@GrimmShadowsII

He does have to do things that are somewhat popular so people watch his videos even if they aren't subscribed or watched his videos before. It's just the way KZbin works if you make underviewed videos then it makes it more likely the video won't be seen in subscribers inboxes. Greek /Roman mythology is always popular, it's probably the first thing people think of when they see the word mythology, and the MCU and God of War series has people interested in Norse. Nothing against mythology of other cultures but they just don't pop up as much in pop culture so people don't search for them as much.

If you've read or know anything about the original novel you'd know how tragic and ingenious Erik is. The musical doesn't touch on his personal life much so he comes across as magical to the audience but only drops hints that some might miss, basically you have to put thought into his face deformity and why he wears a mask while reacting the way he does when Christine takes it off, as well as the lyrics of the songs.

There is a comic about Norse mythology that was popular in Iceland (I feel like it was also popular in denmark but I was young so I don't remember) and when my friend was rereading the comic she told me how Loki wasn't a bad guy, only a prankster and when it came to him not crying, they explained it as Baldur didn't want to leave so Loki did him a favour and didn't cry. Some fun trivia: In Norwegian (and maybe Danish and/or Swedish too), instead of the phrase "to death", which in Norwegian is "til døde", we often use the word "ihel" instead, which comes from the phrase "to Hel". So basically, say if a guy is beaten to death, we say he was "beaten to Hel".

I think one of the most attractive things about Norse mythology is the fact that we don't really know what it was like, considering the fact that the author of one of the two existing sources probably changed some stuff, we don't know what and how much is different. Hey Jon I don't know if you watch anime or not, but there's this one called "Record of Ragnarok" that I found it on Netflix. It has a good story line and great fight scenes. It has gods from all religions Greek, Norse, and plenty more. You can compare the new depictions of the characters to what's already know of them, that goes for their fighting styles and some backstories too. Plus there's some non god related superpower-ish people characters that are legend, that you can look into too. There's also "Blood of Zeus" which is souly on Greek God's and meths but still pretty cool to watch and also on Netflix. Just fair warning for both prepare yourself for a lot of blood, gore, and gruesome death scenes if you choose to watch. I just thought it would be cool you don't have to if you don't want to. It's just anime can get so crazy with things like this so after a while it gets hard to tell whats real and what's fake. Love you, your dogs, and your content too.

I thought maybe you can take a look to see if they differentiated from the book to better stay with the actual mythology or if the "director" messed up on both ends, because I thought it would make a great video idea. This was great. Ironic that Hel's main contribution of usage today is that her name was adopted to the popular Christian realm of Hell in the same way that other Norse Gods gave us names for four of our seven days of the week (English).

Sort of related to that, in Norwegian (and maybe Danish and/or Swedish too), instead of the phrase "to death", which in Norwegian is "til døde", we often use the word "ihel" (ee-hel) instead, which comes from the phrase "to Hel". So basically, say if a guy is beaten to death, we say he was "beaten to Hel".

In the versions of Ragnarok that I've read, after the world is engulfed in flames and flooded over, the waters eventually recead, and the surviving gods and humans begin again in the new realm. How much of this was influenced by Christianity at the time (a single man and woman emerging from Yggdrasil, the flood portion, Baldur's Christ-like resurrection, etc) and how much is more true to the original beliefs is up to interpretation.

Hel was the name of the influential woman in Metropolis. She has a gaze that can pierce you. In the beginning she's a storyteller of an upcoming salvation. In the middle a robot version creates a rebellion that causes mass destruction and nearly all of their children. It ends with the real Hel bringing the children to safety and getting the two societies to work together. Queen used the movie for the video Radio Ga Ga. It's also what inspired their robot Frank, the modern translation of Fritz.

The most probable reason for the 'Hela' is to avoid confusion since you pronounce Hel and Hell the same way. What's funny tho is that she's not actually pronounced like that (most English names are 'englified' for those who didn't know and not the actual names). Hel is actually pronounced with a long sounding E (kind of like how you say 'heel' or 'heal') rather than a quick L. Another fun fact which I just realized is that the Swedish word 'helvete' (which means hell) most likely comes from Hel. However, if you make a literal translation from 'Hel-vete' into English it literally means 'whole-wheat', so yea, dine with care kids! 😂

I have been a devote of Hel for 7 years now. She is a caretaker and healer of the dead. She has shown me whole chambers that are dedicated to healing those who went through sexual trauma in life and things of the like. She can be very strict, but she has an incredibly tough job to do. I have found her to also be a great guide and is always there when needed. She is a psychopomp and is therefore teaching me to be the same. It is honourable if not tough and sometimes soul crushing work. She also presented herself to me with light olive skin, dark brown hair, and chocolate brown eyes. She can be very cheeky when she is in the mood for it. Hail Hel!

Loki actually had more children than just Fenris, Hel, and Jormangonr (sorry for misspellings). Slephnir is his oldest child whom he birthed as a female horse, Odin having taken the child away and turning him into his steed. He also had a set of twins who I forget the names of. As a Norse pagan, I love spending time looking into the mythos behind all of them. Loki and Freja are the ones I know the most about though.
