I think people miss an aspect of Joseph’s maturity, which would be the lessons he learned from Caesar. In Battle Tendency, one common argument that both Joseph and Caesar couldn’t agree on was that the fight against the Pillar Men was a destiny predetermined at birth for revenge against the mask. Caesar believed in his heart that everything that led him to that point was because of fate, and Joseph thought the idea of fighting for dead people was foolish and reckless, despite familial bonds, which resulted in Caesar leaving by himself to face Wamuu and ultimately dying in the process. Knowing how family oriented Caesar was, I think that was the main inspiration for Joseph traveling to Japan to meet Jotaro. Remember, the fight against DIO was a fight that Jonathan didn’t finish, exactly like how the fight against the Stone Mask was a fight the Zeppelis before Caesar also didn’t finish. Joseph even says to DIO in Stardust Crusaders that he would “take that body back” for his grandmother Erina. That’s something BT Joseph would never say. One more thing, when DIO stole Joseph’s blood and he was presumed dead with his spirit rising, he told Jotaro not to lose his cool. Something Caesar did that got him killed.

Joseph Joestar is my all time favorite anime/manga protagonist. He's one of the best executed and overall entertaining characters I've ever seen. Joseph is special because he ticks every box to make an all-time great character. Backstory, growth, depth, relatability and entertainment value. This was a fine video but it doesn't nearly describe Joseph as well as it could, especially young Joseph. His backstory is great in the fact that you can see how it molded Joseph, he grew up told both of his parents were dead, that they died in an accident.. he didn't have actual parents to raise him only his grandmother and speedwagon. Just off the of that you can see why Joseph became who he was, a thug, a loner and someone who has a kind heart but can come off as selfish. What makes Joseph so relatable is the fact that he has that sense of humor, he's not perfect as a person and he's usually the underdog in every single one of his fights but he has an undeniable will to never give up. That's something that not only inspires us but we can relate to it as well. His entertainment value goes without speaking, there isn't a single thing he does that's dull. Everything he does commands the attention and is either gonna give you a laugh, smile or jaw dropping moment. His charisma as a character is off the charts. His growth as a character is some of the best written in JoJo, because Joseph isn't just a character who grew as a fighter like most of the other JoJo's he grew as a person. Joseph had a selfish exterior, he was a loner, he cared for others at times but in the start all his main focus was himself, erina & speedwagon that's it. Insert Caesar zeppeli, who despite seeming opposites they're very similar. When the pillar men arose they killed mark (Caesar's friend) that moment and pose followed was a growing point for those two because Joseph could sympathize with Caesar losing someone very close to him. Then Caesar gains the ultimate respect for Joseph after the show he put on of getting his way out of fighting wammu. Caesar was the person who helped Joseph realize, Joseph is fighting for more than just himself, erina & speeds. Joseph is fighting for the sake of humanity, Joseph is fighting for everyone around him. Joseph was no longer a loner, he had someone who wasn't a parental figure to be around. That's why Caesar's death hit Joseph so hard. That let Joseph know, he's not a loner anymore, he can't be selfish anymore. That's excellent character growth from someone who started out really only caring for himself and those close to him to now someone who's willing to sacrifice his life just to save humanity. Through a common goal, Joseph was able to develop from a selfish loner and fully flesh out his willingness and kind-heartedness. When Joseph is falling down on the giant rock, he's at peace because he's grown, he saved what's most important and that wasn't himself it was everyone. That's some of the best character growth I've ever seen. It's also worth noting that out of all the JoJo's up until part 7 his character shows the most arc, growth and development. Easily the best JoJo to me, and one of the best anime protagonist ever.

In my headcannon, the whole senile thing is just an act. He does it to show his soft side to Josuke so that his son will accept him. He acts with widely varying degrees of senility, sometimes barely being able to function but other times making split-second decisions with perfect clarity. It's really painful for him to say he 'understands' when Josuke refuses to call him father because probably when he 'met' his mother at 19 he also had the same reaction. He really understands. IMO, after watching Stardust Crusaders and thinking about some of the stands Joseph had on a narrative level, they look symbolic of Joseph confronting his aging and the worries/issues that comes with it. For example, when he was fighting the Empress stand, it could be something akin to the fears of his body deteriorating and turning against him in a dire situation. The same could be said for the episode where the Lovers stand was the next antagonist, except instead of his body being in trouble it was his mind. ...Yeah I might be interpreting something deeper than it really is, but that might just be me entering literature nerd territory. :B

Not everyone, only Jolyne and Jotaro, altho Jotaro prob kept his name since he already had his bizarre adventure (fighting DIO and going to Morioh to help Josuke) while Jolyne never had her's, after Pucci's death, part 6 basically never happend. So Jotaro most likely kept his original name, while only Jolyne had her name changed to Irene Kujo, and Araki also made a reference to one of his old works, Gorgeous Irene.

I think Kars philosophy is that he respects those he believes to be on equal footing to him, or better than him. He knows humans are lower than him and so he doesn’t care about them. He respects plants and animals because he believes they are equal to him.
