No joke, even though I didn’t grow up that much with Goosebumps, this episode did creep me out when I saw it a couple of years ago. The idea of having that face for the rest of your life is scary. I can see why it’s so iconic. Also, I call BS on those boys teasing Carly Beth because they like her. They made her eat a worm for Pete’s sake.

As a kid, Slappy scared me more than the Haunted Mask. Also, the friend's cat costume was a Catwoman costume in the book. It's amazing what you get away with in writing than what you can on-screen.

I think at least part of the reason the episode is so good is because it's the series premiere so they had to start strong. As for my favourite episode, it's a four-way tie between Shocker on Shock Street, One Day At Horrorland, A Night in Terror Tower, and Haunted Mask 2.

I am a giant Haunted Mask fan...probably to a weird degree when I think about it? Either way, that face haunts my dreams to this day and I'm 29! I watch loads of horror movies (the really, really crazy ones) and none of them get to me, but this Goosebumps episode from 1995 absolutely paralyzes me. If I could meet one person, I think it would be Kathryn Long. I just have so many questions... Edit: I thought your comment on the cat costume was amusing. She looks like either Worker or Parasite from The Simpsons
@AveryTalksAboutStuff Жыл бұрын
Haunted mask is just genuinely good. We recently read the book on live stream and the line, "I'm supposed to be me, but I'm not" still gives me actual goosebumps. So when I was growing up, the schools would make us read these books I assume they thought were edifying, which usually boiled down to stories of Frontier children suffering terrible hardships and tragedies. And based on those wretched things, I thought I didn't like reading. Then I showed an interest in some crazy looking book cover on the grocery store shelves, and my mom bought it for me. I finished it in a couple of hours, and was a changed person. I discovered I loved books, with the exception of those from the Tragic Frontier Child genre. Oh, and I forgot to mention- that book? Gravity's Rainbow, by Thomas Pynchon. Just kidding, it was One Day at HorrorLand by RL Stine!

I always imagine it's him and his roommate ordering take out lmao "you don't order one you order TWO!!" Also that scene with the little girl getting told to watch what she says and then threatening her mom was one of the most uncomfortable things I had to watch in recent media that wasnt lewd and or graphic. Just deeply disturbing and unnecessary. When I rewatched it again with some close buds the next day I had to divert my eyes because jus hearing the actress sell it so well induces chills and unease like you wouldn't believe... Did she ever call the cops I wonder?

@@xthatxdetroitxgaymerx6108 No worries! I've been there with wisdom teeth and I know it's awful. I think it's definitely possible that he was inspired by Lovecraft.
