Honestly it's a crime, like it should literally be a punishable offense that we will likely never get a proper sequel to this game. But that's okay -- Alien: Isolation can stand tall on its own forever as one of the best horror games ever made, and as one of the most lovingly-crafted homages to the original film.

literally the best movie-themed game i know. captures the whole vibe of the alien movies perfectly. i hope studios will make more good games based on movies as good as this. some 2001: a Space odyssey game or a jurassic park game could be amazing.
They would have to get the band back together,I doubt anyone from the original team is still at CA so it would have to be tackled by new people.

Alien: Isolation is not only one of the most intense survival horror games I’ve ever played, but it’s easily the best Alien game of all time. After the huge disappointment that was Colonial Marines and it’s dreadful plot that had Hadley’s Hope still alive and atrocious AI, Isolation chucks out pulse rifles and a swarm of Xeno’s for pant-wetting suspense and a real element of dread. I remember playing it for the very first time upon release in the dark with the sound turned up. There’s no better experience than having your palms sweat profusely when the tracker beeps and picks up the Xeno, or when you get an anxiety attack upon hearing it drop out of the vents. I slept with the light on for a week after the nest mission. It’s THAT terrifying. Even it’s homage to the 1979 masterpiece that is Alien deserves credit.
@GetToDaChoppa-k5r2 жыл бұрын
I loved Colonial Marines more than Isolation. While I love the movie Alien more than its sequel, I actually prefer that type of action in a game than sneaking around and hiding in lockers.
@Krieg-ch8ot3 ай бұрын
The sound of the Xeno coming out of the vent is ingrained in my mind as a oh shit sound. To the point I notice it when it's used in other alien projects. That's when you know sound design is on point when something like it leaving a vent gives you a form of video game PTSD.

I think because they went from Aliens Colonial Marines which is somewhat scary to Alien Isolation which is absolutely terrifying! Aliens Colonial Marines: there was no heart and soul put into that game VS. Alien Isolation: there was heart and soul when that game was made. The thing is anyone can easily play Aliens Colonial Marines but not everyone can play Alien Isolation. Not everyone can handle playing this game. I played up till the part where the Alien comes into play (in Medical) and stopped playing because I was absolutely scared of it!! It took me 6-8 months before I started playing it again. This really is an Awesome, Underrated , Best Survival Horror Game Ever made💯🖤👽

Finally played this after so many years in 2020 because it’s on Game Pass. Why’d I wait so long? Some unfair scores, like 5.9 from IGN. And the lingering stink from Colonial Marines. It’s amazing. Genuinely terrifying and stressful. Lighting and sound design are incredibly well done. Art direction shows so much love for Alien. Stands up 6 years later. Nice analysis.
@LexingtonDeville9844 жыл бұрын
banginlikea747 IGN are full of the brown stuff. As much as I love Aliens and it’s my favourite movie of all time, Colonial Marines was absolute rubbish. IGN gave 5.9 because there aren’t any army of Xeno’s to mow down with pulse rifles or smart guns or using loaders to fight the queen in a final boss battle. Isolation kerb stomps CM into dust every day of the week.

It was truly terrifying. That was until I learned how it worked, but those first 5-7 hours, where bone chilling

This is an excellent video essay. Intelligently written and very clearly delivered. I especially liked the long, lingering shots of the game's many beautiful interiors, and the fact you specifically mention that this was how we envisioned the future in 1979 - which was also the creative concept at Creative Assembly when putting this project together. Their mantra was that nothing that couldn't be created with the technology available to set designers at the time Scott made 'Alien' would be included in 'Isolation'. It was a design conceit that they pulled off with considerable aplomb. Thanks for this video.

One of the best details they add to the game is one of the worst feelings cause it works so well. The sound of the station, they use it in a way to manipulate you into thinking the alien is always near, like when you walk through a hall and a pipe combusts, hissing aggressively naturally making you think it could be the alien. Or the thumping of a large fan making you think it could have been the alien moving.
@julphines3 жыл бұрын
I watched a streamer play this and he was far more afraid of the Average Joes that the Alien and I honestly agree. The Alien you expect to be an enemy, it looks dangerous. The fact that Sevastopol has no outside help besides the Torrens, shows how helpless the survivors are. No one that's not on the station knows what's happening. Getting on-board the station shows that it's falling apart due to decommission and lack of maintenance. Hearing the word monster from Axel, shows that there's something deadly on it. You have no hope and feel isolated. Most of the survivors are hostile due to fear, the synthetics become hostile, and the alien. All adds fear and life to it. The station floats quietly in space while at the same time, tearing itself apart from inside. The moment Ripley gets aboard, she sees the damage more clearly. The station looses its orbital stabilizers and from there on out, the station is tearing itself apart faster due to the gravity of the gas giant. The survivors are isolated from humanity. The coms are down and they got lucky the Torrens was there but the ship couldn't do anything cause of the coms and the fact that everyone is against each other

Anyone watching this (this time, I watched it to the end) and having a lot of background knowledge of the game will agree with your essay of Alien Isolation. I like you mentioned Sevastopol much resembles a haunted house. As normally, you can exit this hell house and go outside; in this case, only void and space awaits. What peaks this whole point is that the communications system has been shut down too. It could simply be one station among many others peacefully floating from the outside while, on the contrary, muteless screams and vicious carnage mask the horrors hidden within this giant, spectacularly brought by the Xenomorph and, unwillingly, by the Working Joes as well. Furthermore, the death-masked androids always gave me a shivering, uneasy experience. Their emotionless and cruel behavior once a threat to the Alien has been located is enough to scare the crap out of a lot of players. For me, personally.. It's always been about how they stay calm and ask you to surrender. An invite proposed by them machines, yet they somehow know how death is cold just like their visage. Finally, the masterpiece himself, the Alien. All throughout the playthrough, it feels like there is only one of them chasing you. A fact that is solidified when it is jettisoned in the gas giant. Until the descent into the reactor happens and horror itself becomes this indescribable yet living sensation. This killing machine changing every conception and aspect of any situation when it exits the vents... is the best element to a survival horror game. You give the Alien so much respect while it doesn't give a damn about you. A well-spoken resume. Awesome job.

I have huge love for this game’s daring to go back to the elements that worked so well back in 1979. The Alien is again a stalker you cannot kill with a machine gun, but only scare away for a few minutes (or seconds). It makes you want to crouch with your flamethrower or Molotov ready instead of running and shooting from point A to point B. It’s a shame though that we will likely not see anything like it any time soon. I have hopes someday someone will realize the potential for at least a spiritual successor under the Alien IP.

This game is immersive to the point of suffocation. You're so absorbed in its world and so relentlessly hunted that achieving even one sub-objective feels like a great victory. The Alien aesthetic was so lovingly reproduced and expanded upon in every particular. The Alien's AI (especially in Nightmare mode) is so terrifying that this game made the creature just as terrifying as it must have been to moviegoers in 1979, if not moreso. Even if it has a few pacing issues and is a few hours too long, this is easily one of the greatest survival horror games ever made.

I'll stick my nose right in to also advertise other DLC's that are for the Survivor mode, which, being what they are - a set of arcade-y, difficult challenge maps where the devs were focused on exploring and experimenting with the level design and mechanics of their baby - are so much fun and are absolutely fantastic experiences that I recommend to anyone who didn't have enough of the gameplay. While they might be a tad bit overpriced, imo they are still severly underrated.

@@HypoZilla oh yeah, the finale of Safe Haven is some of the best this game can offer in entirety. Especially if you were going for the score, which meant minimizing saves, task N10 where you had to go in to both areas and complete tasks there with little resources and aggressive Alien was just nightmare. I only wish that Salvage Mode maps didn't de-spawn the enemies and entities like Human Survivors and Working Joes once you gone back the Safe Room and chose a new task, because if you left some alive it doesn't matter as the game just takes them away from the area and the next task. It would have added more decision making and strategizing aspects to objectives, where you had to think whether you should waste more resources and kill all the enemies in the area so that they don't become a nuisance later on, or save up for later, or hell, find a way to get rid of the enemies cheaply.
