A lot of people reacting to the T-Rexes at the trailer have asked “Why didn’t the baby tell them the humans fixed its leg?”. Well, the thing is, the baby didn’t understand that itself. It didn’t understand that these particular humans were actually trying to heal its injury. All it understood was the pain, so it cried, and there’s nothing like the cry of a baby to bring parents rushing to the scene.

To this day I think they may explain it in the books better, but I still don't know how the hell the T-Rex gets out kills everyone in that tiny cabin, then gets back in and then trapped. I think in the books they say it was pteranodons, but then it just happened to work out perfectly that the boat steered from the islands all the way to San Diego

This movie isn't very creative storywise, but from a technical perspective -- photography, setup, visual FX, editing, music, creating tension etc. -- it's absolutely brilliant. Spielberg knew he couldn't top the impact of the first one, that the second would be 'just' a thrill ride, but he really pulled out all stops to create one of greatest thrill rides ever. It's one of the most expertly executed movies ever, despite the weak, umm, intellectual affect, compared to the first. Even the music score is better than the first. The first movie, of course, gave us those fantastic themes, but the meat and bones background action sequences are not that unique. There are a couple of cues that are almost identical to older Williams pieces (from Jaws, Indy, and Star Wars, particularly Empire). But the music for the second one is really one of Williams' best. Williams is a great emotion amplifier; he does his best work when there's lot of emotional tension already in the movie, and this one gave him plenty to work with. (Reversely, he does his worst work when the movie doesn't have emotion to begin with. That's where Jerry Goldsmith shines; he could create emotion where there's none. Reversely, if there's already a lot of emotion, Jerry tended to tone the music down, while John turned it UP. I would have liked to see more of them working together; actually, they never really worked together at composing. John was musician [pianist] on some of Jerry's early scores in the 1960s, that's all.)(Funnily enough, IMDb lists both Jerry and John here on Lost World, but only because Jerry had written the Universal logo music. If memory serves, it was the first movie that featured the new Universal logo with Jerry's fanfare.)

As an Amateur Paleontologist who studied Rexes in College, they are surprisingly stealthy, which you wouldn’t expect from a 7+ ton animal. But in comparison to other predators, their toes are spaced quite wide apart when they reach adulthood, leaving a lot of room for muscles and padding. Both to support their weight, and to quiet their steps for ambushing (think Big Cats). (Rex’s top speed is highly debated right now, but it’s clear they were very much both predators and opportunists, so ambushes were likely its best hunting method).

I'm sorry, but if a Tyrannosaurus rex (or any predator) stuck its head in my tent while I was asleep, I'd be pissing/shitting myself. I also feel so bad when Eddie gets Lady & The Tramped by the male and female Tyrannosaurs. SIDE NOTES: 1. There are 3 popular theories on what the dorsal plates of the Stegosaurus were used for: A.) Warding off any potential predators B.) Interspecies recognition C.) Regulation of body temperature 2.) Earlier paleontologists thought that the dorsal plates of the Stegosaurus were for defense, but now it's thought that the tail spikes (also called thagomizers) served that purpose *3.) It was thought that the Stegosaurus' brain was more or less the size of a walnut, but now the theory is that their brains were roughly the size of a lime.* 4. Like all other Hadrosaurs, scientists believe that the Parasaurolophus (the dinosaur that Roland called Elvis) could use their crests to make hooting noises to call each other.
@rhysjarrand5112
@rhysjarrand5112 2 күн бұрын
The main theory now for the stegosaur plates is that they served as a display for mating. It is believed that the plates were covered in a layer of colourful flesh which would serve much the same function as colourful feathers on a bird. Though wouldn't doubt they may have also served some thermo-regulatory purpose.

I noticed some people don't realize it, but the rifle (fictional Lindstradt Air Rifle) Eddie had isn't the same rifle used by Roland to shoot the Rex. First he goes to use his Elephant Gun, but Nick had replaced the rounds, forcing him to instead get out an air rifle to tranq dart the Rex. Had Roland got to fire the Elephant Gun, it may well have taken the Rex down. His specifically is a double rifle, meaning it can fire two rounds either at the same time or one after the other, and they aren't intended for long range accuracy but more so stopping power and a second quick shot if its needed to take the game down. As an experienced big game hunter, Roland likely would have had extra rounds and been quick enough to use them. If so, the reason he doesn't can be theorized to be the same reason he couldn't fire the gun at all..Nick swiped the rounds.

The next one is Jurassic Park 3. It's pretty widely regarded as not as good as this one. That being said, as long as you go into it just wanting to see some cool dinosaurs and action scenes, and aren't expecting a cinematic masterpiece like the 1st, it's fun and enjoyable. After that is the Jurassic World reboot. Those 3 films take the same trajectory as these 3. 1st one is great, 2nd is fun, 3rd, well it's got lots of cool dinosaurs and some fun action scenes.

13:34 The camera isn't malfunctioning. That's an old-fashioned film camera with auto-rewind. What you said about the T-Rex is correct- there's no evidence to support the theory that a T-Rex wouldn't be able to see you if you don't move so, if you ever come across a T-Rex, run! 14:00 The Stego wouldn't have been able to twist his tail 180 degrees like that to send a spike downward through the log. Sarah Harding is supposed to be the daughter of Dr. Harding, who treated the Triceratops in the first movie. Spielberg saw Julianne Moore's small part in The Fugitive and was impress enough to ask her to audition for the role of Ellie in Jurassic Park. She didn't get that role, but was cast as Sarah in this film. The character of the paleontologist, Robert Burke, was a nod to real life paleontologist Robert Bakker. Bakker's professional rival, Jack Horner, was a consultant on the JP films, and a proponent of the theory that T-Rex were scavengers, not hunters. Spielberg wrote in Burke's death scene, reportedly as a favor to Horner. When Bakker saw the scene, he said he liked it because it portrayed the T-Rex as a hunter.

The leg of the infant rex was broken by Peter Ludlow, the rich guy with glasses. In a deleted scene, Roland Tembo and Ajay, the hunters, had caught the baby rex and had it tied on the ground. When Peter Ludlow cam along, partially drunk and celebrating their success, stumbled and fell on the baby, breaking its leg. The whole ending was a rewrite as they wanted to top the ending of the first movie. That's why it doesn't really make sense. What ate the crew? If they were eat at sea, then the ship never would've made it into port. If they were eaten before making port than the dinosaur that did it would be on the ship and probably found as people explored it. Also, the guy who got eaten by the Rex as he try to get into a shop was David Koepp, a screen writer for the film. And he requested to be eaten by the rex in the film. It seems you two were confused by the dart guns. The air-rifle that Eddie Carr had, the guy the Rexes ate, was loaded with a deadly neurotoxin. A shot from that would have killed the Bull Rex. That gun was lost when his vehicle went over the cliff with the RV. However, the air-rifle which Rolando Tembo, the game hunter, was forced to use after Nick (Vince Vaughen) sabotaged his ammunition, was loaded with a sedative. That is why the Rex was able to feel the dart and then approach him as he reloaded with a second shot.

It's still a fantastic film, I watched it twice in the cinema back in the day but I read an earlier script by David Koepp that just had a bit more grounded feel at the end. In the final part the village is bigger, including a watertower where Kelly gets rid of the raptor but not in such a cartoony way. The people get chased by raptors on the village's rooftops but suddenly they stop cause the interior is now inhabited by the Pteranodons. Kelly also falls in one of the Pteranodons nests breaking the eggs. That's why the Pteranodon was used in the last shot cause the whole team begged Steven Spielberg to keep the scene instead of the new ending in San Diego... sadly it didn't work out. The script ended with Ian Malcolm and Kelly attending John Hammonds funeral where they meet Lex and Tim. I think the first film has the advantage of having the characters in a relatively safe place for the first half so there are more engaging moments. Here the characters are thrown into a very serious situation basically from the start. Even the first herbivore scene turns dangerous while in the first film it was just a magical moment.

The compies, the green ones that swarm their prey, are actually venomous containing a potent neurological toxin that is disorienting and causes hallucinations and extreme drowsiness for the victims. The mercenary, Dieter Stark, is bitten numerous times giving him a large amount of the venomous solution. The compies, much like the Komodo dragon, stalk behind the invenomated prey before delivering the fatal attack once severely injured and sufficiently weakened. Thus Stark was devoured alive after an extreme overdose of Compsognathus/Procompsognathus venom causing horrific hallucinations and confused disorientation.

Honestly, Dieter likely could have survived had Carter heard him. But unfortunately he didn't and Dieter was left lost, scared, and without help coming, the compies had time to drive Dieter further down the stream valley, away from assistance and into a kill zone which was sheltered where they could devour the helpless man alive.

I feel like one thing the movie did better than the book is Dr. Ian Malcolm’s motivation for going back to the islands. In the book for some reason he goes back to this monster island in order to save an obnoxiously annoying trust fund kid, and to see if his mathematical theories played out. While I was reading it just never seemed plausible that either of those would get him to go back to a place he barely survived. In the movie it’s because a woman he’s in love with went there and he fears for her safety. I was immediately bought in.

You’ll notice in this film, the filmmakers took the time to add a little sexual dimorphism between the male and female T-Rex, who are officially known as Buck and Doe, respectively. There is debate going on over whether T-Rex was sexually dimorphic (at one point it was thought females were larger than males, but now that belief isn’t considered gospel anymore). But the film has gone with the basic concept of making the male more brightly/vibrantly colored than the female. Buck’s colors are a mix of greens and blacks, whereas Doe is a solid dark brown.

In the past, instead of Jurassic Parks there were zoos and safaris, and a few movies re that genre. For example "Mogambo" (1953, directed by John Ford, with Ava Gardner, Clark Gable and Grace Kelly). But if you watch "Hatari!" (1962, directed by Howard Hawks, with John Wayne in it), you will notice how similar some scenes are in "The Lost World". The difference is that in "Hatari!" they are real.

The sound of the Tyrannosaurus rex is one of the great mysteries of paleontology, as vocal cords and other soft tissues rarely fossilize. However, using comparative anatomy, modern acoustics, and recent fossil discoveries, scientists have theorized how the king of the dinosaurs may have sounded. Rather than the high-pitched, roaring beast from classic movies, many paleontologists believe that T. rex likely produced deep, guttural, infrasound-like vocalizations-more akin to the sounds of large birds, crocodiles, and even elephants rather than a mammalian lion or tiger. Instead of an open-mouthed roar, its calls may have been low-frequency rumbles that could travel great distances, like the infrasonic communication of elephants or cassowaries. Some scientists suggest that a T. rex might have “felt” more than “heard” another T. rex’s calls through vibrations in the ground. The sound of the T. rex will never be known with absolute certainty. To me if that is even close to the truth, that is even more terrifying. Imagine feeling the vibrations of the call instead of necessarily hearing it and it was possibly vibrating so much that it got more intense the closer it got to you and before you knew it, it was on you.

52:00 Michael Crichton had not intended to write a sequel book to the first Jurassic Park. In fact, both Hammond and Malcom were killed in the first novel. [Hammond was a much more evil and miserly character in the original novel.] But after the first film was such a hit, Spielberg convinced Crichton to write a sequel novel telling him the studio was going to make a second film whether he was involved or not and he should try and maintain his own vision. The book was released when the second film went into production and the film came out roughly a year later. One of the first things the second book addressed was Malcom's survival. The character, as played by Jeff Goldblum, was so popular in the first film he had to be written back into the story so he could appear in the sequel film. This was addressed early in the book by Malcom stating, "Rumors of my death were greatly exaggerated." The title comes from "The Lost World," a 1912 novel written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (creator of Sherlock Holmes) which had a very similar plot to the Jurassic Park sequel - an expedition to a plateau in the Amazon basin of South America where prehistoric animals never become extinct and their fight to survive and escape. Conan Doyle's book has been adapted to film at least five times over the last century. The plot of Crichton's sequel novel was adapted into the first two acts of this film, with Malcom arriving on the island to rescue his girlfriend and the attack by the Rex's (though the novel was much more detailed in description). What had originally been envisioned as a possible Jurassic Park 3 - the dinosaurs getting loose in an American city - was then added as the third act as Spielberg felt the film would be too similar to the original film if they did not add the later rampage through the city. The novel ends at the point the survivors are rescued from Site B by helicopter. The remaining films in the Jurassic Park/World franchise are not based on any Michael Crichton novels - though scenes from the two books that did not make it into the first two film adaptations do appear.

Re "The novel": To make the first movie they cut lots out from the book. Then when they made this, they chopped it all up yet again. The opening to this film is actual the opening to the first book (should have been in the first film). The Procompsognathus (little dinos) are also from the first book. Spoiler alert, the guy who is killed by the Compys, here? That is actually based on the storyline of Hammond's death in the first book. As Hammond died in the first book, he isn't in this book (The Lost World) at all. But it gets worse of you are a fan of the books. Which I read long before the movie was planned. Because they added lots from the first book into the second movie. They cut lots of the second book out of the second movie. Crichton didn't write a third Jurassic Park novel. So to scrape more cash out of the franchise, the third movie, is just the dregs from the first and second book, which didn't make the first two movies. Cobbled together to make a semi lucid storyline. The books are great. The movies are a pale shadow of them.

Nowhere near as good as the original .. but I have a ton of nostalgia from growing up with the Lost World

Best to worst 1,4,3,2,6,5. One and four are pretty close to greatness.. There's actually a 7th coming.. Scarlett johansson I believe is supposed to be in it..

I think 5 and 6 are backwards in your list. #6 could have been the exact same movie without dinosaurs even being in it.

There is a Jurassic Park 3. Kinda but not really spoiler alert!! Jurassic Park 3 is pretty much the undisputed worst in the series. That's including the so far three Jurassic World movies. Yes, some people love it. But they're definitely the minority!

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom has more hate than that of Jurassic Park 3.

I wouldn't say I love it, but the 'World' movies are not my thing. Logic is completely gone and the screaming - all the constant screaming . . . .

There's no denying that the CG in the Jurassic World movies is crap. But story-wise, I still say JP3 is the worst... so far. Take away one... technically two characters. Could it still be called Jurassic Park?

I didn't care for any of the sequels. They just never caught that same magic as the first one. But i do love me some Jeff Goldblum. Speaking of, you guys really need to react to his movie The Fly is you've never seen it before! 🪰
