One of my favorite things about this scene is how upset Neo is at Morpheus's disappointed look when he takes the offer to sit. You'll notice that later when the Oracle is talking to him, she says that she'd offer him a seat, but he won't take it. I despise the people who have used the terms "red pill" and "blue pill" to push their own politically-motivated agendas. It is completely counter-intuitive to the theme of this scene. The point of taking the "red pill" is not to push one particular ideology or way of thinking as being the absolute truth, but rather to push you to question what you believe you know. Regardless of whether you're a liberal or a conservative, a Christian, Muslim, Jew, or atheist or black, white, Asian, or any other possible demographic, you should always question the preconceived views you have. Not because there is an inherently correct view-point to be found, but rather the opposite: because there is none. All any view-point or ideology exists to do is accomplish a particular function. Its effectiveness or even whether it's a function you want to see occur is all up for debate because humans are all fundamentally unique beings with a different outlook on what reality is and what it should be - all things are relative, and in knowing this you are able to form an approach built upon mutual understanding rather than one-sided declarations of truth. A perfect one? No, but perhaps one that is more considerate of the general welfare of all people. Furthermore, in my experience, it is people who try to declare their beliefs and opinions as being the absolute unquestionable truths (like those who use a philosophical allegory to perpetuate their opinions) that are generally the most unwilling to listen to dissenting view-points.

The most salient point of this movie/series is that it points out the fact that most people would rather bury their heads in the sand than encounter painful truths. The tiny proportion of people whose minds are able to be freed from the matrix because of how much they value truth and free will is probably a good approximation for that percentage of people in real life. I was born on the blue pill. Living happily in the matrix and everything was nice and beautiful. But the world tried to wake me up and tell me the harsh truth. Unfortunately, nobody listened to me and I was powerless. And then I realized that justice does not exist and never will be, because justice for one man is a crime for another. So I started to hate the world. I hated every single human being and I thought their pain was my pleasure. But that hate gave me nothing but suffering. The truth gave me only anger, hate and pain. I realized how miserable I've become and that ignorance was a bliss and there was only one way out. So I took the blue pill and I finally remembered how good it was to not give a fuck about anything. Because the less you care, the happier you become. But I knew people will hate me for not caring, so now I do care a bit (to keep the balance), but I only care about people who are close to me: my friends, my family and their friends and family. Never care about total strangers that have nothing to do with my life. My trust, respect and empathy is earned with time, once I get to know the person, but not immediately.
