Mainstream vouchers - Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8 Voucher) assist non-elderly persons with disabilities. Aside from serving a special population, Mainstream vouchers are administered using the same rules as other housing choice vouchers. +
Project-based vouchers (PBVs) are a component of a public housing agency’s (PHA’s) Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program. PHAs are not allocated additional funding for PBV units; the PHA uses its tenant-based voucher funding to allocate project-based units to a project.
Section 42 Housing know as low-income housing, affordable housing, subsidized housing, tenant based housing or Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC). Section 42 is a section of the Internal Revenue Service tax code. It provides a low-income housing tax credit for “investment in certain low-income housing buildings.”
Section 811 Through the Section 811 Supportive Housing for Persons with Disabilities program, HUD provides funding to develop and subsidize rental housing with the availability of supportive services for very low- and extremely low-income adults with disabilities. The Section 811
SECTION 202 Supportive housing for the elderly. HUD provides capital advances to finance the construction, rehabilitation or acquisition with or without rehabilitation of structures that will serve as supportive housing for very low-income elderly persons, including the frail elderly.,
HUD-VASH is a collaborative program which pairs HUD’s Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) rental assistance with VA case management and supportive services for homeless Veterans.
VAWA Resource for Multifamily Assisted Housing. HUD’s regulation applies to all multifamily assisted housing properties, including those with project-based Section 8, Section 202 and 811 supportive housing for the elderly and people with disabilities; Section 236 and 221(d)(3) below market and reduced interest rate programs; and the Section 811 Project Rental Assistance grant program.
HOPWA known also as Ryan White Program. The Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) Program is the only Federal program dedicated to the housing needs of people living with HIV Under the HOPWA Program
Continuum of Care known as “Housing first” The Continuum of Care (CoC) Program is designed to promote communitywide commitment to the goal of ending homelessness; provide funding for efforts by nonprofit providers, and State and local governments to quickly rehouse homeless individuals and families.
The Emergency Housing Voucher (EHV) program is available through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). Through EHV, HUD is providing 70,000 housing choice vouchers to local Public Housing Authorities (PHAs) in order to assist individuals and families who are homeless, at-risk of homelessness, fleeing, or attempting to flee, domestic issues, or were recently homeless or have a high risk of housing instability.
Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) is permanent housing in which housing assistance (e.g., long-term leasing or rental assistance) and supportive services are provided to assist households with at least one member (adult or child) with a disability in achieving housing stability.
Rapid re-housing (RRH) provides short-term rental assistance and services.
Special Purpose Vouchers (SPVs) are specifically provided for by Congress in line-item appropriations which distinguish them from regular vouchers. assistance for homeless veterans with case management and clinical services provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs at its medical centers and in the community.
Moving to Work Demonstration Program. Moving to Work (MTW) is a demonstration program for public housing authorities (PHAs) that provides them the opportunity to design and test innovative, locally designed strategies.
The Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) homeownership program allows families that are assisted under the HCV program to use their voucher to buy a home and receive monthly assistance in meeting homeownership expenses.
Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) is a HUD program that provides incentives and supports to help families living in multifamily assisted housing to increase their earned income and reduce their dependence on public assistance programs.
Foster Youth to Independence (FYI) Initiative provides housing assistance and supportive services to young people with a child welfare history who are at-risk-of or experiencing homelessness.

Isn't FSS good for grands raising grands who are trying to raise cash for school, transportation, etc.? Or what other type of vouchers would be beneficial to families with college kids?
