for a kid in the 60's (like yours truly) Vaughn was THE coolest, hippest spy that ever was on TV (mind you, Culp and Coz were also great on "I Spy" but Vaughn & McCallum were my faves (along with Maxwell Smart lol..just kidding) in all serious, gives me a major warm feeling inside to see these dear old friends again--almost gets me choked up--you have to have been ALIVE in the 60's to know what I mean. Great days, like NO other. Thx tons for whoever posted this--u freakin' rule Kevin in NY

@Isotec1 I still enjoy watching The Man From U.N.C.L.E. Now that was a show that had real actors and real scripts, lots of action and none of the B.S. that you get from watching 'reality' TV, which truly sucks!! That's great to know that Ian Fleming (creator of James Bond) was a fan and that he wrote some episodes and was also a consultant. Thanks for the info because I didn't know that. And sometimes I find myself humming the theme music (lol).

So cool! Thanks for sharing this..... Robert Vaughan has recently presented his own story on BBC Radio 4 of his early days behind the Iron Curtain (he wasn't a spy but some believed he might be) - good stuff - pick it up on BBC iPlayer before it goes away!

This show premiered when I was in 2nd grade & the teenaged boy who lived next door, Mark, was absolutely obsessed with this show. I never saw it, as I had to be in bed by 8 p.m. but whenever someone mentions The Man From U.N.C.L.E., I think of Mark Reibling! This was America's answer to James Bond.

I was a big fan of The Man from UNCLE in grade school. I wrote to NBC and received a Robert Vaughn photo and an official Man From UNCLE ID card. Made my entire year. I read all the paperback books @.50 cents each and even read the month Man From UNCLE magazine. And don't forget the card game, board game and lunch box!

Terrific theme! I liked the first opening credits (in black & white) best, though -- where a gunman takes shots at Napoleon Solo, only he's behind bullet-proof glass! One of the best shows of the Sixties.

@imtheduke I presume you're talking about Leo Carroll - a fair point. Some younger viewers may assume they're all dead but Robert Vaughn is currently in 2 shows in the UK (Hustle & Coronation St.) & David McCallum is on NCIS - so they haven't even retired yet!

I was a big fan of the show growing up in the 1960's.I begged my parents for the Man from U.N.C.L.E. gun for Christmas one year. Besides the pistol, it included all of the attachments you saw on the series plus the triangular shaped ID badge. I have many happy memories playing with it, pretending to be an agent. Anyone else remember the toy?

Robert Vaughan was close friends with Bobby Kennedy and campaigned for him during his Presidential campaign. At one point, RFK suggested Vaughan run for the open US Senate seat from California. And promised the full support of the Kennedy family if he did. Vaughan thought about it, but Bobby died before he could give him an answer

@trdidion Yes. You are correct. Robert Vaughn did star in Bullitt. He portrayed Walter Chalmers, a self-serving politician who attempts to make friends with Frank Bullitt. When the main Mob witness dies during a Mob probe, Chalmers tries to have Lt. Bullitt fired. This Chalmers character ruined Vaughn's chance to enter politics.

I love Vaughn's stories about Steve McQueen. Apparently, McQueen couldn't stand Yul Brynner while filming Magnificent 7. McQueen did everything in the book to annoy Brynner & mock him including showing Brynner how to shoot a pistol which made Yul look like a total idiot.

Yes,11. On EBay I found the instructions complete with diagram which detailed the set-up of the toy.I remember reading it for the first time. What a thrill then and even now since it brought back so many fond memories. It was made by the Ideal toy company. I believe it was marketed as the Napoleon Solo gun, as 11 was his badge number. Ah yes, those were the days of fun and games.

The best of the four arrangements of the themes by a LONG way, is this one, Season 2's. New one for each season, oddly. Jerry Goldsmith was furious at how Lalo Schifrin had messed with his tune for this sophomore year, though I am positive he was just jealous that Lalo had done a far better arrangement. Best spy theme tune of them all....for TV that is.

I remember two episodes of this show... One was in a discotheque where a secret tone on a record detonated a bomb. The other was when (character actor, the late) John McGiver played a weird villain called "Mr. Mozart". He tortured our heroes. He said "I'll release the bees!" VERY nasty bees, that could only be calmed by one food: Cumberly Honey...
