Yeh, it's curious how 2 people with great vision for all the different dimensions that add up to make the first masterpiece , don't see the opposites in this. Or maybe they do , but now there's a lack of care / inspiration compared with back then? (hit the highest level , but stuck with same field instead of evolving to master a new inspiration? but that doesn't always apply e.g ridley Scott still got it after all this time) Plus it says something about how much of a team project great films are , with all the creative departments

They never wanted to do a 4th movie but WB insisted on it being made, to the point they said it was going to be made with or without them, so Lana finally relented but decided to use it as an opportunity. The trilogy was an allegory, and the 4th was made to be one about the development of the movie itself and the common forced bastardization of already completed works to be remade, either literally or in spirit with a sequel, just to make more of a profit.

I think the problem here the lack of Yuen Woo-ping as fight/action choreographor. Why they didn't bring him back is anyone's guess but the beauty of The Matrix's fight scenes were pretty much a result of him. It's the same as why the light saber duels lack the grace, finesse and excitement they had in the Prequel trilogy...without Nick Gillard there to direct choreography, everyone is just forcefully swinging the light sabers around with no grace or beauty.

Well they did what most of directors tried … create a master piece. This is more than many of the directors did. Master piece justa happens one/two times. Directors with great movies like Blade Runner, Exorcist usually have the master piece and thrn other movies that are great, good or bad. But not the master piece.

Long story short, the video game is the explanation the machines use to make Neo and Trinity think the events of the first 3 films never happened. However this agent Neo secretly programmed to have Morpheus's personality in case the day his suspicion about his life not being real ever comes true. The characters from this movie had to go into Neo's video game, flip the switch to bring out the Morpheus personality then they went to wake up Neo.
