Heroes Reforged

Күн бұрын

This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness. Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.

Something to keep in mind is that Galadriel is older than 99% of the other Elves you're likely to see, save for one or two others. Elrond hasn't been to Valinor as he's relatively young at this time period (scarely 1100), and was born after the Noldor (High Elves) left Valinor to war with Morgoth. The High King of the Noldor, Gil-galad, is Galadriel's great nephew.

Worth noting that Amazon holds rights solely to content from LOTR and the Appendices-not anything in Simarillion, etc. Agustin's complaint about not seeing Ungoliant becoming bloated from the light of the Trees and nearly killing Morgoth is a good example.

@@AnotherScribbler Personally, my immediate reaction to Amazon's deal with the Tolkien estate was confusion. If they (the estate) were fine selling rights to make a show surrounding a time period mostly described in the Silmarillion, it would've made more sense (from a story standpoint) to give Amazon the ability to use more precise material. Case-by-case is so constraining and time-consuming.

Yeah, its absolutely awesome. I have a nitpick though -> I think they overuse Sauron 'theme' score a bit. I thought it would be exclusive to some intense scenes with Sauron schemes or something horrific happening, but it played already a lot in the show, sometimes in some mild scenes, like humans leaving their hometown and for me that music is too epic for some of these scenes, it takes me out a bit xD Like - scene intensity is 5/10, but score is 11/10 intense xD

I don't think Amazon has the rights over Silmarillion, so they are limited by what they will show in the flashbacks, if any. That said, the showmakers did really well with the material available to them. Excellent episode overall! The suspense hook at the end was masterful.

My understanding is that they only have the rights to LotR (i.e. the Appendices for the 2nd Age material) and can negotiate with the Tolkien Estate for any specific additional material/references, but large chunks of Silmarillion and/or Unfinished Tales aren’t available.
@brendonmccluskey665
@brendonmccluskey665 2 жыл бұрын
@@GymQuirk You're mostly right. Sorry don't want to sound haughty or mean. Amazon has the rights to the appendices but have to follow with the already canon story line written by Tolkien. The estate has absolutely said that they cannot touch the events that happened in the Silmarillion, the Hobbit, LOTR or any of the full-on published works except for flashback purposes. The appendices are just a mass collection of notes from Tolkien and organized by his son to set the timeline between the books as well as a lot of major events. Sorry for the long explanation, I'm a bit of a lore junkie.

My favorite part of all the toxic gatekeeping is people mad about the black dwarves. The Dwarves were created by Aule, who was described as having "red brown skin" from stone. Their skin complexion is labeled as "unknown", only that they were less varied than the ones from men. If they truly wanted to be "Accurate" to the lore, then all dwarves should be black. Or are we to believe the red brown skinned "god" created white people from those dark stones? THAT would be very decidedly on the nose about the white superiority to have the "black god" create white people from dark rocks... (Aulë’s 7’ tall fana was stout and strong. His long, braided hair, black beard, and red-brown skin gave him the image of a large (7’ tall) Dwarf. Indeed, his children resembled their father) is literally the description of him in the "Lord of the Rings Compendium" that's authorized and states that does not conflict with canon. So where were all these people complaining about the black elf when the first movies came out and suddenly all the dwarves were white? Really shows exactly what they really mean that people ignore this, but focus on that.

This takes place in a different age and the people (mostly) and places that we are cumulative with don’t exist yet so even though I’m a huge fan, I found it incredibly helpful in organizing the places and people with the breakdown and set up that this episode gave us.

The ancestors of the hobbits were indeed around at this time. According to the prologue of the Fellowship of the Ring: "The beginning of Hobbits lies far back in the Elder Days that are now lost and forgotten. Only the elves still preserve any records of that vanished time, and their traditions are concerned almost entirely with their own history, in which Men appear seldom and Hobbits are not mentioned at all. Yet it is clear that Hobbits had, in fact, lived quietly in Middle-Earth for many long years before other folk became even aware of them." - Fellowship of the Ring Prologue

Love you guys, and love that there's a positive platform for media consumption out here right now. It's a tough time to just... enjoy things? and you three are all about that, which is awesome. Cheers Oh and about Elrond: he was born in Beleriand (in Middle-Earth) late in the 1st Age, and he had never been to Valinor. He was also half-elven, but chose the immortal life of the Elves. His brother, Elros, chose the mortal life of men and became the 1st king of Numenor!

For me a decent work for little sourced material script. If you don't like the series , be sure you will love serie's soundtrack . Bear McCreary's compositions are fantastic and epic!

I heard on Nerd of the Rings channel that Amazon is limited by rights restrictions to use story points from The Silmarillion, so omitting Ungoliant, the Valar, and Beleriand are have a lot to do with those rights restrictions.

To clarify some things Agustín said: 1) They don't have the rights to the Silmarillion, so they can't talk about Ungoliant. However, they could have talked about Feanor and the Silmarils, but they did omit it in the prologue to make it more concentrated in the main plot. 2) Tolkien never said Hobbits started existing in the Third Age. What he said is that the Dunedain met them in the Third Age and the Elves had no record of them. But even within the Legendarium it is speculated they may have been a branch of Men that existed mostly as long as they have. So this idea that "they don't exist" in this time period is complete bollocks.

I've watched a couple of other reviews and there is so much hate for this show, reading people's reviews is about the same. I'm a die-hard JRRT fan, been reading them since I was 14 (am 43 now) and though I understand the show took a lot of 'license,' according to some of the experts, with the show, changing things up a bit adding characters here and there, I am watching this from the point of view as an 'alternate universe' of Tolkiens world, kind of like how the MCU has many alternate universes, with completely different story lines of the same characters and so far... I CAN'T WAIT FOR EPISODE #3! Came in with low expectations, but much like the great author Neil Gaiman said after he watched the pre-screening, I am impressed and looking forward to where the story goes. I really don't care what color skin the characters have, even knowing that JRRT wrote his stories based on Anglo-Saxon and Norse myths, he created a world that we should all be able to enjoy. I am so glad I found a group that also appreciates this new show.

As somebody who doesn't know much apart from watching the Trilogy, I enjoyed it more than I thought. I think releasing it now is a good decision with shows like House of the Dragon getting a positive response and even Ms Marvel and She Hulk.

The reason for the absence of more details about the origins/stuff happening in Valinor/war with Morgoth is that Amazon doesnt have the rights for the First Age. And yes it's stupid from the Tolkien estate to give rights the second age but not the first. So no we won't see more things from the past in the show.

visually STUNNING. don't feel a real connection yet to the story or any of the characters at this point in the first two episodes but curious to see what the rest of the season has to offer. I'm hopeful

While i have my own issues with the show, that's pretty much anything. I think the people that are hating on this show are just taking it too seriously. People need to learn to enjoy stuff, but they watch it with the presupposition that it's gonna be bad, so their minds automatically look for any possible issues and they focus on that instead of taking it in as a whole.
