Thanks for sharing this, Arith. Your first tattoo resonates - on the one hand because I am going through difficult times myself, on the other because I also carry a sequence: Hagalaz, Isa, Laguz, Berkana and Dagaz. This basically is the sequence of disaster leading to a new beginning - the storm cannot be avoided, the suffering we experience leaves us frozen until time (or "fate", as some like to call it) brings about the melting of the ice, turning it into water - which in return soaks the lands, makes them fertile and enables seeds to sprout. This force of fertility always marks the beginning of a new dawn. Helps me cope with the horrors I had to experience in my past and the pain inflicted on me. That pain and horror seems to be similar to yours in a way, I can very much relate to what you say about not expecting to reach a certain age. I am just glad you are still around, too. :) ATB Ralf

Thank you very much for sharing a little bit of your life and the meaning of your tattoo ^^ Life is never without struggles, and when we are inserted in violent environments it's always hard to get out of that mentality. Sadly, a mentality that ends up shaping our personality for years to come, and then it's a whole other struggle to try to go against this rooted nature that has become the foundations of our own existence. It's tiring. I respect people who are always trying to become a better version than their previous selves and are aware of the harm and damage they can create but struggle to fight it and to change their nature. I'm happy to be here and I'm glad you are here too. Thank you friend. Perhaps the struggle will never come to an end, but it's worth it :)

Being a tattooed person myself, I’m also interested to know what others have got on their bodies. I’m more interested to learn what their tattoos mean. I myself believe that tattoos must truly mean something to their owners. It’s a spiritual thing. I found this video both interesting and entertaining. I also feel a little more interested in you. I also have old scars and I think every scar is in itself a story waiting to be told. I hope one day you may share those stories. Today I thank you most sincerely for sharing your wonderful tattoos, Thank You.

I don’t know if tattoos must mean something. To me the story behind the tattoo means more. I’m talking about what happened to make you get it, how you ended up getting it.. stuff like that. Of course the meaning of the tattoo itself is kind of cool though

The spiritual essence of a peoples cannot reflect a current state or government so with that being said the Chinese peoples long written history of 5 thousand years + caught my eye long before my own heritage (Norwegian). I have taken the spiritual symbol of the 5 toed Emperor Dragon on my left upper arm, (energeticall receptor), and have it protecting the Pearl of Wisdon with it's clouded Vail. On the right upper arm I have the lesser 4 toed Chinese dragon in skeleton that embodies strength and existence after this mortal vehicle has expired, (the right arm is the energeticall release).

It’s not what happens to you but how you react and deal with these things both good and bad that makes you who you are. Personally I went from being relatively well to disabled in a short period of time. No one expects to wake up I’ll and never get better, but I now understand myself better than at any time in my life. Facing death tends to put things in better perspective. My dear Arith, your outlook on things and your selflessness in sharing your extensive knowledge makes me believe that you are a fine and genuine individual. I wish that one day we could raise our glasses together and solve the worlds problems over a beer. Sköl!

Indeed, perhaps there's nothing quite like the prospect of imminent death to change our perspective of life. Although, to be perfectly honest here, my mind back then was always ready to welcome death (not so much these days, of course, as I have found joy in life). There was another event, not related to death, that changed my perception of life and the sacredness of it. I did volunteer work in an institution for physically and mentally challenged people, I'm not going into details, but that was the first big step into being more aware of life and respecting it, and the great gift that it is. Thank you so much for your words my friend. Glad you are around. Stay safe and well! :) Cheers!

Sometimes we can look back and find reasons for happiness in the strangest corners of our psyche. Just this morning I asked what the meaning of my birth injury was. At birth the doctors used an instrument that dented my face and pushed my nose agaist my face. It has caused 2 problems for me through my life. One is a sinus problem and the other is that during my childhood I was, in my own mind and others, considered “not a pretty girl” ….When I pulled tarot cards on the issue this morning, they all spoke of goodness and offerings of love - all of them cups. I was surprised and puzzled. Then I realised that the injury was actually a blessing when I thought of all that I had learned and how it was actually beneficial. I think it has given me compassion for others as well as the ability to overcome serious difficulties. It is not the only reason for this but that is what today has revealed to me. Thank you for your openness. 💛

Thank you for sharing your understanding and meaning of some of your tattoos. And I want to say how refreshing it is to have you so open on these three clearly very important personal markings you placed on your body. You hint of scars, which are usually caused by something unwanted, some kind of aggression you would have wanted to not necessarily experience, but the representation, the scar, may have taken on meaning for you other than bodily damage. If you would have actively have them acheived, then I feel you would have talked differently about these and used different terms, like scarification. I'm sorry to hear that presently you find it difficult to balance a full working life with your YT presence, I can well understand the stresses, and am very glad and thankful for your efforts, now and in the past. I value your YT channel highly for their great depth of knowledge and detail, and often find myself going back to watch various episodes again, and also watch ones that I haven't, as sadly I didn't get to find your valued contributions until you were already well established here. Wow, 'wasting alot of time trying to find the meaning of life' - Brilliant Arith. It's interesting i love everything you said about the bind rune., and because of what i see as extended lines of the first rune, i thought that would be the 'gift' (gebo) of completing a cycle of life. Not a heavenly thing , just recognition of the cycle of life and death feeding each other. - and then you describe your shoulder tattoo , which sort of covers that - Thankyou!

No matter how small they are, they already must be treated with the same respect as a grown up. I only walk with them for a short time of their life, and they want to learn and grow and not be me all over again. I'm not living through my children and make them what I want them to be. As many others have said thank you for doing this. May I ask an opinion of you? I have been thinking of getting a Tiwaz rune tattoo, however, I feel that it just needs more. I have heard from others to just stack the rune which I like the idea but again I want to make more catching. Do you have any recommendations/suggestions to add with the rune? Or even an idea of a bind rune with Tiwaz?
@ArithHärger2 жыл бұрын
Hello there friend, how's it going? Well, of course you have to be the one finding a meaning that best suits you and your purpose and what you want to express. Although I think tiwaz would look cool with an inverted Algiz at the other end. It would be something like ᛏ on the upper end, and ᛦ on the lower end, which kind of creates a sort of stylized representation of an arrow (this representation can be quite representative in itself of the binding of these two runes in these positions). Instead of ᛦ you can always try the Anglo-Saxon rune ᛠ , although this one by itself isn't very "positive", if you take my meaning. Although I should like to say that the ᛠ rune is older than any Runic script in Germanic context, as it already appears in pre-Roman Paleohispanic scripts, at least 900 years before the runes were introduced to Germanic peoples. The ᛠ runiform in North-Eastern Iberian and Eastern Celtiberian represent the "m" sonant, while in Anglo-Saxon is "ea". Just a thought, of course.

I know of course that Jormungandr is described as biting his tail, but I don't know that I've seen any portrayals in art. And also in one of the Helgi poems in the poetic edda, I remember a description of a sword with a serpent biting its tail on the hilt. But I have never seen an actual sword with that motif!

Aaaaa muito obrigada por esclarecer que nos registros está que todos vão para Hel porque há uma adaptação 'moderna' de que os mortos em batalha iriam para Valhalla... Ou isso é só algo inventado nos Vikings? Hahahha thanks for all these informations Dear Arith and beautiful tatoos!

Isn‘t ᚼ the younger futhark Rune for hagalaz? The combination wtith the elder futhark mannaz appears as the Rune for the a-sound on some transitional runestones between elder and younger furharc so my First thougt was that you actually were referring to the ár rune (coming from jera). This would twist the meaning a bit I guess ;)
@ArithHärger2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I see what you are saying, in the last stages of the Elder Futhark due to the changes in sound values and transition to Old Norse the initial Jera was indeed ᚼ , but I wanted to follow the consolidation of the Younger Futhark in plain Old Norse ("classic"), when ᚼ = h ; ᛅ = a, æ, e ; ᚾ = n ; ᚬ = ą, o, æ
