Agreed - should've made 2 or 3 movies with more depth instead of 1 with a bunch of stuff all at once. Like intro the new Smith and keep the "bullet time" scene, add more Bugs origin story, explain Zion aftermath from Revolutions and then bring Smith back for the main villain in the 2nd or 3rd like the OG trilogy. The analyst is so similar to the architect but the architect was never the main baddie in the OG, it was Smith. More Smith please! "ME ME, ME! ME TOO!"

I won’t argue the original smith was better since it was the matrix itself coming at neo trying to stop him. The Analyst has Neo, Trinity and thus everyone trapped in this loop, of trying to get back to how things were in the original. Which is an impossible goal. When Neo is awakened, he keeps commenting on all the ways things have changed. When they learn to accept the changes others have made to the narrative Neo & Trinity are able to truly free themselves, and start writing a new reality, where the sky is painted with rainbows, or whatever else they can imagine. Wasn’t as bad as people made it out to be. I agree with the lack of innovation as you mentioned. I think that’s because of the lack of the other warchowski sisters involvement. The cinematography looked like a bland miniseries version on a streaming service and tbh it could’ve served better as one. That way would’ve gotten a little more storyline as to how things have changed over the decades and probably wouldn’t have needed as much flashback scenes. Even the fight choreography was on par with how tv series fights are choreographed. So I guess we can say it was a letdown as a full feature length film. I would’ve been a little more satisfied with more storyline with dumbed down quality. This new version could almost have the same problem as the alien franchise where after the original trilogy they tried to keep the franchise alive with sub par sequels in which a couple of them were decent. Matrix 4 was kind of not a miss for me but I could be for someone else. Overall I liked it and will watch it again to catch the details I missed the first time.

Actually a part of Neo and Trinity's dialogue at the coffeehouse kinda related the pain of the directors' views. This installment needs repeated views to catch that but like most fans/viewers mentioned, they focused too much on the flashbacks to tell what's coming next. That somewhat makes the movie displeasing/less enjoyable but also a weird sense of humor (mostly from Smith's scenes with Neo) Moving forward, I still look forward to another installment of this Matrix movie but hopefully, they can really tie it down this round and not let it be a tragedy like what Star Wars 1~9 had.

Actually, it was quite the opposite. The movie was a big "fuck you" to three main groups: The first is to people who promise or profess to be allied with freedom and truth but in reality are deceitful authoritarians - the Analyst is the most obvious manifestation of this, but the whole use of the redpill/bluepill imagery was also a big middle finger to the so-called "redpill" movement - specifically, the very strong and obvious message in there that redpilling does not mean indoctrinating someone with your own inbred, tired-out political ideology, but rather actually encouraging people to open themselves up to the human condition, which may mean (in fact, will hopefully mean) that other person embracing other thoughts and feelings than you as they disentangle their worldview from toxic hivemind ideologies. The second is to the pseudointellectual pop culture cabal of KZbinrati and other online "pop culture journalists" who claim to endorse originality and creativity, but ultimately succumb to their own obsessions with nostalgia and past glories and become lost in their own contradictions, demanding both fidelity to source material and originality, demanding creative independence while expecting the end product to be tailored to their expectations, seeing absurd meanings in superficial pop culture works and deriving ridiculous fan theories and believing themselves to be intellectually superior as a result. And the third is simply to Warner Bros. themselves - this film was basically just one big career suicide note by Lana, deliberately so, about how fucked off she is about how Warner (and probably other studios too) have enslaved people to franchise addiction and badgered her and her sister to the point of madness to make a new Matrix movie under threat of having someone else do it. If you know the production background, the parallels are evident.
@mediummusic68172 жыл бұрын
@@jamyskis thats an interesting interpretation, I got none of that from this movie apart from the warner bros bit. This was very clearly taking a shot at the fuckwits walking around following rules without having done any meaningful research thinking that "science" is a thing you can trust, it isn't, it is a mode of thought and that's it. Hence the evident use of cult like behaviors to enforce trust and compliance. AND the movie was showing how the machines took reality and made it into a game, further reinforcing how crazy you must be to think that happens in our world. A whole cinema of people idolizing neo and trinity but when it comes down to it they're nothing but background noise just doing what they're "programmed" by authority to do.. and they know it, I'm one of them, I put on my mask and go do my job like a good little dog.
@jamyskis2 жыл бұрын
@@mediummusic6817 This is pretty much it. A lot of people give up one cult just to follow another ("sheeple" as the Analyst put it). They seek refuge in ideology and nostalgia to avoid having to innovate, critique and think independently. They see phenomena such as social media as an ersatz solution for critical thought, and selectively believe what they want to believe because every bullshit brainfart is represented on there. A lot of so-called "redpill" movements don't give you a choice - they just put the proverbial red pill in front of people and pressure them into uncritically swallowing it, either by playing into their worst fears by laying out nightmarish scenarios in front of them, or by humiliating them into submission. Fearful people make for productive drones. "Free your mind by following us without question" is basically their motto. The absurd irony should be apparent. "Avoid MSM." "Follow the science." "Jews/Soros manipulated it." There's always bullshit, and there's always the scapegoat to enable the cult to transition to the next bullshit when the last bullshit is exposed for what it is. To be fair, Resurrections doesn't go too deeply into the actual symbolism of the blue pill/red pill imagery. It just exists to skewer those who read far too much into it and those who wilfully twist and distort the basic simple meaning of the analogy: truth is absolute. Take whatever part of that truth is important to you, shape your life around it, and draw your own conclusions from it. You only start becoming the villain of the piece when you start wilfully misrepresenting that truth to others.

Yeah you didn't get the movie at all. It wasn't "paying homage to the past." It was showing the extent to which the Machines went to neutralize him. The new iteration of the matrix is the only way you could bring Neo and Trinity back into the plot without it being dumb. You can't conceal the events of the original trilogy and expect Neo and Trinity to just forget about the past. No, it makes much more sense to flaunt the past, mock it and to basically gaslight Neo continuously. At the same time, they kept Trinity close enough to him so that, subconsciously, it gave him sufficient comfort and satisfaction to keep him docile. If she was further away, he wouldn't be happy enough to make it work (would quickly fight to escape) and, conversely, if they were too close, they wouldn't be able to be controlled. And, of course, the whole thing is managed directly by the new architect (Analyst) rather than by a detached, overly robotic one.

@@StevenJScharf People have such a superficial misunderstanding of this movie. Some are complaining that the alliance with the machines is arbitrary and ridiculous. That just shows that they never understood the original plot and didn't watch the Animatrix, which gave the historical context. The Machines did not want war with humans. It was the humans that continuously betrayed the Machines and broke peace agreements. The matrix was the product of the Machines losing all hope in humanity. Neo's actions and sacrifice in the original trilogy gave machines hope again that there could be peace with humans. In this way, Neo has become, not only the savior of humans, but of machines as well. It also adds a level of depth to the machines that was missing in the original trilogy because of the war (machines depicted as cold, killbots). It also moves the storyline forward and the resolution is clearer now - peace between humans and the machines is possible. The whole movie is saturated with depth. It's too bad people are missing it.

Had to Google what Twin Flame was. Opened my eyes to a new school of thought. Appreciate it and I agree with ya. Falls in line with what Lana Wachowski would be going for. Sense8 was a perfect example of it. It all felt like it had a deeper meaning. I connected with it. Most won't. Not sure if it's because some are opened to it and others are closed off. Or if it's all just bs. I know I click with certain people instantly so this has to mean something

@UCX08Es_yZ0w4MMLhJD8l4Xg it’s “consciousness” and it’s ahead of it’s time because practically no-one is understanding the underlying message, every one is trying to compare this one to the first movie. -It’s ahead of it’s time because even though it’s an “older idea” it does not mean that you or I or many others have attained that level of consciousness -No-one believed in twin flames until a celebrity couple attained it which was at most 2 years ago, the majority of twin flames on this specific spiritual path have been continuously called crazy. -And the matrix is actually a real thing, the higher the conscious the more you experience similar situations as in the 1st movie

I feel like so many people missed the point of this movie. It is not a sequel to the Matrix but a message to WB. So many scenes represent WB talking to Lana Wachowski. How "Smith" says this project will be done with or without you. How the characters keep referencing how they haven't been given a choice. Similar to how Lana was essentially put between a rock and a hard place because she would either have to give her characters, "her children" to some soulless money making machine or be forced to make a sequel to a story that had already been properly concluded. A bunch of meetings most likely took place about what was expected to be in the matrix sequel, mirrored by the actual meetings in the movie; after Lana was essentially forced to be a part of it all. However if she was gonna be a part of it, then she was gonna make sure that above all else, her "children" were saved. All the things in the meeting that were discussed they were gonna make in the movie,so that her true message could go unnoticed by the old farts demanding a sequel. The ending of the film, having both Trinity and Neo being completely overpowered, essentially places any future writer in a hole that is impossible to escape. The ending scene where they talk about rainbows, is saying to WB, create a new world with new characters and lore, and stop trying to resurrect old franchises. It's a subtle and yet not so subtle message, that says yeah a lot of "sheeple" will be swayed by money to revive their old franchises and if becoming one with the soulless machine makes them happy more power to them, but Lana Wachowki ain't one of em.

I liked the matrix 4 but definitely sat there with other people in the theater going... "thats it". Good nostalgia for sure this is pretty much a call to SW: The Force Awakens with some much nostalgia.

Its rare to get a movie like this, I love it for what it is. It was awesome, just appreciating the cleverness of it all. Easter egg for you, The red pill concept was adopted by misogynist men then the republican party. The writers of the matrix hate that and in this movie the analyst is a misogynist, trinity is the one... Its an awesome easter egg if you notice it.
@sprinkle612 жыл бұрын
Red pill concept has been adopted by everyone, since most people are dissatisfied with modern life, even though life in the west is pretty much as good as it has ever been. There is no reason to give the red pill concept to men or republicans.

@@sprinkle61 Ok, I get your point but it doesn't change the fact that what I said is true. If you dont understand what Im talking about search "Matrix director hits Elon Ivanka Trump 'red pill' tweet" or something like that.
@sprinkle612 жыл бұрын
@@PeterMilko OK, so that tweet explains the situation. The director is upset that certain groups are using the term. It looks like a news story from 2020. The thing is, when you make a piece of pop culture, you don't really own the concepts in it, once its out in the wild, so its kind of silly to get upset if you have fans you don't like.
@PeterMilko2 жыл бұрын
@@sprinkle61You can be proud and take ownership of an idea. So of course you would want to make sure it's not misunderstood or misused in a way to take away from what it meant. It makes sense to be frustrated about "red pill" being used in negative ways. Like to glorify misogyny.

First impression: It was like getting together with an old college roommate after 20-years. You feel that buzz of excitement when you first see each other. Then, you reminisce, share some laughs, and perhaps some tears over those who have passed. You might even party together that night. However, the chemistry is off, and though it was nice for a night, you realize this will likely be the last time you see each other. I guess they could do a spinoff with Bugs and her crew, but why? Let this be the epitaph.

I love the Matrix trilogy. And rewatched them all in the lead up to this release. I can see why they would put a lot of “clips” or flashbacks in probably mostly for new viewers who might not be as familiar with the story. But found the first act was a lot of “catch up” and explanation. It was fun to notice all the Easter eggs tho. Act II and III were quite good. Definitely gonna watch it a few more times on HBO MAX

I thought it was ok. Seeing a Matrix movie where we get to see what a new simulation would be like is interesting. I just wish they displayed that more. Instead of saying it. Would have been really cool to see the Analyst toy with the humans in the matrix to prove his point. Did Neo create a matrix within his video game to create Morpheus? Also I didnt really understand why they resurrected neo and trinity. Why did the matrix simulation need them? So neo was or is the one right, so was he able to reconstruct the matrix simulations however he wanted? Or can both neo and trinity do that because of the machines recreating them using machines parts or whatever. How did they get the code to be gods? Also when one jacks out of the matrix does their avatar vanish too...i guess so right.. I did like how some machines decided to work with the humans. I really liked how programs from the matrix were able to be visualized in real life. thats a really cool idea.
@Kharmatos132 жыл бұрын
neo and trinity are explained. them just a bit a part maximizes the power output the machines need. so having them need each other or fight for each other without destroying the system jacks up the Analysts numbers.

I disagree with your final thoughts. I don’t know why some people complain about this movie, this was far beyond our expectations when it comes to story, action and graphics. If you expected it to be like the first Matrix then go watch the first Matrix then.
@BrianHartman2 жыл бұрын
I liked the first third. For me, it started to go downhill when it became clear that the whole thing was just turning Trinity into a damsel in distress who had to be rescued. And then to top it off, they didn't even escape the Matrix. They chose illusion over the real world (if there even is a real world).

I agree, watching this movie twice cemented my views. I think the movie is a great continuation of the franchise. I enjoyed watching the original characters, and found the new actors very engaging. As before, I enjoyed the social commentary and views expressed in the movie. Thank you for providing an articulate and well rounded review of the movie. I too agree the movie will become a cult classic upon repeat viewings.

This was the best review so far, since its well balanced and summed up perfectly. You actually lightened my negative impressions of the movie, but it is a bad movie. If anything this should have been a movie about Bugs being a freedom fighter.

This movie has three parts: meta movie, Bugs and other new characters, and finally Neo and Trinity being the ones. They should've chosen just one of them.

Trinity having the powers of the One makes no sense at all. It's contrary to established canon of the original trilogy.
