The really funny thing about this song is that the president of GM had the car described in this song built and given to Johnny at a CMA awards show (I remember watching it on TV as a child). Johnny was singing this song on stage while six guys pushed the car on stage behind him. When he finnished singing he turned and saw the car and nearly fell down laughing at it. Then the CEO of GM walked over and shook hands with Johnny and told him "We loved the song so much we decided you had to have that car", then he reached into his pocket and handed Johnny the keys. Johnny yelled, "Hey June let's go for a drive", then she joined him on stage, they got in the car and drove it off stage. if you want to see what the car looked (looks) like search "psychobilly cadallac photos".

I had a feeling you'd like this one. Johnny Cash is a well loved man. And thank you for saying happy birthday to my daughter. She's even a Johnny Cash fan and she's going to be 21 years old.

There is a fun tradition of "novelty" songs here in America. A few of my favorites: Jim Stafford "Wildwood Flower" (Wildwood Weed), Jerry Reed "Amos Moses", Johnny Horton "Battle of New Orleans " and "North to Alaska", Jimmy Dean "Big John".

This song came out in mid 70's. My dad was working midnight shift and after he got off work, driving home, he heard this song come on the radio. So, my dad stopped by the record store and bought me the 45 RPM. He knew I would love this song.

Such a funny song about a Man who collected parts of a Cadillac for 25 years. After all that time, it turns into a Frankenstein car due to changes in the car over the time. Another great song, "Flushed from the Bathroom of My Heart ". Johnny definitely had a great sense of humor. Great reaction. Thanks Harri and Nicole for a great memory. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

This & his song "A Boy Named Sue" were my dad's two favorite Johnny Cash songs. As a small child, I lived less than a mile from his home. He & June Carter were the nicest people. Fun Fact:The term "psychobilly" that he used to describe his Cadillac, was adopted to describe a form of rockabilly music that was inspired by 1950's B horror movies. The Cramps are my favorites in the psychobilly music genre.

If you google “one piece at a time car”, you’ll find that after the song came out, two different people made them from parts.

Contrast this song with his last released just before his death. Rick Ruben worked with Johnny Cash to produce amazing tracks, one of which was a cover of the 9 Inch Nails song "Hurt". The video of Johnny singing "Hurt" is an Earth shattering Epic performance of raw emotions.

Johnny's great, but he didn't write this song. The writer was Wayne Kemp. Johnny did not write all of his hits. He had a hit with a similar song to this one -- "A Boy Named Sue" that was written by Shel Silverstein. His wife June Carter and Merle Kilgore wrote "Ring of Fire". Kris Kristopherson wrote "Sunday Morning Coming Down".

Comedy songs are what had gotten my parents through the Great Depression. My Mother loved Spike Jones and the duo Homer and Jethro. The one who you should check out was Roger Miller who was popular in the '60's. All of them were talented musicians who couldn't make it doing serious music, too much competition. A more recent group who I love who mix comedy with serious love songs is the Canadian group Bare Naked Ladies. Roger Miller's songs include "Dang Me", "You Can't Roller Skate In a Buffalo Herd", "England Swings" and "Chug-a-Lug". Spike Jones' biggest hit was "Der Fuehrer's Face". Homer and Jethro had no hit singles but were often on the Johnny Cash show and well respected by Nashville musicians. Sheb Wooley wrote "Purple People Eater." and was a regular on the hit T.V. series "Rawhide" with Clint Eastwood. "Jackson" is a great song Johnny Cash did with his wife, June Carter Cash. Three of the best movies done by Hollywood about music stars and their personal lives are "I Walk the Line" about Johnny and June, "Ray" about Ray Charles, and "La Bamba" about Richie Valens. Hmmm, throw in the movie "Buddy Holly Story" and the award winning T.V. series about the Temptations. A great fictional movie about the music business is the Irish Movie "The Commitments" who are into early Soul and Rhythm and Blues, especially Wilson Pickett and Otis Redding. It's all good.

Pluto was in Sidereal Gemini for a long time (remember I told you the difference between Tropical and Sidereal). So not only my father has this placement but people like Johnny Cash who are 20 years or more older than my father. They love cars (rven Katherine Hepburn loves them born in 1909), are humorous and their way of speaking is full of life eith full of alacrity.

Harri you have to listen to Paul's brother Michael. 1974 Mike McCartney (McGear) and Wings. Leave it , has great bass playing. Simply Love You is also a must listen. The man who found God on the moon. Awesome song! Sea Breezes. And more, Hendrix played on Mikes 1968 album. So much in love and Ex-Art student songs. Brother You are missing out. Great time listening and hearing what you think about all these classics. Been binge watching you the last few days. Paul and John were jamming in 74. One song you may hear John? They are on Mike's KZbin channel.

This is a funny song, and would probably be banned now because it promotes stealing from a job, hahahahaha I didn't know much about him when I was young, then they made a movie about him, and I was dating a guy that had to get the new movies each week when they first came out, and so, I watched it, and started looking into him more. That was 25 years ago or so now.... Thank you Harri!

Great song and definitely a classic. So the next Johnny Cash tunes that you should react to that I would recommend would be You're the Nearest Thing to Heaven, The Ways of a woman in Love, Give My Love to Rose, Oney, and one that would be pertinent for today, The One on the Right is on the Left.

You can find pictures of the car online. Not THE car, obviously, but a guy who, I believe, owned a Cadillac dealership actually built one that matched the description in the song-- externally, at least, & surprised Johnny with it. There are pictures of them posing with it. Not sure what ever happened to it.
