This is such an epic scene, the highlight of the fellowship of the ring. Aragorn staring at certain death in the form of 200-300 enemies and still faces them with no fear, not only that, he crushes them at will at first killing 5 at the time. Legolas bow and arrow skills are unmatched, Boromir’s redemption. No fake trees with green screen behind to simulate a forest, but an actual one right next to a beautiful river. 1:39 - 2:19 is just masterful. We get a wide shot with Legolas perfectly placed to the left firing off arrows and Aragorn struggling with an Uruk in the middle. It's classically shot with no shaky cam and we get to see all the action. The light of the godrays also hit the set perfectly. Cue the horn blow and we get that amazing tracking shot covering the distance from them to the hobbits, and we see all of the uruks in their way. All of this conveys the mad struggle to get to Boromir and the chaos of battle. All of this is real and authentic, all shot on location with extras, no greenscreen CGI nonsense.

@@jarlwhiterun7478Shaky cam has its place, but it is a very small place used to convey chaos as part of a wider scene. 1:48 is a great detail. We see Legolas deliver many fatal blows to the Uruk-hai running around in no time at all killing about 5 of them but he takes a small pause before shooting the orc Aragorn is fighting with because he doesn't want to pierce through and hit his friend so he aims for a thicker place on the body/in the armour to keep his arrow in there and then fires. Aragorn. 86 years of age. 66 Years of hand to hand combat experience when an average human could potentially have fighting experience from 18-40 in hand to hand. This is still one of THE BEST fight scenes in cinema. It feels so real, because of the practical effects used in these beautiful movies. The Lord of the Rings is a masterpiece of lore in itself, and I think they did the best that they could have ever done. Each character is spot on, especially Aragorn, who's fight with Lurtz is maybe top spot for fight scenes. It was super real because Viggo ACTUALLY parried that huge knife that was mistakenly thrown directly at him, and it was one of the most badass things that's ever happened as far as scripted unscripted incidents that work out for the better. Viggo will go down in history as Aragorn. He took his role as serious as could be, as far as getting law enforcement called on him for walking around in public practice swinging his sword, in costume. @patricksquinlan12 жыл бұрын
It was likely the peak (and the last gasp) of the previous era. The movies were pitched around 1995, they funded and developed them in the late 1990s, and started shooting in 1999. The special effects were still old-school. The Hobbit movies (which were cynically made and look like crap) are actual 21st century movies. The 1990s were a drastically more optimistic time than the present.

I think it's useful to remember that, despite their amazing strength, the uruk-hais have ZERO training and experience of fighting. It might be different in the books, but from what we see in the films, they're born in the caves of Isengard and sent to battle right away. A confused group of unexperienced fighters can have a hard time against a seasoned warrior if he uses that confusion smartly. That's why Aragorn can take down Uruk hais so easily in spite of them being physically superior
