My favorite piece yet! And working with deadlines. For 10% off your first purchase, go to: squarespace.com...
Diving into the unexpected journey of creating a stand for an art piece that means a lot to me. Originally, the art piece and stand was supposed to be one cohesive unit and one video, but because the stand is so cool and requires many disciplines as well as an unfortunate incident, it got its own video.. Made from laminated walnut with hickory accents, this piece has become a testament to the balance between creativity and the pressure of deadlines. I share my thoughts on how deadlines, far from stifling creativity, actually fuel it-pushing me to turn ideas into reality rather than letting them linger in the “what if” zone.

David, the one thing I personally respect most about you is that you do what YOU want to do. You’re not pandering to an audience to make your money, you’re doing what you love AND making money on top of that, and I think that’s amazing. Your audience is going to change with the changes you make, but that’s a good thing. Keep kicking ass, brother!!!

I have been watching your content for many years, back to the Drunken Woodworker. I have commented on some and, to my excitement, you have responded. You’re outside the box creativity has inspired me to create and make my own projects and enjoy woodworking. I kinda drifted away from your channel when you began the “buying cheap tools” video’s. I, for one, am really glad to see you back in the shop doing your channel name, Make Something.

i get you on the getting things done better with a deadline thing. i also get you on teh being more creative as a child thing. i can actually pinpoint the exact moment that this changed. i recently found some old drawings from when i was VERY young. i was actually amazed at them since i can barely draw a line today. i always had a "dark" sense of humor. one day my parents saw some of my drawings and sent me to counselling at church due to some of the subject nature. this essentially beat all of the creativity right out of me.

As a person who specializes in teaching teenagers to be creative, you got that part dead on. Anticipation is building. I knew you liked music, but did not know you have been working for so long to create an album. And your own music in your videos. Really cool. Have your wife give you a deadline for the album, that’ll get you going to get it done. lol. Can’t wait for the next one showing the art piece, and I hope you talk about the sponsor. Your videos are getting better, and it shows with the new narrative you are using.

I so get the deadline thing! I am learning something new, and wanted to create something for my SIL. I was going to mail it, but didn’t have it down in time. They are only 3 hrs away, so I could deliver it and get 3 more days to “perfect it”. I was still not happy, but had to go. I took the 3 best ones. He loved the the one I had done in time to mail it! But without that deadline, I would probably still be trying to get it perfect. Love your creative insights. Funny that your tag lines now inspire nostalgia 🤣

Unique work!! Very cool and it looks rewarding! I didn’t realize that your OCD is intense. I really always thought you just made clean precise clips or videos as editing is amazing in your videos. By no means to I mean to offend you as I’m OCD also. I agree with the deadline thing as it does add a push to complete the goals. I’m sure your sponsor would have given you a break on the deadline but I’m sure a contract was likely involved. Probably good note to accommodate for me in the future of contracts to add a sickness clause of some sort to grant an extended grace period on unforeseeable circumstances. Great job! Always watch your videos as you do inspire myself to “Make something!”

When I was younger I was really good at drawing and hand carving pieces. I stopped in my late twenties and pursued other things. Now, in my sixties, I'm getting back into creating. Times have changed and, while I still have all of my chisels, I'm pursuing a more CNC centric approach. While it's slowly coming back (somewhat) I doubt I will ever be as good as I was. Long winded way of saying never stop creating. Keep up the videos

Hey David - you may not bite on this, but just in case, I want to propose a musical commitment and deadline for you: I want a musical piece in a minor key with multiple harmonic layers. Something you can use when the complexity of a project collides with a problem or setback. Something that presents the tension of the moment. Bonus points for a pairing major key piece that can be used at the beginning and can resolve the tension when played at the end of the episode. Time frame: end of the year You say you like constraints...✌️

In college, I had a system called planned procrastination. I needed a hard deadline with pressure to force me to make decisions and write papers. If I started the project too early it would take me forever and I would change my mind on what I was gonna write about over and over again. Instead, I would wait until I only had 24 or 48 hours to hand in my paper before I even started it. By forcing myself to have a small amount of time to accomplish the task I was able to be way more efficient and productive in my work.

The video method you're trying to do is far more achievable with a helper running the camera. If they share your vision, they can make it feel more natural vs trying to set up the shot and maybe it fail or not, they are able to adjust on the fly for you and get you that natural in the moment shot.
