Dame is NOT a member of the Miami Heat and Pat Riley surely regrets his stinginess. But how much are the Portland Trail Blazers to blame? #basketball #commentary #nba

@@kentwanblackstock7879 If you take articles that are clearly spin by the Miami front office as gospel fact, yeah. It's naive to think front offices don't create spin through Woj and Haynes to not seem like they messed up. Miami screwed up by offering scraps and being arrogant to piss Portland off in the first place, it's not like the Blazers were just mad for no reason. And then Miami didn't push their chips to the table and offer more to get the deal done which let the Bucks come in and say "our team is super old and we dont attract free agents like Miami does so our future picks are worth more than theirs, take our offer". Bro! The Blazers just traded Jrue Holiday for Robert Williams, Malcolm Brogdon, AND two more first round picks. Now that Dame package is starting to look AMAZING. They essentially got Ayton, Williams, Brogdon, Camara, 3 1st round picks (two unprotected), and two pick swaps for Dame and Nurkic. That’s a pretty freaking wicked package of assets. And they could potentially flip time lord or Brogdon for more assets later on. I think the Blazers just turned the Dame trade from like a C+ into an A or A+

Miami should've made a good enough offer that Cronin rejecting it would've made him look like a villain. Offering less than Bucks (bc far-future picks/swaps from a very old team can be super valuable) lets Cronin off the hook bc he could make the same decision as if ego wasn't a factor. If Miami added 1 more pick and young player, Cronin would've had to wear that cross to Blazers fans/owners. People would've called for his head if Blazers underwhelmed bc they'd say he let his ego ruin a better deal. That aspect might have had Cronin reconsider but Miami didnt even try

The asking for Jimmy or Bam is standard negotiation, same way Rockets asked for Kyrie or KD for Harden or Nets asked for an all-star for KD. If they really wanted to the Heat and Blazers could've gotten a deal done, but Heat stayed firm with their offer and didn't want to outbid themselves, that lead to Portland getting mad and ignoring Miami. For example, Heat could've given Herro (flipped for another first), Jovic, 3 firsts, 2 swaps, Lowry, Duncan Robinson, Caleb Martin, Jaime Jaquez but when it's going on for months, they get sick of hearing from Miami and went forward with the Bucks offer of Jrue, Grayson, 1 pick, and 2 swaps
@ckq
@ckq 7 ай бұрын
I really thought it was a forgone conclusion he was going to Miami and we might've had to wait until the trade deadline like we did with KD, but the Bucks came out of left field. Ultimately, the Bucks trade is better for NBA fans since the Heat's lack of depth was gonna kill them. Dame and Giannis is a much more interesting duo especially when it's essentially just a straight up Dame for Jrue swap. It'll tell us if offense or defense matters more since Jrue is one of the best guard defenders and Dame is one of the worst, but Jrue is a above average on offense, Dame might be the best offensive player in the NBA rn

thats our whole future packaged with 2 people we really want to lose.... nah bruh, Jovic and Jaquez and Martin are dealbreakers right away, especially all together, maybe one of them together with Herro and Robinson 1 first and 2 swaps, maybe in extreme cases 2 firsts, but thats about it. If they wanted Lowry he could be included as well but that was about as high as we were willing to go for a max 34 year old Dame who can prove to be a liability and walk for nothing in 2 years. It was a bad deal for us, lets not kid ourselves. If we signed and traded Struss maybe we couldve gotten the deal done but otherwise we really did not have the right assets to make the deal at this time unless a 3rd team got involved and unfortunately for us that 3 rd team was PHX who we got beef with for as long as i can remember and the deal washed right there, we were never able to match Ayton without gutting our team to hell in the process. Thats why certain franchises in the NBA are simply above and beyond the rest because even tho its still a minority, they get that to win you need to put in the work, not the money. Thats why we were in the finals, 2 out of 4 last finals, thats why GS won the chip, thats why Denver won the chip, thats why we got oh so close, and i could go on and on and almost for every finals game you can say that the team that won really deserved to win.

I really only see 1 of 2 options for them post trade, and that is to either see what they can get for a combination of Lowry + Robinson + Martin + literally all their picks (probably would be divided into two trades) or just trade Jimmy and Bam (and maybe even Herro in that case) and blow the team up.
@weedhigh2564
@weedhigh2564 7 ай бұрын
we dont blow our team up, and if we did dont you think it makes sense to keep Herro and Bam since they are young? Dont you think we would not trade Duncan and Kyle in a heartbeat if we could? Im all for trading for a stretch 5 and a defensive minded PG, dont get me wrong. Buuuuut... you know... nobody wants them at the price they are going by and its not like we can deflate their salary... ya'll really have no idea about who the Heat are and what we are about, this is not how we do things, if you dont like it how we do things you always know where the doors are.

Anthony Davis didn't sign a supermax contract the year prior, then force a trade, he had 1 year left on his deal and had the leverage to demand to go to the Lakers and use his free agency to discourage other teams from trading for him. 6:30 - Also, I don't know if that's true. @@RD-zx6py man, he is trying to keep the Core that have reached two finals. Sometimes, in order to do that, he will have to overpaid or underpaid players, just to keep the team relevant. The thing is that ever since 2019 there has only been 3 superstars free agents, nowadays players would rather get a sure thing rather than risk it in FA. They all want to sign the supermax and ask out the next year, they want their cake and eat it too, when the supermax was created so small market teams could retain their star player, but it doesn't work since they just sign and dip. That's why banking on getting a superstar through free agency nowadays is slim. If a player don't sign an extension, they're gonna trade him so they don't lose him for nothing.

One key difference between the AD and Lillard situations is that Lillard had multiple years left on his deal. AD didn't. This means that Lillard had way less leverage than AD. diehard Miami fan here, i think something along the lines of we go for Dragič on the vet minimum, we get another young PG that is more defensively oriented and we get a stretch 5 or 4. No need to make big splashes for them, a regular player good at the job we need him to do would do just fine if consistent. I would not mind a splash tho especially for that stretch 5 since size is most of what we need and rebounding consistency on D, speaking of which Pat if you are reading this, Jonas Valanciunas is the man we need. We need somebody able to stop the Jokič's and ADs of the world on the team and currently we have only Bam and even for him its tough. Hell at this point i would not mind Boogie. We saw last year how much of an impact getting Kevin Love had, if we could double down on another similar player just younger, i say thats the way.

@@hoopsfienda stretch big would do wonders, we need to mention that we played the whole playoffs without our really best shooter and did good, sure losing Max hurts big time, but Jovic will be promoted this year as well as we can still trade for people or sign them as free agents, its not like we necessarily need a star to get over the hump, we need our weak points adressed more than anything, thats 3 point shooting and size, the rest we pretty much got covered.... oh how i wish to hear these words " Jonas Valanciunas traded to the Miami heat for Kyle Lowry and 2 first round picks (or something, im flexible about what we send in return thats just the ideal deal)", it would be a dream, im 100% he is the man we need to be unstoppable, if we get 2 decent shooters from free agency that can also play PG and D we are set for another finals, this time not so undersized anymore because lets be honest, both Lakers and Denver beat us just because of their size and while sure on paper they both looked the better team the way we lost we lost because of lack in size not lack of talent

Bad Take. Heat never wanted Dame. Heat were willing to take Dame for the bare minimum, being tyler herro and a couple picks. Anything past that, not so much. Also much more info came out from Dame's camp stating that Cronin never even wanted to negotiate with Miami and specifically didn't out of spite. There was no chance Miami was getting Dame with Cronin's pettiness. Dame speaking up about one and only one destination backfired and it is what it is. Miami have been to the finals twice in 4 years, and ECF 3 times (game 7 one three from winning even for a third finals visit) all with basically the same roster year in and year out. They can do it with or without Dame. It was never about Dame.

we got all the stars we need, what we need are complementary pieces at the 1 and 5 and we are gonna be just fine. And if we are really keeping count on the stars we missed, Harden washed, Mitchell had a so so season, Dame we will see, Beal fuck that contract we are better off, Durant ok maybe him was a legit miss, Giannis screwed us around for a whole summer and really did a number on us, we cant count him as a miss as he was FA. So, out of 6 potential misses, only 1 is a real miss the others we are better off without. You know what else all of them (ok besides Giannis) have in common? None of them would really help us out as a team and really improve our chances. What we need is a stretch forward/center and a defensive minded PG and we are good to go. We still got the shooting and the stretch 5/4 would even bolster that further but would add size we lack now and add to our rebounding, and a defensive PG (since a playmaker is not needed) would help cover for the holes in the defence our shooters make. I would be happier if we would pursue players like Fox and Valanciunas instead of "wonderkids" like Dame and Durant, we got the star power, what we need is help in carrying that power over the finish line and if you were paying attention last season you would have noticed the players that had the biggest impact on our game performance were Kevin Love and Caleb Martin.

Those articles are just spin by the Miami front office. This Bucks offer is better than Miami's. Maybe Cronin was emotional but if Miami had forced his hand by making a better offer than the Bucks so that the fans and owners would be mad at Cronin for letting his ego stop him from getting more, then they get to complain. Miami is a stable franchise in a destination market who can always attract free agents so their future picks are gonna be 15th ish at best, so they should've offered more Miami got too arrogant and didn't get the deal done early, and so the Bucks could swoop in and offer 3 future picks/swaps, which can be super valuable from an aging small-market team with no assets to draft or trade for anyone after this that would only have 34yo Giannis and G-leaguers around him by 2029 Not to mention that even if it was emotions, Pat Riley and Miami take a lot of blame for not handling it better by being so arrogant they kept leaking "we're not desperate" and acting like it was a foregone conclusion being *why* Portland got so pissed in the first place. They got complacent and screwed up. Miami saw Portland in a difficult situation with one of their best ever franchise players and decided to make an insulting offer. Miami offered basically the same package Boston used to get Derrick White because they thought they could strong-arm the Blazers into accepting scraps. It's ridiculous to not blame Miami for that

I choose team 3. Team 1 and 4 don't have enough shooting. Also, i don't see Magic playing in the triangle offense effectively, he really likes to push the tempo. Team 3 have kinda the same problem. Nash was at his best playing 7s or less, but in a low pace game (due to MJ, Dirk and Kareem), i don't think so. And depending on MJ and Kareem to play defense, it would be hard (i don't have an opinion on DW defense). Team 4 is great and they will have chemistry (LeBron and wade; TD and the Admiral. Also, in 2008, Kidd playing with LeBron and Wade in the Olympics was fun to watch, two basketball minds like LeBron and Kidd really played great together), but, not enough shooting, maybe the best defensive team of all of the 4 teams you mentioned. Team 3 is easy the best option. Even thought Reggie and Curry don't have the best defense, Bird was an underrated defender (specially as a help defender), and KG and Hakeem are two or the best defenders. Enough playmaking (Bird, Curry and KG), shooting and floor spacing (Curry, Miller and Bird), and pickpocking/ stealing (Bird, Curry and Hakeem). Also, chemistry. If Bird won 3 rings with McHale and Parish as his frontcourt (obviously KG and the Dream are better), Curry won 4 with Klay and Green (but instead, with Miller spacing and KG and Bird as his pointforwards) and the Dream won 2 with Mario Ellis, Sam Cassell and Horry (but instead, Curry, Miller and Bird) the sky is the limit for this team.

@@pfpchad2747 The Chris Haynes report describes otherwise. He stated Miami was prepared to negotiate a far greater package than what Portland settled for, but Portland was only interested in Bam or Jimmy and refused to follow up. Combined w Dame’s account of Cronin not wanted to comply w Dame’s preferred destination, Miami never really stood a chance due to the emotions at play.

@@JM-kk4wd Haynes and Woj have front office connections and its how they get scoops but in return they do spin for front offices. Miami messed up and they had to put out spin saying there was nothing they could've done to not seem like they messed up

The point is that the Heat lowballed the Blazers until the last minute and lost him. The Blazers got a real offer that was still better than the heat offer and took it.

The Heat weren't going to win a chip with Dame, it's not that big of a fuck up. Trade Butler and Bam and start all over.
