I have one of these, love it. By the way you don't need to wait 20 minutes total to cook. It's literally hot and up to temp in 4-5 minutes. Once you've confirmed it's lit put the grate on and wait another 2-3 minutes. Especially if you use it at full blast you'll have wasted half your charcoal if you're waiting too long. FYI hand sanitizer works 100% as well as the expensive fluid they pack in the box. I have a keychain bottle of Purell I just refill at work from plain unscented hand sanitizer and use that as a starter. It's literally the same - a gelling agent and ethanol.

Is the Teflon sheet generic or specifically cut for the Lotus grill. Do you have a link?

That's a neat BBQ, thanks.

Does the Teflon allow you still get the charcoal flavour, I can't see how, might as well have a fire...

I have a Cobb grill which is very similar and love it too.These portable grills pay for themselves very quickly with the savings from using so little charcoal.The only grill I would maybe trade my Cobb for would be a Lotus.I am a Canaler also and love you boat.A grill and a canal boat. Can I come live with ya'll?

Good idea to use the Teflon sheet to prevent the meat burning. Not just that Teflon is proven to be healthy, you did not burn the meat at all. 5:56

does the teflon has a temperature threshold? Teflon pans cannot be overheated for safety reasons.

That particular teflon sheet was specifically designed for BBQ use so one would hope it's safe! Sorry I can't tell you more than that but we have had no issues at all.

Have you actually tried it? Don't knock it until you have tried it the saying goes. Works for us and helps the meat cook in it's own juices instead of getting dry and burnt.

Teflon is a bad idea & probably toxic. The whole point is to get the flavour of that lovely beech wood. In addition there is no need to light with chemical gels. I discovered a nice little trick - take half a sheet of kitchen towel, soak it in rapeseed cooking oil and it will burn like a candle; tasteless and pretty well smokeless. Just do the washing up man.

It's certainly not toxic, it's specifically for BBQ's of this type and allows the meat to cook in it's own juices rather than burning to a cinder. Works for us thanks and tastes amazing and retains moistness. I'll have a go at the kitchen towel tip though thanks.

Great video, I've been pondering if I should buy one of these lotus grills for ages. Still not convinced to pull the trigger. That said the Teflon thing was abit questionable, the government back in the 30s would teach children rhymes such as "ddt is good for me" only to find out decades later ddt is highly cancerous.

The teflon sheets are fine and widely available so can't see a problem with that and they certainly keep the meat moist and the mess to a minimum. Of course they are not required at all and you can cook straight on the standard plate. Would really not be without our Lotus Grill now, we love it!

They look burnt, better off without the Teflon sheet.. also not very healthy due to the chemicals it gives off..
@paulp63864 жыл бұрын
The teflon sheet negates the bbq flavour. Why bother? Just use an electric grill.

Not in our experience to be honest with you. Stays moist and tasty and still sets itself on fire!
