I still remember playing Assassin's Creed Black Flag on the TV and a friend of my mom walked up behind me during an in-game cutscene and asked "what movie is this?" thinking we were watching a film with live actors. It really made me think about how one's perception of reality differs between individuals. Maybe we will never be able to reach a perfect visual replication of reality simply because how we differentiate between reality and simulation will adapt accordingly. So I actually have a friend who works for Epic Games who is the company that produced this demo. First, he said he's not aware of any actual Matrix game being developed anytime soon. He actually modeled some of the guns used in this demo. As far as he's aware this was just a cross-promotion for Resurrections unfortunately so Lyle was correct. Second, apparently, Nanite is still really wonky in use with dynamic terrain in the engine. It's really difficult for the A.I. processing all of the tri's to render a dynamic object ESPECIALLY if it's deformable. You could see this in action when they were in the overview above the city. Some of the tri's would change shape in response to the position from the camera. From what I was told the Nanite mesh works the best with things like buildings since they don't break or deform much. Hopefully, as the technology adapts we can see this on more movable objects rather than just terrain. That's why character models and some of the cars aren't hyper-realistic. They are just too dynamic for the Nanite engine to handle.

Also, for the intro being way more realistic, it's possible they were just using much more detailed models, a lot of games do that for cutscenes (which is why seeing clones is a pretty common occurrence when using free-cam tools and sometimes in widescreen remasters of 4:3 games, as the lower poly model is often just placed out of view during in-game cutscenes).
