For those who are interested in the topic, Roderick Dale wrote a thesis on the Berserkers that gives details about this cult. He basically analyzed several literary sources referring to them and backed their existence with archaeological findings. He also raised an important question, did the berserkers go berserk? The answer is no, berskangr was not induced by mushrooms like it was often presumed, but a ritual that helped these warriors to conjure this animalistic nature before the battle. Berserkers existed but not the way literature depicted them.

I often wonder about the characterization of wolves as the aggressive. wild and violent side of nature. I have a wolf, he is intelligent gentle and extremely playful. He is mischievous if he is ignored but when he is part of the activity he thrives and is less aggressive than an ordinary dog. He hates confinement and to be alone. He has allowed a rescued duckling to sit right next to him and eat out of his bowl. My cats will rub up against him purring. Wolves are far superior to humans in controlling their behavior.

It's probably because in medieval Europe wolves were said to be less shy than they are now, and very common - and if humans would stray in the woods unarmed or poorly armed, chances were higher that a wolf or a pack would snatch a child in away for an easy snack. Though since humanity thinned out the woodlands, and developed more dangerous weapons, wolves grew more withdrawn and stayed away from humans. That's why people are still afraid of wolves these days, even though wolves don't really form much of a threat for humans anymore.

There is something primal and profoundly... human, when an individual connects to and outwardly expresses the wolf. The two of us have a long and deeply spiritual relationship woven through time. I highly recommend everyone to, at least once a year, find some solitude and snarl, howl, growl, flex your fingers and curl them into offensive claws. Run. Just let that animal side of you STRETCH for a moment! Then meditate, breathe, connect to the environment and realize yourself back to the 'docile' human we are most of the time. It is such a healthy engagement with release. It's probably going to feel really stupid and weird at first but just immerse yourself and your mind will switch. It is part of the human experience we should not ignore it ❤

I've experienced the same thing my whole life. I've never had friends or family besides my mother who is also just like me. I live in a very rural area and though I am very gregarious, people tend to shy away from me. Even when I was in the military and certain areas of law enforcement, people stayed well away. I'm a gentle person unless pushed. I think people pick up on that in my demeanor and body language. People being inherently lazy find it easier to behave badly and to be unkind as it is too much work to be friendly and well mannered. Knowing that, they tend to avoid people they know that will call them on their shit. It may be a lone wolf type of life, but it is peaceful and pretty much drama free.

I would say that we have gone too far, you said violence is a bad thing, I feel we have forgotten that the real problem with violence is(to quote the Dali Lama) its unpredictable consequences. As one who was a full time traveler for the last four plus years. I can not even tell begin to tell the most authentic and primal feel that I had felt around a bonfire one night; as we had all gathered in the desert in the southwest of the United States. The drum circle and the beat definitely brings out our most primal self. It was something that I had never experienced, but yet I must have, way back in time. The beat of those drums just had brought out another side of me. I just wished that even though I was in a group of people, I was alone. It would have been an amazing moment if I could have shared it with someone on a mental and even physical plane, but I was alone. Currently I am in my new small town and will be purchasing off grid land soon. I do realize that the bears in the area tend to sleep in the winter months, but the wolves do not. I have dealt with coyotes before, but wolves are another beast altogether. I don’t even wish to run into one or be surrounded by a pack as I go about my daily chores. Those things definitely, put the fear in me like nothing else will.

There is wisdom in what you say brother. The quickest way for my inter beast to stir is for me to feel threat or anger turned toward me. Some of us do not have a flight mode built into us. There are those, and I am one, that instantly go into fight mode. Learning to control that is hard, but can be done. If cornered and forced to turn loose my inter rage I will fight, but only then as the damage done in those moments take a great time to heal. To restrain is not logical and can not work long term is true. To temper and learn ones limits is better. Control is a razors edge we all stand painfully on from time to time. Never confine your nature, instead learn to control it as best you can. You are very correct that there is a beast inside us each and every one. Even the meekest pup will bight if pushed into it.

A very credible explanation of the more proficient warrior class of aggressive tribal people, like the Norse and Celts. (No insult intended as I have both in my ancestry). You adeptly filled in historical 'gaps', like how this separate class of ferocious fighters would most certainly have to be kept isolated from the rest of their tribe. I feel sad for these wolf/bear warriors. Their humanity was stripped , albeit for the salvation of the rest of their people, but then they were shut away like dangerous war dogs, unable to ever enjoy the life they had killed for. They remind me of how the great Irish Wolfhound nearly went extinct, and why. They had been used as consummate large game and wolf killers; and also as battle dogs as they were huge enough to pull a man down off a horse. When people became 'civilized', and the need for these huge hounds to hunt and kill large targets ended, they were allowed to simply die out. Excellent documentary Arith, I really did enjoy it. You can't argue that. You can hope the courts work, and he may be in jail for a while, and that is a solution, but it may not be final in the long run. You may go to jail too, but again, it's a final solution.

@@ArithHärger excellent and meticulous video! With direct, wise and multidisciplinary content. You could have spoken of astral lycanthropy, berseker, Apollo as lyceus, etc. What is your animist view of the origin of werewolves? congratulations on your KZbin channel. I would like to help you. Best wishes from Brazil.

Those who deny their dark side can never expect to contain it. You have to see it, acknowledge it, and only use it when absolutely necessary. It’s part of life and part of the human being also. ✌️💚🙏

Thank you for another awesome video. This subject very much resonates. I agree, violence solves nothing yet I am familiar with it . I have ptsd because of violence and death in military service but I harness the beast to overcome fear and hate not only within but in others: protection work last winter, outdoor education with kids last Spring, and prayer run to Indian Canyon (Amah Mutsun Ohlone) recently on the last New Moon. I am Norse and we are Pack! HOOYAH!!

thank you for this one - - -this year has been a huge pendulum swing for me - - - I have been feeling this; the few people around me in my life are more uncomfortable in my presence than usual . . I now have more of an understanding of what is happening - I 'knew' it - but this helps me to 'accept' it.

Thank you for this video Arith, the ancestors have been bringing up the wolf pack shamanic warrior tribes for the last few years. Information would come little at a time, but today after a journey I did all this information started coming through including your video that tied it all in together. I’m truly greatful for the information 🙏🏻❤️

What I got from this video is that I believe everyone has a little bit of that raw primal beast within them. Some can control it better than others and some were born unable to control it, especially in their younger years. But like a werewolf, they can't control when they can or can not transform and they become blood lusted, only controlled by pure emotion and instincts. Then they revert back to human form only to be filled with regret, guilt and sadness. The way I view it is, accepting this side of you and learning to control it and find balance. If this side of you comes out more often, find something that can control it and express that part of you.

One of the greatest errors of modernity is the failure understand the Christian Scripture "..and Meek shall inherit the Earth." Today this is confused with the "the Weak." Instead the most Meek of men are those *most capable of harm and destruction* who instead choose to to restrain and control that ability. The weak are nothing. The best way to access the greatest part of one's spiritual power is to be as aware and close to one's animal nature and yet still in control of that nature, and are capable of imposing order on that power of chaos.

I agree completely, Instead of fighting for black against white, good against evil, in our societies and personal selves, we need to always seek the balance. Not to destroy either side, but finding the balance between chaos and order. To many religions preach a battle between right and wrong, evil or good. This is why religion fails. Find your balance, the balance between the healer and the warrior, the balance between life and death, between light and dark.

Thank you for making this video. I have been struggling with religion and my place. Your relation to the wolf/nature with in really talked to me. I have read about Fenrir wolf so many times but never thought about those stories in that way. It is fitting that Ragnarok happens once that caged spirit is let out after all that oppression. I love your videos and thank you for your insite and wisdom. They have helped me greatly.

I spent some time caring for African Lions, (the MGM lions before the movies, of which I've known two,) bear, (Gentle Ben , the movie) elephants, zebra, and a cougar, that was used in old Mercury Cougar TV advertisements. I also cared for a few wolves which were given to me by native americans, and these wolves I released into the wild when they were grown, they wanted to be free. For me there was no choice, they would find a way. Since that time, I became a teacher in a high security prison of men, not much difference between a movie compound for wild animals and a prison. For my part as a teacher, I learned to listen and understand what they offered to me as a lesson in observation and understanding.

Hahahaha - nice lil bday present this was >.< All the wolves are gonna come out to comment on this one. I grew up in the forest (town of 400 people, and 4 kids my age) My dog Sheba, was mostly my best friend, baby sitter and teacher... Plus, my family name is of course Wolfe. I didn't always live in that town - but that place always lived within me. So much so, that at 23 I shunned the 'civilized' world and lived in the woods/ outskirts of other small towns and picked fruit and did farming sometimes, when I needed some sort of money. I had some people, who would come check on me and at times give me food - for cleaning and maintaining the land I was living around and had many of these locations, around different towns... This is my first year of 'going back into civilization' - hence, having the ability to watch these videos. I struggle in how to bridge these two realities.
