Bill never seemed very patient about how he did things on the mandolin, he definitely was a style of his own and got the best tone from a mandolin I’ve ever heard. A true musical genius!

Never be another Bill Monroe. My uncle who was an accomplished fiddle player was a avid Monroe fan. He got me started with bluegrass before II started going to school. He'd come to visit with bluegrass records and his fiddle.

That was a religious experience. Listening to John Hartford talking to Bill Monroe. Damn.

I bought both of these VHS tapes when the first came out, 1992 I think it was. I studied them for hours.

Dont.tell him how to play..23.gib.loar is pretty loud enough..rj...he always play his notes clean rj
@spinblackcircles3 жыл бұрын
Monroe definitely does not always play his notes clean but it’s part of his style. I saw someone say he plays the mando ‘sassy’ which I think is a perfect way to describe it. He wasn’t about speed or hitting every note but he’s still recognized as one of the best to ever play a mandolin, like Jimi Hendrix with guitar.

If Bill Monroe was the first person I heard play the mandolin. I probably wouldn't have ever started playing. By today's standard he plays rushed and sloppy.

He's old as hell here. In his youth he was much better.

I am almost 70 now. I KNOW my playing at 30 was much smoother. Still going to play, until they pry my mandolin from my cold dead hands

If it wasn't for Bill Monroe, likely none of the mandolinists you know would be playing mandolin!

Can't say I like mandolin that well. The mandolin would be the first instrument to go if I had a group.

Merlyn Schutterle You should listen to a mandolin banjo, I heard one play live in Irish music sessions and it was stunning! :)

Sounds more like if You were in a Group, You'd be the First One to Go.
