@@iameternalsunshine When you don`t intend to do your meditation practice or live on the Noble Eightfold Path then, you`re on a road to nothing. However `zen-like` your statement, your use of the word `intent` is misleading. Important headings of the Noble Eightfold Path: samyak-saṃkalpa and samyak-karmānta (but certainly all 8 in varying levels), shows clearly that intent should be very deliberate and mindful in directing our intention acting out a life reflecting truth, in preparation for Nibbana.

This was so incredible, I meditated to this and you spoke everything part true. What I mean is exactly as you was saying what you was saying I was experiencing; especially at 36 minutes you talk about shattering the meditation because my foundations are not strong; a minute before I had awoke from my meditation with thinking of what next

Nirodha is the goal. Nirodha is cessation. Cessation means STOPPING. The goal is reached by learning how to stop. Not the lazy, slothful kind of stopping that is actually a hindrance, but a clear, light and healthy stopping that comes from a commitment to living life fully and freely.

The BUDDHA teach one to attain enlightment. Here many monk talk about jhanna. Below are two reason why samatha strong jhanna cannot jump into cesseation. And why vipasanna samadhi are able to enter into Enlightment. Here are the truth : Sharing from one who has experience awakening. Samadhi in vipasanna is short and once it reach samadhi it will continue to go forward when the 5 faculty are balance(faith, effort, mindful, concentration, wisdom) If this 5 faculty is not parallel or balance it will not push forward to ENLIGHTMENT. It must not be too strong or too weak. All 5 power or faculty must be parallel or balance then ENLIGHTMENT can be accomplish. Suppose in vipasanna after you reach samadhi and your 5 power is not parallel/balance, you will automatically fall back again to breathing contemplation so as to readjust itself until it is balance. Then ATTAINMENT is accomplish. So the above explain about vipasanna, samadhi and the relation to the 5 faculty power once is parallel/balance one enter NIBANNA. Now let's come to SAMATHA 4th jhanna. Why samatha strong 4th jhanna still cannot become ENLIGHTED? If you refer to above vipasanna explaination carefully you can see that i explain the samadhi in vipasanna and the 5 faculty power relationship. In samatha 4th jhana is very strong and that too strong jhanna in samatha are the cause of not able to reach ENLIGHTMENT. So the important point here to understand is the different of samadhi in vipasanna and jhanna in samatha is : Samadhi in vipassana when it is too weak it will readjust itself until it is parallel/balance because when one prsctice vipasanna, one is practicing panna or wisdom and it is exactly as said by the BUDDHA that one are seeing the truth as they really are. What is as they really are, it is seeing impermanent unsatisfactory and nonself (can see aniccha, dukkha, anatha) So when one practice vipasanna one wisdom can self adjust the 5 faculty balancing it then go into ENLIGHTMENT. In samatha the jhanna is too strong and it do not have WISDOM (cannot see aniccha, dukkha, anatha) So it cannot adjust itself So the practice cannot reach ENLIGHTMENT. That is the reason one with too strong jhanna has to train the mind to vipasanna again to gain WISDOM so as to see aniccha, dukkha, anatha and to readjust the 5 faculty before one can become ENLIGHTED. ENLIGHTMENT is WONDERFUL but it take lots of energy and determination and WISDOM to accomplish it. This is how Vipasanna samadhi and samatha jhanna and the 5 faculty has to be balance in order for ENLIGHTMENT. May all come to attainment in this life. BUDDHAM SARANAM GACCHAMI.

Agree it is too long to emphasise how to quiet the mind.It is not rubbish but too long to explain how to quiet the mind. In the end the listener gets bored and confused. And definately they will still not able to still the mind. Too many conventional example cannot result ultimate truth. BUDDHAM SARANAM GACCHAMI

samadhi must be balance For samatha is too strong jhana If these two absorption are not balance Enlightment will not be possible. The 5 faculty are to be balanced is only possible when one can repeatedly experience aniccha, dukkha, anatha. This aniccha, dukkha, anatha is repeatedly can be experience in vipasanna exercise not in samatha exercise. Thus vipasanna is the way to ENLIGHTMENT. It is the ceaseation of the six senses that signify one awaken. It is like the firewood and the flame. The fire wood represant the 5 senses and the flame represant the mind. To stop the flame the supply of the fire wood will need to be stop. This is exactly the same as our five sense and the mind as the six sense. Once the 5 sense stop sending information to the mind, the mind become quiet(4th jhana or Upeka) and then shut down (CEASEATION) This CEASEATION will depend on your KARMA and paramita and the 5 faculty. This shutting down of the mind is the state of AWAKENING TO ENLIGHTMENT. BUDDHAM SARANAM GACCHAMI

@@joewoodistiller Hi Joe, I agree with you , it is not rubbish, that was a little harsh of me, after all this is his seminar + people come to hear him talk as much as to gain some info they can use at some time. But as you say , it can be long winded + too intellectualised to be used in meditation itself, intellectualism is an ego function + always gets in the way of peace of mind. The word meditation itself has also in my view become a somewhat ''loaded'' term , is this the ''right '' way to meditate, is this the right practice etc, etc. I tend to just use the word dissociate instead, to avoid any misunderstanding as to which method or type of meditation is best. One is looking for peace + tranquility within, without any intellectualism of any kind. I like him because he does actually tell people that there is no thinking process at all when one ''enters'' into infinite space, one cannot formulate thoughts nor produce images here, it is truly ''empty'' in this sense. But to get there one simply needs to let go of all exterior thoughts feelings or imaginary events. Peace, tranqility, let go , let go. Eventually + with practice one will find the sense of detatchment that is necessary + healthy for the mind, body + soul of the individual + a threshold to communication with the inner self/mind which is in itself, free of all boundaries. It is simple in this sense , not too much needs to be said about it. What i don't undestand about many of these Buddists is that they dont particularly like to have much of a conversation about the qualities + characteristics of the non\material states + generally always tend to fall back on the annatta doctrine to avoid such a conversation which i find rather strange + unhelpful + not very open minded. Peace + love
