Cats are usually choosing to be aggressive with human as the last resort and they give plenty of warnings, even the intensity of scratches are different. So yeah when they say no to a tool they will attack the tool, not you. Its their way of saying "i dont like this". My cat also attacked the nail clipper or the brush rather than my hands.

Mine, also picky about brushing, didn't like the equigroomer. I found an undercoat rake that is extremely effective and gets the job done before he's had enough. The amount of hair that comes off just after a few days is insane. His coat is silky smooth where his hair is so thick it easily gets matted without frequent brushing. He's not ex-feral, but he was kept closed in a bathroom his first 2 years until those awful people surrendered him. The lack of socialization has mostly been overcome at this point, but he is VERY quick to express his displeasure at anything he remotely doesn't like/has had enough of.

@@justjeni83 to be fair, you are getting near their feet with a sharp tool, which is probably scary to them. I was afraid of the nail clippers as a kid, too, so I imagine the cats are just afraid you’d miss and unintentionally pinch/cut their fingers
@briannarenni Жыл бұрын
@@yzma9959 Seconded. I used to nanny babies and toddlers years ago and they don't love nail clippers either, mostly because of the sound (click or motor). Other half of the secret is to make loud/happy noise instead of talking to a cat or dog while you do it ( and for toddlers, clipping your own nail first helps too lol).
@runawayfaeIX Жыл бұрын
I foolishly played a little game of "I got your foot!" with my cat when I was a kid...then he told me just how much he hated it by pooping on my pillow 🤣💩
@sue8412 Жыл бұрын
@@justjeni83 it does work, but sometimes it takes more effort. Start off touching their paws when they’re relaxed, like when they’re eating or napping or playing. It’s normal if they don’t like it, but you don’t want to push too much otherwise it can have the opposite effect. If you just do the ‘end result’ you want once or twice a day, it probably won’t work - it’s more about gradually improving their comfort level rather than following a schedule. So you have to take every opportunity to handle them, then you can start retracting their claws. If they’re kneading, you can try and help them! Then you let them sniff the nail clipper, and try to clip a bit of just 1 nail. If it scares them, breaking a piece of spaghetti near them can get them used to the sound. Just go for as many toes as you can without them freaking out, and clip only a tiny bit off at first. If you accidentally make them bleed, it’s really bad because the pain will reverse all your hard work, so it’s better to just clip bit by bit. Over time, they’ll be chill with it. My cats are grown and I still take every opportunity to touch their paws, and all of my cats over the years have let me touch their toes and clip their nails very easily, and they’re chill with baths too, but you have to put in a lot of effort when they’re kittens.

They're both on prescription weightloss food, and it's doled out a little at a time by automatic feeders so they race to get to it. The girl will start to lose weight and have a lot more energy and jump up to places she hasn't been able to reach in years... and then she starts chasing her brother away from his food and regains her chubbiness while his weight plummets >_< One day we'll get them both to a healthy weight!

My cat always tries to bite the squeeze up treats too! I just got her the Equigroomer and she’s been letting me de-shed her little by little. She gets overstimulated quickly and then I get the order to stop when she gives a little love bite. Excellent product though. Especially during the summer. I love that I can use it on her activity tower to get all the hair off of there too. 💚

The equigroomer is just pure ecstasy for Miss Minnow! She reminds me so much of my mom’s cat. She’ll be 13 in August but you wouldn’t guess she’s a day over 5. She’s quite spry, even though she’s rather chunky, and so healthy! The ONLY health “issue” she’s ever had was the removal of a tumor on her belly that turned out to be a roughly ping-pong ball sized lump of pure fat.

She reminds me of my last cat (RIP, sweet Spider, we miss you). A total love-bug until she realizes that a grooming experience is incoming, at which point she switches into full on berserker kitty mode, only to be purring and lovey before the grooming is even halfway done because it feels *so GOOD* to get rid of all that extra fur. I swear her mental process used to be something like: "No! You can't... THIS IS NOT DIGNIFIED! Ooh! Ooh, that feels... really nice, actually. Can you just keep doing that forever, please and thank you?"

I ordered the EquiGroomer myself. My girl Pretzel was a rescue and she was without a doubt abused. Even after having her for 15 years she still doesn't trust me to do things like brush her. But the EquiGroomer arrived in the mail yesterday and she absolutely fell in love with it. Just like Minnow my Pretzel immediately devolved into a ball of purring, making biscuits, rolling around to get the other side, and bizarre poses to wherever I was brushing.

Seriously? I am, after 12 years, finally able to get my rescue, Kitty, to let me hold a men's comb up to his face. Kitty will comb his face while I hold the comb. That's it. He will not tolerate anything else but hand pets. Or the occasional spank on his back, which he loves far too much. :)

The Equigroomer I bought from you arrived today, and I decided to start desensitising my 14 week old chihuahua to it - didn't think he'd lose any fur, he still has a fuzzy puppy coat, and his long coat is still months away from developing. How wrong I was! I brush him daily, and he loses no fur, but the Equigroomer removed enough from this tiny boy that I had to vacuum my couch afterwards! He fell asleep while I brushed him with it, and he's now even softer and fuzzier than before. It's a magical little tool!

IME almost all brushes marketed as cat brushes are hated by cats, or maybe they are only meant to be used on longhairs. Our short-haired cat loved the jelly scrubber (the side with lots of little nubs, not the side with fewer big nubs) and it's good at lifting fur (lots of fur) off.
