Thank you for the wonderful things you do preserving or sharing old cemetery plots once forgotten. I viewed your video about a cemetery you found an old cemetery which was washed out during nature's elements. I looked up the name of one you shared with the picture. The cemetery name is Shippy Cemeteries with the Double Church's. Located on Find A Grave. There are about 122 lots possibly in the cemetery according to Find A Grave. Much appreciation for what you do... Have a blessed day. You need a leaf blower and a portable power washer 🙂

Love those old cemetery’s. It always breaks my heart to see them abandoned after all the family that cared has passed away as well. There’s some around where I’m from that haven’t had people there in so long that their “lost” and sometimes have a gate to keep people out. I always wanted to go and clean them and place flowers😞
@p.mckenzie29213 жыл бұрын
I asked a city worker that was cutting grass out by and overgrown cemetery if he needed some help cleaning around the gravestones. He said that would be wonderful because he’s the only person for a whole city that does 192 cemeteries. So me and for other senior ladies age 55 to 83 go every other weekend during good weather a clip around in get the weeds around the tombstone. So I bet your city wouldn’t mind if you help clean up around the tombstone it’ll be very nice. And I get to get out and get some exercise and it helps with my asthma to get fresh air. I hope you have a good day and I hope maybe you find a nice cemetery that you could clean up a little I know it would be appreciated.
@meticulous_pickulous303 жыл бұрын
@@p.mckenzie2921 that is a wonderful thing for y’all to do!💙 unfortunately I don’t live in the city I live out in the country and no one cleans these cemetery’s except for family and/or if it is still an “active” cemetery like attached to a church yard the church may keep it cleaned up. Most of the ones around here are by themselves off (way off) a road and are hidden away beneath decades of growing grass and brush. Once a cemetery gets completed abandoned and no one is being buried there and no flowers get put out it’s just left to be forgotten and then usually a gate is put up to keep people out. It’s really sad. I used to go and take pictures and read the stones like these gentlemen do but it’s getting harder to get to them.

@@meticulous_pickulous30 The sad thing about the cemeteries in my area in the country were mostly paid lean up by the church paid 2 guy s. Now a bigger 1/2 Jewish &1/2 Catholic has recently been sold from the Catholic Church to a private company & within 2 months the grass wasn’t getting cut because they had fired half the grounds staff. The new company expected the staff left to work twice as much for the same pay check, which they gave it their best but it’s plain impossible the place is monsterous… So hopefully they bring back a few some are already retired & gone south for sure. Sad because my in-laws chose that crematory because they met as children out a big outing for Catholic kids in the field next over from they lay now ,my dear sweet mother in-law who I held in my arms for her last breath 88 &my father in law the same 92, I think they had it planned for when their son was out & all their kids were tucked in for the night. They thought I was strong enough to call everyone in the morning. I wasn’t ,I called all 7 of them ,my husband came then 1 sister and after may more calls one more sister. This was two separate natural old age deaths at their own home me and two private nurses along with one daughter a working nurse who stopped in once a week to check in .

@@p.mckenzie2921 My grandmother and aunts back in Ohio were all in the ladies auxiliary of the Odd Fellows and that's what they did in their town. There were only 2 large cemeteries (plus a few older church yard cemeteries) and they would go out at least once a month and clean up any trash or litter and set out miniature decorations (seasonal flowers and flags and such) when called for. The gentlemen would do the hard work of removing fallen tree limbs, mowing the lawns, and even uprighting fallen or tipping stones. There was never any official person in charge of such things. People were always willing to volunteer their time for it.

It was crazy being surrounded by the graves of people I was descended from and wasn’t even aware of four years ago! I saw some very old graves, many of the people were among “The Great Migration”. Fortunately in Massachusetts, our Ancient Cemeteries are well known and maintained as much as possible. (They are very old, after all) a few have memorials for markers that are long gone. When I go back next, I’ll have to bring a better flashlight, mine was too weak! 🙄

There's one cemetery that I have been to, in Gloucester County, NJ, which has a railroad passing behind it. To get to the cemetery you have to park in front of the church and then walk through the side yard and the very big back yard, cross the railroad tracks and a private driveway, walk over some grass, and into a grove of trees. That grove of trees is the cemetery, which is about 500 feet back from the road. That slab you were trying to read at 6:29 - It says "dau.of". Also the death date is 1865. At 9:28 that birth date is Oct. 10th.
