I have put together several ebikes from motor kits on old bicycles. After seeing this, I would only ever want one of these bikes vs what I see elsewhere. Being able to see the welds and the drive gears was so insightful. The battery system sounds great. Being able to switch from ebike to e-moto would help for places where bike trail gives way to highway.

@@j.m.5995 You missed something. The US government has been working to bring manufacturing back to the US. And, remember, the reason manufacturing left the US was because people wanted to buy cheap stuff. No manufacturer wanted to close down a US factory and have to work with a manufacturer they didn't own which was a very long plane ride away and with whom they didn't share a language.

Not sure if you got the point of his statement. He is saying he didn't want to just pick American manufacturing to virtue signal to the flag waving crowd.... he is saying he wanted to use American manufacturing for what it is good for, keeping in mind that the tooling and know-how is no longer here. And that's not something that is easily fixed. We are talking about 150 years of good American steel that was boxed up and shipped to China. We are talking about 100 years of solid American machine tools that were shipped to China. We are talking about industrial districts filled with buildings purpose-built for manufacturing with cranes and cargo bays and train tracks rezoned as residential and converted into condos. And we are talking about a gap of over 40 years where the know-how has been allowed to get old and die out. It will take a whole heck of alot more than some flag waving and wishful thinking to rebuild what NeoLiberalism destroyed in this country.
@bobwallace9753
@bobwallace9753 2 ай бұрын
@@patreekotime4578 Don't try to blame some sort of liberalism for the loss of American manufacturing. It happened because Americans wanted cheaper stuff and China could build stuff cheaper. It was market forces. Nothing else. Now, have we lost the ability to manufacture state of the art stuff in the US? Look at Tesla. World class, innovative manufacturing via an American startup. Tesla is doing stuff that the Chinese are copying. Or look at SpaceX. No other company or country has been able to land and quickly refly rockets. More American ingenuity and quality manufacturing.

Their design team consists of Erik Buell and other veteran Buell and Harley engineers. They are implementing a lot of innovative designs to bring down manufacturing cost and weight to keep it below $13,000 and 400lbs despite having a larger 10kWh battery; including a magnesium housing, a structural battery pack, lights integrated directly into the frame, and a inhub axial-flux motor. It has more storage capacity than a typical scooter but the low end acceleration of a 600-750cc sport bike.

Smaller motorcycles used to be far more common in the US. 125-250cc are perfectly acceptable for riding around town and brief stints on the highway. After the 80's larger sport bikes and big Harley Cruisers took off and are more for performance/show or long touring on highways than real daily use. I see so many old Harley riders tip their motorcycles in the parking lot and need a 2nd person just to get it back up. No young rider is going to be able to throw $20,000+ on 400lb+ motorcycle, only old Boomers, so Harley's customers are literally dying off. Motorcycle sales have been on decline in US partly because younger riders aren't learning to ride, but a lot of those would be riders have e-bikes. Electric motorcycles should be a good transition for e-bike owners needing more speed when zipping around town, but so many electric motorcycle companies and OEMs are trying to build electric motorcycles to compete with larger sport bikes, naked bikes, and dual-sport or offroad bikes. That is a terrible idea because the range and top speed of electric bikes is terrible and they are too heavy and expensive to compete with better ICE bikes in that category. Building smaller, urban commuting, electric motorcycles that appeal to e-bike riders makes way more sense. In the low end they can accelerate better than a sport bike, but have the convience, low maintenance, and approachability of a small scooter. Having swappable batteries and good storage options make them great daily riders when the weather is nice.

That 120 mile range is on the motorcycle test standard which is no where near equivalent to the testing standards for automobiles. So looking them up, the Scrambler with on board charging and 5.7 kWh usable (largest battery) cost about $9400 and real world range at 55mph is just 34.6 miles claimed - as in they state that at 55 miles per hour you get 34 miles of range. At 70 you get 23. That 120 miles of range, at 22mph.

@@andromedach Does this thing look like a Gullwing? It's for off roading, commuting, or zipping around town. Since it's charged every time you come home, there's no need for more range than that. Heck, it's probably excessive for most of the use cases, which is why they offer a smaller battery configuration. And for off-roading, it'll likely just be loaded up into a truck or trailer just like off-road ICE bikes usually are. Looks like great fun.

You can also buy a factory option for onboard charging if you prefer. I have a Volcon dirt bike that has removable batteries. It's interesting to see how scaling is done. However welding tables and fixtures have been used since forever, "software defined hardware" is done by any electric bicycle, no matter how cheap, IoT battery is a bit cringe as well. The prices aren't excessive.

I know Vespa and later mopeds were just a blip on the US market, but I keep thinking this is the new Vespa replacement. Cheap simple reliable local fun.

However e- UTV (4 wheelers) dont need battery swap , just need DC fast charging and LFP cells. e- Motorbikes also should be LFP as well.

The motorcycle is looking pretty good. But when I hear words like "smart IoT platform" I immediately think of planned obsolescence. Battery should have 100% functionality without the need for any external things like mobile phone or internet (cloud), etc. Yes, some amount of "smarts" could be used for monitoring, logging, etc. and could improve experience, but most of the time it is used to limit what customer can do with the device they've bought. We have too many examples of this already.

Rest assured, our batteries are 100% functional with or without any external device and always will be.

Thanks for the video. In the market for an electric motorcycle. Choices in the US are so limited. Would like to support domestic manufacturers but this LAND District Street looks like a souped-up version of the junk that my local Tractor Supply carries. The CSC RX1E (been around for years) is comparable in specs but looks better. Is there something that looks like a proper street motorcycle made in the US that isn't a $21K Zero SR/S? The LAND District has the specs I want but not the looks.

I think Sandy was referring to some of the English bikes he referenced (BSA, Triumph) where the gear change is 1-up, 3 or 4-down. To make it even more different, the change foot lever was on the right side, in the same position that the rear brake pedal is on bikes now..🤔

interesting insight on manufacturing woes as a small company. The tubular frame is old idea, cringey. They should take a clue from Tesla Cybertruck design.
