This was my first Volta show too. Amazing understates the experience. I just saw them again for the first time since (2023) It's a different show now, there's no improvisations at all, but the overall production is better. They played songs they haven't in almost 20years it was awesome. But this lineup is never going to be topped imo.
@jeffernoodle86528 ай бұрын
@@deadbeats4894 it's such a shame that they had to cut it short. Me and the 2 guys I was there with were the very last ones to walk away. I was tripping so hard that I didn't want to move so we just stood there staring at the stage for what seemed like forever. Nobody was left when I finally looked around. I also remember the buildup before they started. One guy yelled " Just come on already!" And immediately looked like he regretted it lmao. Everyone turned to look at him and I think he was having a bad trip

As an eighteen-year-old I saw them the same year but in Stockholm and I stood just in front of Omar; I could touch his feet if it weren’t for the pedalboards. I was lucky enough to get myself lost just before the show and accidentally walked into Cedric. We had a short conversation about his tattoos, and something on my own project at the time performing live music to films (I was kind of stars struck because they were my idols). He couldn’t have been more cordial but security cut us of. Because of the setlist, Cedric’s voice, Omar’s presence with his use of his pedals and stacks, and Jon on the drums they were at their peek here. Everything contributed to the magic of Mars Volta. I saw them 3 times after but nothing came close to that night. Thanks for the upload!
@yanmak23633 жыл бұрын
Yeah I was 18 and saw them during Francis the mute era', Big day out Australia. I vividly remember Henry Rollins doing his spoken word gig, then the mars Volta came on, the opening song was Cygnus. Crazy wacky time signatures, I remember being in awe of Jon Theodore's powerful and athletic drumming. Ikey Owens facial expressions on the keyboard, really into his instrument. The whole band had a chemistry I've never seen before. Or since. So glad we got to see them at this time.

"How do you hide money from Omar? You put it under the soap." Apparently Omar hated bathing and had a reputation for smelling bad even back in the ATDI days. That's what Cedric is referring to.

@@vvvvaaaacccc Really?? Never knew that. Would you happen to recall the source?
@vvvvaaaacccc3 жыл бұрын
@@williamepperson3443 yup, i have a decent archive of TMV-related interviews. here's Cedric speaking on his looks and style: "Lets see as far as a look is concerned Omar and I have always had an eye for what we consider a uniform that can be worn everyday. In At The Drive In what we wore stayed on our backs for months at a time. This was due to being practical and on the go. We were sleeping in the same clothes we played in…with our shoes on. There were moments around 1995 when certain members of At The Drive In used to lock Omar in the bathroom and force him to shower and change his clothes. This never worked because Omar would just turn the water on and sit there. Apart from his fear of water…there was also a certain superstition of keeping your lucky socks, shoes and shirt on, so that everyday would be a good show. That superstition still remains." thepopulation.wordpress.com/2009/04/05/cedric-bixler-of-the-mars-volta-substance-of-style/
