The Meaning of the Parable of the Lost Sheep

In the Parable of the Lost Sheep (Luke 15:1-7), Jesus explains the meaning of his mission in the world.
Jesus is the good shepherd in the story that leaves the ninety-nine good sheep and goes after the one lost sheep.
The lost sheep is the sinner, who makes a mistake and wanders without God. God goes out searching for the sinners and brings them back. That was why he sent his only Son, Jesus Christ, into the world. He goes out to the people that need his mercy the most and brings them back to the Church.
It helps to think of yourself as each one of the characters in the story:
Lost Sheep: When have I been the lost sinner in need of God's mercy?
Ninety-nine Good Sheep: When have I been a good person?
Friends and Neighbors: Have I rejoiced when I see a sinner repent?
Here are some additional discussion questions:
Why would the shepherd leave the ninety-nine remaining sheep to go searching for the one that was lost?
What would it feel like to be the lost sheep that the shepherd came to find?
When we are one of the ninety-nine good people who are with God, how can we prayerfully support the ones that are lost?
How can we celebrate with Jesus and the saints in heaven when someone who was lost is found and returned?

Simply beautiful. We are all in need of God’s mercy. We are all like lost sheep-at times, and need to turn to God’s mercy- and then to act with mercy. Shakespeare is helpful here as well. Portia’s famous speech to Shylock at the trial of the Merchant of Venice, when she asks Shylock for mercy to release the Merchant from his bond (a pound of flesh), and Shylock demurs, saying by what compulsion ? “The quality of mercy is not strained. It dropperh like the gentle rains from heaven. On the place beneath, it is twice blessed. It blesseth him who gives and him who takes. Tis mightiest in the mightiest; It is an attribute of God Himself. . . So consider this, Shylock, though justice be thy plea. That in the course of justice, no one shall see salvation. We do but pray for mercy. And that same prayer, teaches us all to render the deeds of mercy. That’s the good news of the Gospel.. Amen

I’ve come to this video after something powerful that happened to me in 2018. As a Christian I’ve sinned and constantly felt not good enough. In 2018 I had a vision of Jesus and my deceased brother. There was a lot more to it than I can go into, but what I saw was Jesus tell me to read the parable of the lost sheep. Thanks for your interpretation. I kind of knew it anyway but it’s nice to have what I thought backed up by another christian. 🙏

Read carefully, Luck 15:7 King James Bible I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which "need no repentance". Believers need to repent to become believers. "need no repentance" - they are unbelievers.

That they are left behind simply indicated that they are beyond the reach of the enemy they are not lost but already saved. Spiritually speaking that implies the Lord is in them and they are in the Lord so wherever the Lord goes they are with Him and He in them. The lost one, however, has to be sought because he is no more contained in the Lord and the Lord is no more in him which is why the devil dare has the effrontery to trap him in the first place. To be saved, however, he has to show the willingness and desire to come back to the Lord´s fold by way of repentance which is the rejection of the evil way that misled or lead him the wrong way in the first place. However, having been away or out of the Lord´s fold or wing for long has allowed the enemy to corrupt his endowed direct spiritual conscious connection( soul consciousness) hence the Lord must reach out to save His Image and Likeness. Only the Lord can break into that devil´s enclave the lost one is trapped in but only if the one calls on His Name which is the case of the lost one in order to be saved.

This guys teaching is not correct about the 99. Jesus is speaking to the Pharisees showing them that rightous people are really unrighteous thinking that they don't need to be saved and are not sick an that Jesus didn't come for people who don't need a doctor but for them that do. The Pharisees or the rightous think they do everything right in the site of God outwardly, but inwardly are like dead man's bones. That is what this parable means, the 99 rightous are unsaved and Jesus is going out to find the 1 that knows they are unrighteous and need to be saved.

@herbiewalkermusic We have to recognize we are unrighteous an in need of help. We can't be righteous, there's no way because we are born in sin and under the law, the Pharisees think they are because they follow the law and think because they follow the law they are already righteous None of us are righteous no not one, but we are made righteous by our faith in Jesus Christ Romans 3:21 The righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it- the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe.

You may delete this if you like It's about how it is the outsider, whether critical or to praise with someone who says "i rescued a sheep" who are the problem. They are the winning-team hopper. While getting punished or praised, the rest of the sheep the ones who can't be told "no" & the ones who actually trying but who don't complain, do what they can as a pack 🤷🏼‍♀️. Krystel Spicer Mind Ark FB. I take comparisons. The point is, only shepherds have need for shepherds. Again & again will they celebrate him. I was comparing man with a snake, & noticed I'd heard the story before. As one told about a nice sheep & a shepherd & a party the way people would have liked it. Inside out. Was he nervous when he told this story? It's one thing for a man to wander the wilderness than for one of his people. He is the helper, the lost sheep the worth for wear & can compare the nice from the nasty person they answer to, & only know both.

This kinda got me thinking in many ways. We "Christians" are so quick to say "All Lives Matter" whenever we hear the people on the other side say "Black Lives Matter" but if you put it in this context, it is the people of color that are most in need of attention in regards of justice and equity.

So, in other words, it's better to be the lost sheep so you get Jesus' attention than be the part of the good sheep whom he ignores. What a great idea. So it's Jack Daniels and casual sex for me from now on. What's the point of going being good and going to church, Jesus just ignores you!

People cannot find themselves until they realize they're lost. People think going to church gives them identity, making them like "true" Christian's -- it doesn't. Ask yourself if drinking jack Daniel's and going to church are of the same reasons. People seem to identify with the church -- because they're Spiritually lost having no direction. Or they drink jack Daniel's so to fill that same void. Regardless both church and jack Daniel's is used for the same reason just differing angles -- like two sides of the same coin. Enjoy the jack Daniel's and casual sex if that's your fancy, it's not right or wrong, good or bad... it's about Spirituality -- once you become aware of what you're doing and why you're doing it, only then can you find out what it is you really want, so going in that direction -- repenting -- which is turning away from the old so going to a more Spiritual direction. "Good" is subjective. Don't go to church having to say or do what "they" want to see, just so you get "their" validation. Christ's validation comes only when one is authentic from within, seeking him through Heart in Spirit. The church isn't a building it's the Siritual people.

I got brought up with both sides of the coin: church-going (Baptist) mother and bourbon-drinking and gambling step-father who departed in 2008. In the end, he had more faith in G-d than most people who go to church, in my opinion. So I know the Bible and bourbons pretty well. Jack Daniels, Jim Beam, Canadian Club - just line them up - then I won't care who I'm in bed with!

@@nossasenhoradoo871 that's not what that means. The lost sheep is the sinner, the other 99 have already been saved. God will leave his 99 saved sheep to go after YOU!!! you that doesn't know him, you that doesn't have salvation yet because you don't know him. He wants to save you but only if you chose to. Not everyone that dies goes to heaven. He cannot force anyone to be with him for eternity if you reject him here. You must repent from your sins against God and reject your sinful ways. have faith in him. And follow him. Don't you want to be in heaven with your father one day?? Of course you do. I want to be with my mother that recently passed away 😭 please stop avoiding him. seek the Lord!! He's looking for you to save you.
