As stated, Curtis wrote and first performed this song. This version is a merger of the original and the Gladys Knight version, along with a solo part Vince added. Curtis’s version is untouchable, but Gladys’s cover is great too. We tried to pay respect to both versions. Ledisi sounds amazing.

What a wonderful rendition of a Curtis Mayfield song. Curtis was indeed a modern day poet songwriter of massive talent. His early work with the Impressions produced classics and his solo career may have eclipsed that. The making of you was written for the soundtrack to the movie Claudine by Mayfield in 1974.
