In northwestern Ontario, lies the little town of Emo. Michael Scheibler and his wife, Betty, bought 320 acres of land here. Little did they know there was something unusual about this place. Animals started appearing, finding sanctuary here. Deer, raccoons, a wolf, and then...Bears! Soon, Michael and the bears would develop mutual trust in each other and he began to do the remarkable. He began to feed the bears by hand. This unique documentary will take you on an unpredictable journey and a heartwarming story of how wild animals taught one broken man to be human again.

What kind of human would gut shoot a bear because they think it's fun? What kind of human would shoot a bald eagle? It sickens me. Thank you Mr Scheibler for your dedication and gentle kindness to all the wild things.

This was so moving to see how a man can be healed by God's creatures and in turn bring them healing too. Despite the pain of his abusive childhood he was able to feel God's love for all of his creatures. Blessings to you Michael for bringing light to this dark world and for making it a better place. 🙏🏻

Wow, what a story. I wonder though that if visitors come and see these beautiful tame bears if then they will get themselves in trouble trying it in the wild with bears that are dangerous. Michael and his wife are such gentle spirits. It gives me the giggles to see the bears eating a cake. I felt so sad and angry hearing about Michael's parents, his father shooting his dog, and his mother making him kill the duck.

😉Mmmmm….Omg, This man is amazing and truly has a good heart and a passion for taking care of these animals. Because it is a sanctuary and he also looks after the sick or injured animals, they are free to come and go as they please..With the bears they seem to trust him and for a mother bear to leave her cubs there and go off and do her thing, that shows she isn’t aggressive. For me I would be feeding the bears a more healthy option and give them a special treat once a month?…😝

Bears are very sociable animals, and as we're seeing as of late, so are many other species. Here's my bear story. - As a kid back in the 60's on family vacations driving through Yosemite, and Yellowstone parks, there were plenty of black bears roaming around. Numerous times we stopped on the side of the road because the bears would congregate there being attracted to the humans giving out food. There would be 20/40 cars parked either just watching the bears, or feeding them through the windows as me and my brothers were. One memory was an actually scary one, but being 7 years old my brain was telling me it was a cartoon. This couple just across from us got out of the car, and were soon chased by a big black bear. They were running around the car just as you would in a cartoon, and I was laughing. They managed to get back in the car, all was well, and the live cartoon was over. It could have been dangerous for them obviously as the bear doesn't know his strength even though he/she just wanted to have some fun, and wasn't in attack mode. While this was going on I was feeding a bear angel food cookies out my window, and my brothers were feeding another bear out the other window, and there was another bear on the front hood of the car, it was quite a scene, and that was the only scary part for me, the bear on the hood could have come right through the windshield if he/she had wanted to. 😁👍✌

I'm hopeful for all of those who cannot speak for themselves. I hope we as humans will become better at being animals, for it seems they have a better system than we. I'm curious as to how the human foods affect the body of the wild animals. as we know since humans stopped hunting and have preserves and such, our bodies are not as good as we could be. I'm not against feeding the wild since we humans have taken away much more of their food opportunities.

Um, this man is free to live his life how he wishes of course, but I don’t think this type of behavior does him or the bears any favor. When the many bears get used to him and the food, it destroys their respect/ fear for humans and can lead to all kinds of tragic accidents. Bears are completely unpredictable and this has all the earmarks of a very bad idea.

In fact it looks to me like we're backpedaling as fast as we can. Instead of getting stupid in their space we're normalizing interactions in OUR spaces. There's a saying I've spent the last twenty years teaching my own children that might apply here: "Please remember: you are soft and squishy and the world is full of sharp things." My oldest son forgot that one day and it nearly killed him.

These folks live a little south of Smartville. Feeding wild bears is not good for the animals or for the people. Feeding huge wild bears out of your mouth is neat until the bear bites your face off along with the donut. This is normal behavior for a wild bear. Watch the documentary Grizzly Man for more foolishness and things get serious REAL fast.
