Railroading Rambler

After an a hiatus of approximately 6 years, Revere Copper, founded by Revolutionary War hero Paul Revere and headquartered in Rome NY (the "Copper City"), is once again receiving shipments by rail.
It's the late morning of Feb 21, 2022. A Mohawk, Adirondack & Northern freight waits to access the CSX main in Utica NY to exercise trackage rights to Rome, approximately 15 miles west of the road's Utica yard. Before getting on CSX Track No. 1, however, the MA&N train (symbol Z343) must wait for a westbound mixed freight to pass. Before the CSX freight enters onto the scene, an eastbound Amtrak Empire Service train passes by on Track 2.
After departing Utica, the short freight is next seen speeding along on the "high iron" in Yorkville, a few miles from Utica.
The final scenes are in Rome as switching into Revere is observed.

Grew up in the Mohawk Valley and wasn’t aware the Revere still had vibrant manufacturing so I went to there website and found this statement. Revere Copper is an employee-owned company with over one million square feet of manufacturing space in Rome, NY. Markets we serve include architectural, electrical, telecommunications, air conditioning, industrial machinery, equipment and other markets. Antimicrobial metal is an important emerging segment today, and copper is a clear leader in this area. That would also explain the enclosed rail cars, probably receiving raw copper which is highly sought out by organized crime for theft and resale. Great video again.

This is a very good education on local and railroad history. Don't know why, but I've been so infatuated with trains that years ago, I applied to both CSX & Norfolk Southern. For seven years(hard labor), I was on the railroad maintenance, eventually operating rail grinders & ballast regulators, for a rail contractor. From Buffalo through the Hudson(the most scenic), I worked. Lots of people have short careers due to injury & locating better-pay stay-at-home jobs. Truly did enjoy the work and travel. Wish more residents would care about "local," videos.

Awesome video and the CSX train that passed through had 135 cars and figured it would be atleast 100 cars w that DPU mid train! How neat to meet a railfan that's been doing it for over 70 years. That ole ALCO C425 moves right along! I'm a BIG FAN of the ALCO LOCOMOTIVES! Great switching process going on and good to see an industry getting serviced again. Thanks for sharing your videos with us.

How do you know when they are running? You have an insider? Al Gorney was the person that gave Dewitt Geeps there name. The Alco RS3's that Penn Central repowered with EMD 567 prime movers. Some were done in Syracuse ( Dewitt engine shop) others at the Pennsy Juniata shops in Altoona. The west bound had 134 cars with the DPU cut in between 61 and 62. I saw one the other day with 137 cars. 2 engines up front DPU about mid train

The best part about the CSX through the state is the boxcars. Never know what you might see on a CSX manifest heading to or from Schenectady. Cotton Belt, Southern Pacific, DRGW, all sorts of patched cars, etc.
