I really enjoy your explanations because as technical as certain lines and attacks might be, you use words and descriptions that an amateur like myself can grasp. Most of the channels assume a level of expertise that the majority of people interested in chess do not have (and as a result I can listen to these channels but not really comprehend and learn the game to take me to a higher level of understanding). You have a unique ability to help the difficult things understood. (If you are not teaching or coaching chess players you are missing a calling). As a lover of the game I also enjoy your brief opinions about how players are doing, whether they are struggling or succeeding in a tournament, and what their strengths and weaknesses are in your opinion. It's hard to get opinions online from experts like yourself. Even if it is only an opinion, it helps me understand the game, the triumphs and struggles of GM's and IM's and what I can be looking for to understand and appreciate what players are accomplishing.

A Petrosian-like performance by Carlsen so far in this event. In this game he found ways to get his pieces to the best squares and even made Qh1 (see Petrosian-Gligoric, Rovinj/Zagreb 1970)
@alexandrefreitas92954 жыл бұрын
The difference is that Petrosian was destroyed in that game...his performance wasn't "Petrosian-like"
@robertatlas90014 жыл бұрын
@@alexandrefreitas9295 True. My comment got truncated. I originally said he even made Qh1 look good, which Petrosian failed to do in a famous game.

I followed this live - it was a game where the clock times were no less important than the actual moves. Carlsen kept increasing the pressure on Vitiugov by moving quickly in a position which was easier to play for White (even if not so much better objectively); when Vitiugov resigned he had about 12 minutes left for his remaining 11 moves to the time control compared with nearly a full hour for Carlsen. Btw, Sesse (analysis.sesse.net - a Stockfish program running on the mainframe of a Norwegian super-computer), which provides online evaluation of Carlsen's game, was evaluating the position after 29...Nd4 (instead of 29...f6?) as 0.00, completely equal.

Which all goes to prove that computer chess is a very didn't proposition from over-the-board human chess.

Carlsen and Caruana? Those two old plow horses? The New Hot Stuff is Firouzja! 🚘🕴 and ....somebody (I'm not sure who. You'll have to take care of that. ) Great game and commentary. ♔☇♚

After having hard time against van Foreest, Vitiugov probably couldn't recover. Interesting standings now as Carlsen hasn't played yet with the top players. Warming up?
@MordimersChessChannel4 жыл бұрын
I didn't write ALL top players, study the standings again my friend :) But true that Caruana is probably not in the range now, easier set up for him.

Maybe Vitiugov just didn't see that Qf3 would be good?

Vitiugov was unlucky the rest day did not happen a round earlier, he basically beat himself.

I m guessing at 10:05 black's c5 , Bxc5 doesnt work because of Bxg4. Maybe worth mentioning

Why do you play Bd2 to stop Na5 when you eventually have to play a3 to keep the bishop? The bishop on d2 doesn't look well placed

at 8:50 qxd2 looks like a critical line for black

At the risk of being presumptuous, I don' think this game was one of MC's best and certainly not one of Vitiu. best.Perhaps a combination of time pressure and the "Magnus Factor" weighed on him. But using an engine you can see that even after MC's 30 Qh1 Nd4!? Black is apparently still very much in it. For my money the games of Kovalev and Caruana were a lot more engaging.

I read on an online forum that stockfish level 4 has a 1600 elo rating. A. That can't be even close to accurate. B. Alien robot super computers should have a different rating system. #killthemachines
@chriszablocki24604 жыл бұрын
It took me 3 games to beat level 3 on lichess. I am roughly 1300-1400. That machine doesn't play like a 1400-1500 player. It's got all the opening traps on lock, and then apparently blunders on purpose. Like really bad blunders.
