Love this series. This is such a different angle on Kisstory. Thank you for doing this.

Unreal how much easier it became to do mockups even when copier machines that could enlarge and reduce came along. So crazy how much work it was to do the most basic compositions.

Double Platinum ~ That’s all you need EPIC! Badass Design too!!! Stood out from the rest. STRUTTER 78!!!
@DF-ee8vt4 жыл бұрын
In '78, we still didn't know what the band looked like without makeup, so we took paper and the edge of a pencil lead, and traced the embossed faces to get an idea. Stupid, but fun. We were kids.
@vaporman4424 жыл бұрын
I relate to that so much. Also used to take photos from magazines where they covered their faces. Sometimes they (Gene, especially) would cover the top half of the face and expose his mouth. I would put those together and use makeup photos as references to draw what they would look like without makeup.
@DF-ee8vt4 жыл бұрын
@@vaporman442 There were photos of Gene showing only his eyes, too, which could be put together with the mouth shots. At least using photographs was more rational than using the embossed "pictures" from "Double Platinum"! We used a mirror on the plain side of Paul's face. Worked pretty well, but we were out of luck with the other guys. That mystique was 80% of the intrigue for me.

Claudio......when you made the comment about Peter Criss having Bipolar Disorder, i was already shaking my head YES because you are absolutely 💯 percent correct with your comments. I was diagnosed with Bipolar disorder 2, anxiety and panic disorder and many of the behaviors that Peter has exhibited, i also have exhibited in my life as well. I never was a drug user and i was drinking heavier in my 20s and 30s but i barely drink at all anymore. Mental illness is a serious disease. Its important to always take your medication, stay away from drugs and alcohol, get plenty of sleep, eat healthy, exercise, and lead a healthy lifestyle. It literally ruins your entire life if it is not held in check. Thank you for your observations and comments about it.

Claudio, this series is amazing. I’m also a designer/illustrator and kiss fan since age 5. It’s incredible how much Dennis’s designs have influenced generations of designers- us included. It’s rare to get the designer’s perspective. Thanks for making these! Can’t wait to see the next one!

These epis are gems. The stories he relates about the band are inner sanctum. It's hard to know how much to say about a client. You can see your appreciation when he's telling them. I've been up in that 655 Madison office once in '88 on a random delivery. "Holy shit, this is the KISS office. It's on the 5th floor of some office building. Am I dreamin this?" Haha

what was cool about this album was when the foil started to peel off, you could strip it off, and it was awesome looking. bright white with the embossed pictures.

What was the font for the DP title? Definitely not Helvetica Bold Condensed for sure...
@jondunmore4268 Жыл бұрын
Dennis admits that they doctored the font to make it fit the space between the logos. "stretching and pulling" etc. So it probably is Helvetica, but pulled to fit the space.

Double Platinum came out before the Solo Records so why did the inner graphics look like the Solo Records. . .
@thefonzkiss3 жыл бұрын
Because the solo album photos were copied from the 1977 Love Gun tour book. Google that.
@jetcitysinatra73003 жыл бұрын
@@thefonzkiss I know they used the photos to do both and am guessing that the double platinum record was done to fore shadow the solo records? Kind of a preview of what the solo records might look like.
@thefonzkiss2 жыл бұрын
@@jetcitysinatra7300 no, they just needed good pictures of the band faces. Most fans still haven’t noticed they’re the same pictures (except Ace) four decades later.
@jondunmore4268 Жыл бұрын
Those pictures were taken in 1976 for the Love gun tour. And Dennis says he used those photos over and over again.
