This interview is like a dream come true for me- the PC versions of the first three Harry Potter games were far and away my favorite video games growing up! Still might be, actually…
@condeuiosandilixtos78582 жыл бұрын
The ability to play as Harry, Ron, and Hermione along with the engine upgrade, in POA, made me so excited for the sequel, since POA itself was fun and beautiful, yet sadly too short, compared to its predecessors. And then EA hired another studio to do GOF. It's been 17 years and I'm still mad KnowWonder wasn't allowed to make more Harry Potter games.
@Peterx6482 жыл бұрын
Yes, I also loved the first three games much more than the newer ones, well EA have to fuck everything up like always. GOF was a trash, mainly technology wise, you couldn't even change the resolution and GFX details.

I quite like GoF, it's its own kind of game and very fun, but I prefer 1-3 and I wish I could have KnowWonder versions of the later years.
@MrKlausbaudelaire2 жыл бұрын
GoF was such a disaster I heard the next two games had a lot of opening for fan input, and it worked, IMO. There are some elements from the first three games like the original soundtrack and portraits everywhere (replay some Chamber or Prisoner and notice how you can find all the shortcut portraits from OoP and HBP in these earlier games). My only nitpick with these games is that they had the absolute golden opportunity to adapt what the movies did not! St. Mungus Hospital, the Gaunt and Hepzibah smith, yet... they completely forgot! And they had the cast of the whole movie voicing characters modeled after their own face!

A personal anekdote; I used to play these games (the first three) all the time on PC when I was between 6 and 10 years old. I know every corner, every level, and was always looking for new secrets and corners of the map. I have very fond memories of playing these games and getting lost in them; my imagination always ran wild at what would be behind this door, or that passage. Somehow the world they created seemed so much bigger than it actually was. They managed to make Hogwarts immersive and huge, even when it's actually not that big when you look at it. They have a special place in my hearts, and I dare say in a great deal of people. CoS especially; that game is perfect in so many ways. Thanks Christo & the team for your efforts. The early 2000's was such a great time to be a gamer. Games back then had soul and that's proven: (almost) 20 years after The Chamber of Secrets was released, I still reminisce about playing this absolutely perfect game and my favorite Harry Potter game of all times! I can't remember how many times I've completed it. At any given time, I can remember the intro scene and music for the PC version and... the one thing I love with all my being, the entire soundtrack! Especially The Diagon Alley/PC-version pause menu song. That song has been stuck in my mind ever since I played the game for the first time as a little kid. Also, the gnome game has to be one of the funniest things in The Chamber of Secrets, I know I really enjoyed it! The dueling club was another one of my favorite things in CoS! There are so many thngs, I could go on forever. Ok, you've convinced me. Gonna turn on my Windows XP PC now and play CoS again because it's been too long and it also turns 20 in november! The first ever game that I played when I was a young lad was Harry Potter and the Philosopher's stone for PC. I recieved it as a gift for my birthday when I turned seven years old. I got so hooked on the story of that game, including the brilliant music by Jeremy Soule, that I would play it every day after school for the next couple years. So much was my love and addiction for the game that my father even got angry with me once, mostly for not listening to him for chores and insisting on playing on the pc, he broke the disc for the game. It was traumatic. I was distraught. My father felt incredibly bad so he got me another copy of the game and even bought me the second game. The first three Harry Potter games will always hold a special place in my childhood. Those games introduced me to the books, the movies and the universe. Even now at twenty six years, I still come back to the games including the music, especially during the times I can finally get a break from university subjects (I do law now, lol). Thank you, Christo and everyone involved for making them. You made my childhood very special.

This is so amazing to watch, because as a kid you didn't understand where the games came from and then growing up the team behind still felt like a mystery, while you learned all about who were making the movies, so it's so cool to actually hear from the people behind it! I was probably a bigger fan of the games than of the movies, I wanted to build all areas of the games as a gigantic theme park so I could visit the areas in real life and I remember I managed to find the music files of the game and record them by putting a tape recorder next to the computer speakers. Terrible quality, but it allowed me to listen to the music from the game in my room. Had a blast with these games and I'd love to be able to play them again!

Thank you so much for Part 2! It was very interesting to learn more about the development of these wonderful games, and it's always great to see them placed into the spotlight, because that is where they belong, forever. Again thanks to all of the people involved in creating them - it was super obvious the development teams were extremely creative, passionate, skilled, ànd themselves fans of the source material... I am so glad that they had so much freedom in those days and were not strictly tied to the plotline of the movie (as was the case from HP4/HP5 onward). It made playing these games so much more exciting because you never knew what would lie behind the next corner or would come next! On a personal note, I think my favorite part out of the three games is the sneaking section with Filch and Ms. Norris in the library from HP1: the level design and overall atmosphere is just so incredibly good, and combined with the voice acting and music this made it a very memorable playing experience!

I still have the email with Eric Gingrich where I asked him about his involvement on the Lemony Snicket tie-in which ran on the same engine as POA. His specialty was mostly real time cutscenes and was quite happy with the modding I did with the game back then.

The Prisoner of Azkaban was literally the first game I got along with my first family PC in 2007. I spent countless hours playing all three of those game and have huge nostalgia towards them. Looking back at those games I probably prefer the PS1 and PS2 versions as they're more advanced and just suit my general gaming preferences more, but it's the PC versions that I grew up with and I will forever be grateful for being able to experience them as a kid. They are what introduced me to the platforming genre, which I still love with all of my heart.

I really hope and STRONGLY suggest they remaster these timeless masterpieces as a tribute to these games that helped mold and make our childhoods. Mischief managed!✨❤️

We played these games to hell and back. Our game of The Chamber Of Secrets had bug in it where if you would hit filch in the hallway, he would glitch. This ended with filch continuesly yelling ''aaarghh! Aaargh" until you moved away and us squealing like banshees. The first three games are absoulute gems and i would definetly want to see them remastered

Man, the first game was great but these two were so special. I think I have the most time on Chamber of Secrets, but Prisoner is often underrated!

Definitely. I checked a wiki called Cutting Room Floor and it turns out that POA was rushed, so there are a lot of cut mechanics and animations. Not so sure about cut levels though. The game is so visually beautiful that it's a shame that modders don't expand the castle and create more levels. :)

Great interviews! I never thought you would be making a second one. Really enjoyed them. Hopefully you can also interview someone from Argonaut games too

I remember when I was a yound child (around age 7-8) I was playing the Chamber of Secrets and the Philosopher's Stone on my Grandparent's PC, he passed away a couple of years ago after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease those memories of him always triggered by games such as Harry Potter for some reason, I guess it's also because of my first time of going to the cinema was with him watching the first Harry Potter film. Would love a remaster of those gems, such a fun and simple adventures that just makes me smiles everytime I think of them.

I would LOVE to see these three games remastered! Especially the first one since it has such pretty settings. And in Game 3 I would love to see the Lapifors rabbit utilized more.

Credit is also owed to Knowonder for their work on the Series of Unfortunate Events game, itself very much a spiritual 4th entry in this series, but with added Ratchet & Clank-esque weapons to duel enemies in Quake-y boss battles. It was sadly their last game, but even their final tie-in project was a gem!

I never played Harry potter 2 on PC. But the other ones I did. I remember being stuck on the stealth level in the first one, and adoring the third. I replayed the third a few years ago actually. I look back at those games as a fond childhood memory, so good job and thank you !
@condeuiosandilixtos78582 жыл бұрын
Oh you definitely should try Chamber of Secrets for PC! Out of the three games that KnowWonder made, it's considered to be the most fun and the one with the most content. People enjoy it so much that there's still a modding community for it.

These games were my child hood mostly chamber of secrets on pc and the quidditch World Cup. I want these remastered so bad I love these games like no other. Thank you for this video and thank you christo.. I played this game in my parents room when I was 5 while my dad helped me beat the levels I replayed this game until I was about 10 then my mom sold our pc game collection when we got a Mac. Luckily I downloaded it to my computer 20 years later !

My favorite PC games. These where the only games in those three first Hogwarts years that made me feel like I was exploring Hogwarts. You know, I made a friend years later that also played these and we bonded over those memories. We occasionally joke about casting Alohomora on bizarre cracks on the walls in the real world and have a laugh at the reference.

➡️ To the game dev team: you are one of the reasons that made me a software engineer today ! Really, those games were so amazing for me back then, I can't recall how many runs I've done. ➡️ It's a shame that the video game/content industry basically prevents any remasters. I, like hundreds of devs, would love to give it a try, but I know I'd be sued - and on the other side Warner will surely never spend the money for a remaster because it wouldn't probably bring enough revenue. This is so absurd 🥺.

Chamber of Secrets, despite its black sheep status amongst the book and film series, managed to get the best batch of video game tie-ins. I spent so much time on the PS1 and GBC versions, great fun.

@@forza8719 i also think it's the best one it perfectly balances the plot that is getting started for real compared to the first movie and the school aspect of harry potter with the different spells all the magical elemnts of the world and that sense of wonder that after the first two movies is kinda gone as each with each movie the plot becomes more central each time
