they are really forcing the girl boss in this one. It would have been awesome to see if it actually focused on Helm and his sons and their achievements in the war. And the eventual rescue effort by his nephew Feralaf. Them giving his role to Hera really eats me because he was made king due to his heroism and his descendant was Theoden so thats just major bummer.

This film was made for no one

Don't think it was a girl boss thing. This studio and the writing weren't all about that, the story just so happened to want to tell it from the direction. The issue was most likely, the IP,... Lord of the Rings has many restrictions on what the writers are allowed to do, who they can use, and even the names and soundtrack are restricted. The creatives were hamstrung from the start to the end. I'd say girl-boss would be an error if the creatives had everything they needed to succeed and still failed, but they just were so buried and constrained. I mean, I have no idea why you would let someone do Lord of the Rings, but not let them do anything original with it. It's like saying here bro you can do the X-Men, but you can only use characters for a specific moment in time and only if it's a Tuesday! Have fun! lol Compare that to a series like Arcane, where they're like, _"No restrictions, have fun!"_ then *Boom* you get to a create story and if that failed there would be no excuses.

Hera is no more a girlboss than Eowyn. And the movie is effectively about Helm, just told through the eyes of his daughter.

A film that simply exists to get another piece of the Lord of the Rings pie and to be allowed to keep the film rights to the Middle Earth franchise. Incredibly boring and offers nothing other than a generic anime story and the typical narrative patterns of these stories. When night falls, and all is seemingly tranquil, Lord Freca (Shaun Dooley) and his son Wulf (Luca Pasqualino) arrive at the House of Helm Hammerhand (Brian Cox) to challenge a marriage proposal to Héra Serviceable effort to bring Peter Jackson's take on Middle-earth into animation. It actually looks pretty good (even old-school at times) for the most part despite not fully escaping half-baked 3D elements. It perfectly fits in with what has come before, The script definitely needed more work though. There's a good tale in there with some damn fine highs, but the pacing is all over the place and the main players are either underwritten or repeatedly go stupid because the writers couldn't think of better ways to move the story forward

I’ve been looking forward to this movie since they announced it. As we have learned from Ring of Power, we cannot have a fun story within Middle Earth. Instead, producers believe we have to make films for “modern audiences” that sacrifice story and character development for diversity.

With the current rights situation, I don't think that New Line/Warner Bros. would be able to produce a miniseries for television or streaming. I'm pretty sure that Amazon has that wrapped up.

That's too bad. It's really aggravating when they do these stories but the creatives have to be so restricted. Especially, if you're coloring outside the lines and doing something different or unexpected with the franchise. I feel that this would be the perfect opportunity to loosen up the constrictions so that the creatives could _cook_ with more materials at their disposal. You can kind of tell when the writing is passionate versus, just coloring within the lines. Oh well. Poo 😢

I marked my calendar to not miss this film until the writers determined they knew better than Tolkien. Fans keep trying to tell Hollywood to stop reimagining the source material over and over again. It’s truly disheartening to see both anime and the Lord of the Rings being tarnished by an obsession with agenda-driven films. Hera appears to be nothing more than a tool to push a message that the writers believe Tolkien overlooked. Fans, do yourselves a favor and avoid wasting time on this narrative. Instead, immerse yourselves in *Frieren: Beyond Journey's End*, a more authentic experience that captures the essence of Tolkien's works. This anime not only excels in animation quality to this film, but it also embodies the true values of life that Tolkien emphasized throughout the Lord of the Rings series. Here’s the kicker: the main character is a female elf sorceress. Follow this genuinely imperfect and strong female character as she navigates epic magic battles and dungeons filled with peril. Most importantly, like Tolkien’s stories, the series takes you on a journey with characters as they explore what it truly means to be alive, the meaning of time, and highlighting that every moment counts.

I really liked the movie. It's so much better than RoP. This captures the Middle Earth spirit in full for me. Helm is a total BA and Hera was a cool character and much more feminine than Guyladriel. I feel like the daughter of freaking Helm Hammerhand would at least be a bit of a menace. Fighting scenes were cool, story was compelling and the visuals were pretty good. Overall solid 7,5/10 for an adaptation

Just got out of the theater, and I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised. So long as you don't go in expecting it to be as good as the original trilogy, it's quite enjoyable. I really wish the animation style was closer to what was initially teased, questionable cameos by the watcher in the water and the white wizard, but beyond that good job. Comparison to other middle earth projects... Lotr original trilogy: 10 out of 10 Hobbit: 7 out of 10 Rings of power: go f*** yourself if you put it over 2 out of 10 WOTR: 8 out of 10. Not without it's flaws, but very enjoyable.
