Dave is constantly working on his car in a button-down and slacks. The definition of You can't touch this! Hopefully this isn't in poor taste but at some point I hope we get a ballpark figure of what this build cost. The chassis, body and custom fabrication definitely approaching 100k. In total I'm thinking north of a quarter mil.

Engine alone was 100k
@ssoffshore511110 ай бұрын
Definitely waaay over $100k!!! It would be a bit of a challenge to build a fairly nice SL-C today (with a new LS and new parts) for under $100k. With paying for all this custom work, and that drivetrain, I suspect your upper number is still pretty short!
@PenumbralFigure10 ай бұрын
This will end up north of 300k, definitely. Engine and trans alone is 100k (65-ish plus 25-ish). Body/suspension is 70k. Then fuel tanks, coolers/radiators, wheels, tires, brakes, pumps, lines.
@aciid_010 ай бұрын
You should consider some bypass flaps on the rear of your radiator, an enclosed design like that is far less efficient for cruising, and the flaps will close if the fans kick in due to pressure, they will be pushed open during cruising speed to allow better airflow.
@jacquescrusan950010 ай бұрын
The best part about all this is that since the lynchpin that is the engine assembly is finally complete, the rest of the vehicle starts to snowball from here in how fast it all comes together. When I built up my car, I spent so much time waiting for parts due to 2020's shipping problems that by the time the parts came together, I had all the rest of the car sorted and ready to assemble.

There's a strong chance of having fuel starvation issues turning left. Radicals had that same tank and pump design and they ran into fuel cuts on sustained g left hand turns. I fixed mine with foam and an extra lift pump.

It will definitely need a decent sized surge tank/pump, and likely foam as well in the main tank for serious track work.

I see all these people buying track inspired super cars at stupid prices. I don't get it. This is a supercar and a driver's car. I think this is far more interesting than a Maclaren Sena for example. This is an expensive build, but the value is off the charts for an enthusiast.
@matthewlee419310 ай бұрын
I wonder comparatively if Dave would compare the cost of this build to something of that sort
@user-od9iz9cv1w10 ай бұрын
@@matthewlee4193 It would be interesting to see that kind of a comparison. I think a Sena is an amazing car, but stupid expensive buy and even worse to maintain. The SLC chassis has set track records, so it will be a capable handling car with an amazing sound and driving character.
@ssoffshore511110 ай бұрын
As an SL-C owner and having been in many supercars, it's kind of apples and oranges IMO. On paper it might seem like a fair comparison, but that's about where it ends. The level of refinement, sorting, reliability, etc of a factory supercar is lightyears beyond what something like this will ever be. Everything in a factory supercar is designed in CAD and combed over by teams of engineers from every field and specialization before it ever even gets to the prototyping and production stages. While the final production vehicles might still have some flaws, nothing compared to a custom home-build. All the systems will have been designed to work together, and be thoroughly tested. The refinement, seals, fit and finish, etc will be 100x better. Something like an SL-C will be more like a prototype racecar in comparison, it will require a lot of sorting and ironing everything out, even after this level of custom work and professional assistance is injected into it. And even then, it will still never have the refinement, reliability, warranty, or parts on the shelf like a equivalent $ supercar you can buy from the stealership. With that said, you wont see another like it anywhere you go, plus he'll have the pride to say much of it is his own design or vision! Like I said, it's kind of apples and oranges!

Very cool stuff Dave! I do however see a potential problem with the radiator and oil coolers. Running a solid metal line direct to these is eventually going to break the fittings loose. You need at least 6 or 8 inches of hose to connect the metal lines to the coolers to give it some flex. The same will be true for any other lines running to coolers, valves, etc., where vibration, and expansion/contraction will be a factor! Looking fantastic so far.😉👍👍
@MazzeiFormula10 ай бұрын
Thank you Dan, you are correct but not to worry. There are hose flex couplers for each hard-line on radiator and soft lines that transition from hardlines for the oil coolers!

David, I've seen you on the Haltech groups on FB. I emplore you to rethink your decision about the DBW throttle. The 'snappy' feeling you refer to is 100% able to be achieved with a DBW throttle body. Traction control is far superior with the DBW, not to mention accurately mapping the bell curve of a throttle opening, lift off anti-lag, idle control, rev match downshift, cruise control (for all that street driving). There is really no reason not to use it man.

As much as I love Rob Dahm as a viewer this guy is on another level. He plans his builds meticulously thinking over the build before assembly. When this project is done it will be a finished product. Rob Dahm never finishes a single thing and it annoys me to no end. The guy doesn’t even have a cover over his 4 rotor’s transmission. That car just isn’t safe and every time he races it something breaks because he tackles one thing as a time without thinking the whole project over.

But for one reason rrss makes a harmonic dampe crank pulley but fluidamper doesnt... But porshe doesnt warrent a lwfw but I don't think any manufacturer does.
