all in the word open water diver. And that came from one of the men that 1st started cave diving in the UK. They started with old bike parts to help them breath under water, well it did not help and he also was the one that started to use a safety line going into caves. I live in North Yorkshire right close too a lot of caves, I like pot holing myself, I learnt to scuba many years ago well over 25yrs now. But I would never cave dive..

When the divers went into the Thai cave to get the stuck football team,(D'oh!) They took valium to give to the boys to stop any anxiety and panic when coming out.. I would need several to go in!

I found it odd that there were fish swimming in the caves. At 27:50 you see 2 fish swim by the guy working his way through the "cobble" squeeze. I know that there are cave fish elsewhere, but did not think they would be in a tunnel type system. Very strange, what do they eat, as I can't believe there is much food around? But hey, what the hell do I know? Just a thought. : )
