Straight to the point: Star Wars like any other story has points to improve but it is very important to remember that Star Wars cannot and will never be guided by reality because Star Wars are not and will never be a Science Fiction. Many, many times the authors have made it clear that Star Wars is a fairy tale, a fantasy and does not rely on science or reality to tell their stories and that is what sets them apart.

Shad I love you but the fob isn't even the greatest issue anymore. So in episode 5 of Mando we are told that Grogu was trained in the jedi temple (which can have its own issues main one being that Grogu is now 50 and episode 3 was around 35 years ago which would mean that Grogu was either 15 once he started training which is too old or he was training for almost 15 years, if so why isn't he a master already). Anyway the big issue I want to address is Grogu knows how to force heal which means that he most likely learned it in the temple (and Rey knows how to heal too most likely from the jedi texts so the jedi would definitely have this ability on record in the archives) which means 2 things either Anakin is too lazy or too stupid to seek out this ability and we both know Anakin is neither lazy nor stupid since he is literally willing to commit atrocities just for the chance to learn an ability that could prevent death.

There are a few different ways weapons work in star wars. Most you see need packs that act as heat sinks, some, namely in the clone wars era require actual ammunition. (if you play starwars republic commando you'll use a weapon that uses ammo).
@brandonguffey59594 жыл бұрын
@@glassramen A blaster, also called a gun, was a ranged weapon that fired bursts of particle beam energy called blaster bolts from a replaceable power pack. The most commonly used weapon in the galaxy, blasters' intense beams consisted of compacted high-energy particles and intense light that could kill or paralyze their target, depending on the setting. Blasters ranged in size and power from compact pistols to large, heavy rifles to starship-mounted blaster cannons. Most personal blasters had two kinds of ammunition: a gas cartridge and a power cell. Blaster gas cartridges could typically provide for up to five hundred shots before needing replacement. Most blaster power packs could supply energy for up to one hundred shots. Certain more powerful weapons put greater demands on the gas cartridge, power pack, or both: less powerful weapons, like the Drearian Defense Conglomerate Defender sporting blaster pistol, relied largely on the power cell and used only a small quantity of gas, while very powerful weapons, such as the illegal disruptor, used much larger amounts of gas. Still other weapons, namely those dating from earlier times, employed a kind of removable power cell/cartridge which supplied enough energy (though at weaker levels) to make total expenditure seldom. Most blasters also had a stun setting, which fed power through a secondary emitter, bypassing the gas chamber to create a ring-shaped electromagnetic burst that disrupted the target's nervous system, often leaving them unconscious.[5] Blaster bolts themselves carried no heat. On impact, however, their displacement of matter produced kinetic energy that caused heat: the atmosphere was displaced by the bolt's passage (causing the blaster's iconic sound[6]); materials struck by bolts tended to deform and fuse; and liquids inside organic bodies instantly changed state to steam, expanding and doing terrible damage to surrounding tissue.[7] Consequently, bolts usually dissipated in a small, but violent, explosion of extreme heat and force upon contact with an unshielded surface, sometimes leaving blast points. Weapons such as Han Solo's DL-44 heavy blaster pistol and the E-11 blaster rifle could cause incredible destruction, and had the power to blow large chunks from stone walls and smaller holes and pockmarks out of durasteel bulkheads, as seen in Han Solo and Luke Skywalker's raid on Detention Block AA-23 in 0 BBY.[8]

From Reddit: "The trackers work by plugging specific biometric data into the device (a chain code) which will locate any lifeform with that specific data. This is why Mando was incredulous about only getting the age of the asset. Obviously, the more a Target spend time in society, the better tracking data the fobs will be able to have. This is why they have a much easier job tracking mando once he has the child, they are using his information to find them both. This is also why the combination of last known location and the baby Yoda's age was enough to find him. it was simply honing on a life form that was 50 years old" Apparently you need to know a location near the target also (like mando needs to know when looking for baby Yoda in the show) so the are not useful at any distance.

It's very simple, and I think Mauler said it well when he said "Rules generate stakes which generates investment". Having established rules dictates what can and can't happen in a story. Setting clear the limitations of characters, their abilities, different technologies, etc. is what determines the stakes of any given situation. The stakes, or tension, then helps to generate the investment of the audience in the story and/or characters. No rules means the audience doesn't know what can and can't happen in a given situation, which means the stakes are indeterminable, and thus it is difficult for the audience to be invested and care about what is happening.

This is something that Disney blows raspberries at. Just look at the Marvel movies. Every character, good or bad, has exactly the level of power they need for any given scene to work, but it's never consistent throughout the stories. Movies and TV-shows generally aren't written as a long coherent story, but rather as a group of "epic" scenes. Whether these scenes fit together in a logical fashion is of little or no importance, as long as each individual scene scores well with test audiences.

The fobs you are referencing are called “Tracking Fobs” and use a person’s “chain code” A chain code is an identification marker that contains biographical information on an individual. The chain code wasn’t put into use until around 5 years AFTER the Empire was started. Now for some assumptions. Luke was taken to Tatooine: a planet ruled by the hutts who are known to be criminals. They are not going to willingly take some kind of universal tracking code and from every piece of cannon we have seen so far, as long as they mostly cooperated, everyone seemed to leave them and their systems alone. So it’s plausible that maybe Luke never got a chain code. Leia’s would have been coded as a daughter of the Organa family and not as a Skywalker/Amidala.

Then why do the Empire not immediately know where any rebel bases are, especially those Leia visits? And why do they operate with beeps of increasing frequency?! They are excessively useful and underutilised and unnecessarily awkward to use all at the same time without any of those properties interacting or cancelling each other out. It's bizarre.
@danielhounshell25264 жыл бұрын
@@davidwilson6577 rebels almost always established their bases on remote planets, and Leia was only a known rebel toward the end of the conflict, as that is when the OT takes place. Luke and Leia were also almost constantly on the move unless they were on one of these remote rebel bases. This means that the trackers would be nearly useless in this instance unless the Empire already knew what planet a rebel base was on, but then they could just use the death star to destroy it and save themselves the trouble. This is because, again, the trackers are visually established to only be able to work if the person is on the same planet as the individual they're tracking. The beeps of increasing frequency are somewhat obvious, they indicate proximity, the exact same way that audio only tracking works in real life, such as with metal detectors. The Mandalorian avoids exposition as much as possible, and is better for it. It shows rather than tells, and the fobs are an excellent example of that. What Shad is asking for here is just straight up exposition of things that have already been established visually.

@@danielhounshell2526 So why is Mando concerned about staying on a planet in the outback? If the fobs only work while on the same planet, why would they be an issue for him? This was a big concern in season 1. If the fobs only work on-world, which there's no reason to think they should, why not stay with that village of yokels he trained to... poke things with sticks. Or just pick a random planet and stay there. This wasn't an option because the fobs were tracking Baby Yoda. I'm happy to say 'that was a mistake, fobs are supposed to work this way' except in canon the only fobs we see are the Mando ones and they don't work that way.
@TankHunter6784 жыл бұрын
@@davidwilson6577 Simple really: a rebel sympathizer could mess with the codes used to track known rebels, so that the tracking fobs are pointed at the wrong targets making them unreliable. If you also take into account that the tracking fobs have short range the user needs to know the planet the target was last on. Rebels were known to pack up their bases and move them to ones without a population after jumping multiple times. This is why the Empire had to rely on probe droids, some luck, and interrogating prisoners they manage to take. This is also why Vader decided to track the ship rather then the people on the ship, as they will not need to rely on tracking code that may be unreliable as the tracker placed on the ship was activated that day.

Tracking Fobs were specifically created and introduced by the Empire as well, so they did not have a lot of time to set up a comprehensive database during the relatively short time in which the Imperial Age even lasted. It's exactly the problem of not having had the ability to tag as many people as they wanted to, particularly when it comes to nobodies like Luke. They didn't only tag anyone they had had in custody, but those definitely should have been tagged, like Leia... Although given the circumstances, it's reasonable to assume that even if it was used (And given it's the first movie, let's excuse them for not thinking 50 years into the future), the rebels likely had a specialized way to remove it from their single most important member. The New Republic also took over the system, so while the Imperials definitely had some level of access to it still, the First Order almost for sure wouldn't, not in any useful capacity.

That doesn't fix the problem on its own. The first thing any escaped prisoner who knows he's being tracked like that would do is remove it. Episode I established that they can implant things like this surgically, to help prevent removal, but Anakin was building a scanner to locate his, so it can't be that hard to detect it. Once you have that info, just cut open the area above the tracker and rip it out. Only way to keep it in place, despite being found, is to make it part of the nervous system, such that removal is deadly, but that integration would lead to all sorts of protests (and lawsuits) about rights, invasive involuntary surgery, and what to do after the 'sentence' is over. Is it just turned off? If so, who can turn it back on? If it can be removed, that means you can get it removed with the right training and tools, such as would be quite lucrative to an underworld sawbones. Even if you didn't tell the prisoner about the tracker, they'd figure it out quick. Or at least other criminals watching them get found and re-arrested would, and you have to go right back to square one.

Sorry, your comment annoys me with it's blatant stupidity: fuel was directly implied to exist in empire strike's back (Hans line of "it's a bit far, but we should be able to make it there"), and was implied or infered to exist in other film's (which I don't have quotes for) and alll star wars ships are seen to have internal gravity Fields, and by newtonian physics any momentum built up by the bombs within the gravitational field would keep them moving through space, an almost entirely frictionless environment. In regards to the common sense, well, you forgot basic physics, so holding it against them isn't really fair, but yes, in many sections common sense was thrown out the window, such as in the bomber design (which was literally just a WW2 bomber plane with the wings removed and the majority of the fuselage rotated 90degrees, and is exactly as terrible as that sounds) and basically every scene with rose in it, which is unfortunate because casino's can be really fun environments for adventurey type films. @@darthchopper9016 Actually, he gives a disclaimer about this at the very beginning. He acknowledges that his nitpicks may well be established in other canon materials, but that his problem was that they're not explained HERE. It's the same as how I've had to explain all the Rebels and Clone Wars references to my wife because she refuses to watch either series, so things like Ahsoka's appearance are lost on her without outside explanation. Most fans (be they Star Wars Trilogy vets like me, SE/prequel era Legends, or DC) can list a lot of examples to explain most of his plot holes, but the average person whose introduction to Star Wars is the Mandalorian won't understand any worldbuilding beyond what they're exposed to. And us old folk who were using UseNet, TelNet, and various undernets long before the World Wide Web (AKA Internet) existed have a deeper understanding of why it's important to establish firm worldbuilding every time you do something new. Good examples of this are the Pern books or any of the continuities (except the movie) of Hitchhiker's Guide. A bad example of this is Dune, where literally half the book is just a recap of previous books. The former examples are enjoyable by all, no matter where you begin, but the latter is incredibly tedious for anyone whose read one or more prior books in the series. Shad's whole point was that there should be a throwaway line (very useful things indeed) to explain some concepts. I would say shoe leather is more important (i.e. the act of marking the beats between one event and another - a bad director has someone storm out the kitchen and immediately start the car and drive off when in reality it takes multiple actions to get from the door to starting the car), but throwaway lines can also be very effective. The only thing he actually messed up on in this under his rule of "the explanation must take place in the show itself) was regarding fobs. He correctly surmised it involved a DNA sequence, but missed the fact that this was actually explained in the show itself. Also, give him a little leeway. The whole reason he made so many missteps in his vibroblade video was because he used Wookipedia as a resource. He's not a big Star Wars fan, so his sources for SW-related videos are often sketchy at best. The boob armour one was mostly on point, though (except he thought the detail over the breastbone was a cutout), and he DOES have some good arguments in this one based on his criteria.

@@ValosiTiamata The tracking fobs haven’t been explained in the series, but then again the series hasn’t ended yet, still 2 seasons to go. So it feels a little unfair to already come with this criticism. So much surrounding Grogu hasn’t been explained yet. The Mandalorian series is part of the star wars universe, not everything has to be explained in this series. It’s not a stand alone show, so it shouldn’t be judged like one. Nobody goes to see Age of Ultron and then complains about Spider-mans web shooters not being explained in full technical detail. I get his point about the blaster but it feels extremely nitpicky, anyone who sees that scene will get that the blaster is empty/malfunctioning. Most viewers will assume blasters don’t have infinite power, even if they never see anyone reload an imperial blaster. How often do we see a stormtrooper fire 100 shots or more from a simple blaster in anything star wars anyway. Most blasters in star wars have obvious cartridges/cells for power sticking out of them, that should be enough info for the viewer. They have to put a lot of content into these short episodes, I like how it doesn’t get lost in small details. Saying something like “oh no what a bad time to run out of power for this poorly maintained blaster” just isn’t something the Mandalorian does. A lot of Mandos acting is done nonverbal, he hardly ever comments on stuff that goes on during fights when he’s by himself. But yeah I get Shads points. :)

I assumed that the fobs worked like every other sci-fi work: the target is tagged with something like a chip and the fob tracks the chip itself. I didn't really think about it until this video. EDIT: So after reading some comments, and re-watching Episode 1, my conclusion is the tracking fob is essentially a bloodhound that is short-range (like 200m or so) that can't track through dense material. Mando had to get infomation from a data puck to get to the right planet, talk to a local Ugnaut to get to the right building before the fob actually did anything useful. Coming from the EU/older lore, legs were used over repulsors(the hover technology) because the legs provided all terrain capability without sacrificing as much in terms of stability and/or mass capacity. Repulsors are pretty much just a scifi-fantasy-magic technology that provides a repulsive force against nearby objects like the ground, think of them as space tech/magic balloons as they are agnostic to the direction they're applying their force. That was a limiting factor on them as they can only provide so much lifting/repulsing force over a specific distance and provide no propulsive force. The CIS tanks had to have additional thrusters and stabilizing technologies built into them that severely limited their performance. In the original lore ships like Imperial Star Destroyers were too massive to be able to land on planets or even come too close to a planet's gravity well because they lacked sufficient thrust to do more than slow down the ship as it was going down. The largest warships that were able to land on a planet safely in the old lore were the Victory Star Destroyers, which were the designs that were coming into use at the end of the Clone Wars to replace the Venators, Dreadnoughts, etc and were then replaced/supplanted by the Imperial Star Destroyers during the reign of the Empire as the Emperor continued to build the fleet larger and larger. The idea of an Imperial Star Destroyer purposefully entering the atmosphere of a planet was ludicrous until the utter tripe that was the Force Unleashed and it just went down hill from there. Of course none of that matters with Disney holding the reigns now.

Legends state the walkers exist because of varying gravity fields that disrupt repulser lift technology.
@baptistem29784 жыл бұрын
Like, it’s easier to have walkers than adjust the anti-grav engine of every speeder before a planetary assault ? That would make sense, but why did the droid army have floating tanks ? Or maybe if the thing is too heavy, it can’t go over rough terrain / takes more time to adjust ?
@forestwells58204 жыл бұрын
@@baptistem2978 I got an easy idea for that; first time anyone tried to use the tech on full on military vehicles. Proved to be INSANELY time/labor intensive to maintain. Possibly mega expensive too. Not a problem if you have an army of droids and entire banking clans on your side. Less easy if your resources are limited. Future armies decide it's not worth the hassle even if you did have an army of droids and loads of cash. May also be less stable on uneven terrain, or more prone to movement problems. You notice the recoil actually made the whole tank float back a little. This suggests the tech doesn't keep them in place as securely as treads/legs. Potentially, a strong enough storm could become a problem. And I question whether a hover tank could scale a cliff like the Clone's walkers did.
@lordcarnorjax85994 жыл бұрын
The other reason for walkers was that repulsors can't travel through shields like one that was used by the Rebels at the Battle of Hoth.
@Zanderguard4 жыл бұрын
Simple. Intimidation. The slow steady advance of a walker combined with it's hulking size hammer home the fact this thing is on its way to literally crush you. The sound of the pneumatic / hydraulic systems moving the legs and the fall of each heavy foot step are akin to war drums of ancient armies and tribes as they advanced. The same can be said for the smaller ones too. You hear them before you see them, usually.
@Ifitmovesnukeit3 жыл бұрын
Much as I hate having to refer to the Sequel Trilogy as a source, the ability to disrupt repulsorlifts has been ported over into canon too, with the whole "jam their speeders" thing. It would appear that legged vehicles offer greater overall flexibility in where you can deploy them (hence the "All Terrain" thing) and an invulnerability to effects that can disrupt repulsorlifts, enough to compensate for the weaknesses.

But the fact we see the Star Destroyer just hovering in the atmosphere under the planets gravity means they can hover as high as they like, it seems? unless that Star Destroyer was actually using its engines to keep floating there (and so if they were turned off, the star destroyer would collapse onto the ground) - where as the speederbikes use some kind of neutral boyancy tanks (like a blimp has), that allow them to float without using any power at all. I guess that is why we see many crashed star destroyers; if the star destroyers had speeder-bike like neutral boyancy tanks (that allow them to float) then we should see numerous derilict, abandoned star destroyers from the war, but still floating in the sky rather than crashed. Kind of like the Prawn Mothership in District 9, that had some kind of neutral boyancy / antigravity system that functioned without power too - like a blimp - when it lost electrical power (and we know the prawn mothership had no power because the prawns were burning stuff in barrels inside the hold for light and warmth), it just carried on floating in the sky. If a blimp loses electrical power it still floats in the sky (granted it would get blown around a lot though)

Fobs are hinted at how they work in the very first episode and hinted at more later, though they're never explicitly explained, you can piece it together. They detect lifeforms. To use a fob the information for a target has to be input (race, age, sex, etc.). The location its self isn't something that can be input, which is why we see that information verbally told to those with fobs. The fob won't necessarily find its target, but it drastically narrows it down.
