The Kodiak Bear is a unique species of Grizzly, known to be the largest species of bear in the world, living along the Kodiak Archipelago of Southern Alaska. In this documentary, cinematographer Andreas journeys into the depths of the great Alaskan wilderness to find some of the largest grizzly bears in the US. In his expedition, he travels through some of Alaska's most remote areas with his friend Greg and learns more about how the native Alaskan population lives in some of the most inhospitable spots of the frigid US State.

i lived in Alaska for 18 years and have always been fascinated by the big bears. I have never seen such footage. The film maker has balls of steel and an amazing professional touch. Thank you for putting your life in danger to allow all of us to feel just a bit of what you went through.

There was a man who lived with the bears in Alaska. Talked a woman into living with them. Sure enough an old bear ate them yet previous yrs squeeters ate him. He video taped all these bears. I want to say Tim Treadwell, but memory fails his name but not the fact of the bears he warned us about is the 1 who did them in!

This Wildlife Photographers who filmed this Video did an outstanding piece of work. This young man Andreas and his partner have extensive knowledge of Brown Bears and Nerves of steel to be able get as close to these huge Brown Bears and photograph them. The Narrator did a fine job explaining and commenting on each bear they saw and filmed. This Documentary is one of the highest quality I have seen in both subject matter and Video Quality.

I agree with the narration at the end which stated hunters would need no skill and are better to just let the bears go on unharmed! Really great documentary! I admire the hard work and multiple skills to do this - not only film, but hunt these animals (find where they are), filming getting so close, how to navigate, repair equipment and on and on. That is so smart using a sailboat to travel - can go far on no gas. This was a great film.

This was such a beautiful and educational documentary! I couldn’t believe how close he got to the bears, the photography was excellent and I’m happy to know there’s a place where hardly any humans venture into so those bears don’t get hunted and there’s plenty of food so the mothers have up to four cubs! And the bears don’t have fear of humans. I’m scared of grizzlies but I think black bears are so cute, especially the mother with cubs and the way they climb trees!

30 years ago a friend told me of his stay on Kodiak Island. Fishing and hiking filled his "off hours" as a visiting engineer on several Navy projects there. On one of his many hikes through the old growth forest, he came upon a large evergreen tree and was surprised to see a bear's claw marks on the ancient tree's bark. It was not the size or depth of the bark removed by the bear's large claws, rather the elevation of the highest gouges. That's when the engineer in him caused him to measure the height of the marks, which was almost 20'. When he first told me the story I was skeptical; however, years later I have grown to disbelieve this story less and less.

I truly don't know how anyone could even think about shooting one of those beautiful animals with anything other than a camera. Plus, the fact that these animals are so peaceful if you do have one as a trophy, it only shows that you're a true coward needing to go after an animal that doesn't see you as a threat, so they'll not run making it easy for you to kill them. The thing to do, is to leave them alone to live in peace and just love the fact that they exist on this planet with us, and that we get to see videos like this one showing them at peace in nature.

It's a myth that Grizzly Bears can't climb trees. Though their weight makes it harder, they have been known to climb trees in pursuit of prey. If the branches are arranged in a ladder type arrangement it is made easier.

This is an unbelievable video. Spectacular. I always thought that it was in the nature of a grizzly or polar or brown bear to attack humans. "That's how they are", I thought. Here we see proof that I was wrong. Bears attacking humans is learned behavior. Bears attack us because they have learned that humans are there to hurt them. It is not in their nature; it is learned behavior. This is incredible.

Bears attack humans when they get hungry and desesperate, has nothing to do with learned behavior, most of them have never seen a human. If they have food and aren’t hungry they don’t usually attack humans and then again Grizzly bears are carnivores they feed off of other animals they kill, you think they wouldn’t feed of a human just because we’re humans?
