Not every coat is identical ofc but part of it comes down to early training and getting your cat to trust you. A simple combing once a week is most of the time ok for my nearly 3y old MC. Never used a blowdryer on her yet but she's used to the sound, just in case it would be needed.

I had a Maine Coon i regularly bathed. He was abandoned (found him living/eating out of a dumpster, no chip, no tag, no missing reports) and was a mess. He took REALLY well to bathing. He just looked up at me terrified, but accepted it. But once he was done and dry, you could see the relief on his face and in his body language. Ever since then he would let me bath him with minimal fuss, and would literally *strut* around the house afterward. He knew he was gorgeous.

I did cat rescue for 10 years, bathed a lot of cats. (Once washed 14 in a day, in the shower with me one at a time, no bloodshed. They called me the cat whisperer.😸) I can't say any of them liked being wet, but many of them were clearly happier once they were clean.

@sailincat2822 I did the same. He would sit in my lap while I bathed him. Shower head on a hose with a closed feature. Would have the water on, but the shower head closed and at my side. I could reach and turn the shower head on/off as needed. He still had his limits; if I took too long, he'd fuss and occasionally inadvertently give a small scratch, but we got pretty good at finding a rhythm. He would never let me blow dry him, but I would towel him off as best as possible, and then he'd go sit and roll around on his heating pad till dry, lol.

Yep! Normally stress panting in a cat will have no major effect (besides them having a thoroughly unpleasant time) and they'll return to normal quickly, but you have to keep an eye on them -- in one of my cats, it was made more serious by his heart murmur. When his heart would beat too fast, like at the vet, it became unable to work effectively, and he would pant and become slightly hypoxic (pale gums). However, despite this minor murmur, he was a very active -- even athletic -- cat, and lived to see 15. How running top speed didn't overtax his heart, but the vet's office did, I can't quite understand.

His inner eyelid was sticking out. it turns out somewhere behind there was a large mass. They gave hm some x-rays before pulling a tooth and saw the cancer. In the span of 6 hours, we went from thinking pulling the infected tooth would make him better to putting dirt on his grave. the cancer was so intense that even if we didn't put him down, he would have died in a day or two if not hours. Oh, btw we kept taking him to the vet after nasal polyp surgery and giving him medicine and going to the holistic vet to get him ozone treatments and giving him natural medicine and all kinds of stuff. we put so many drops in his eyes and nose. I guess we're soon to expect a video that starts like this: "So. Two days ago our local zoo reached out to me. Their lion got into some sticky stuff and needs a groom. So, this is Simba, a 500 pound lion, and today we'll be doing a bath, de-matting his mane and shaving his sanitary regions. Oh, you're a big kitty, Simba. Will you get up on the table by yourself? He's really huge, in case you can't tell. I can't lift him, so unless he goes up ... Oh, that's a good boy, Simba. No, stay on the table. Good boy. Would you like a treat? No? @Beeti16 ай бұрын
She's beloved and respected because people have no clue. The cat was stressed to the point of open mouth breathing. Clearly the clients well being does not come first. It did not need any of this. Cats don't need to be bathed unless special circumstances, and this was a healthy looking cat, not dirty and not matted. Generally a cat would only need some brushing once in a while, which they usually like. This was done purely for the looks, by people who buy cats from breeders, instead of adopting cats that need a home. People who clearly have it for the looks, and this woman enables that.
@watermagegurl6276 ай бұрын
@Beeti1 Did you watch the video or did you just want make a point? If you paid attention to the video, she literally says that she changed the way she had to air blowdry Rocket because he was open mouth breathing. She specifically describes he was, changed her methods, and even said if he did not relax in the crate she would have stopped altogether. And with a Maincoone or any longhair cat, if you're not on top of them, they get matted very easily. I had a tabby and while I did not bathe her constantly, she still got a constantly brushing and taken for a hair clip so she wouldn't get any dirt stuck to her paws and butt. Cata can't get every single little thing, so it's 'not just for looks', it's general upkeep. Some don't need it because they are very healthy and take care of themselves purely through grooming, others cats can't due to health issues or other means so you help them out. Instead of being excited of talking down on the woman's profession, how about you pay attention, watch the video and learn properly. People like you are so excited to tell people their wrong and give an opinion no one asked for, but you never want to listen.

@@Beeti1 I'm Rocket's owner. First I want to say that Vanessa texted me immediatly to let me know about the blow dryer. When I picked him up he was very calm and content in his carrier and he was acting 100% himself when he got home. Thats not to say he wasn't stressed in the moment, he obviously was, but Vanessa handled it well and Rocket is absolutely fine. Now we know not to use a blow dryer on him like that. Secondly, he didn't have any mats at his appointment because I do brush him often but he does get mats pretty often. Most commonly in his thigh fur and armpit fur, the mats sometimes pop up over night and can get as big as my thumb. I can brush him everyday and somehow find a mat the next day. Brushing them out doesn't always work as its too matted or too uncomfortable for him so I have to trim them out most of the time. He also rolls around on the floor a lot and I take him outside occasionally, his long tummy and chest fur is like a duster gets stuff stuck in it. Thats why I got her to trim the areas she did. Why did he need a bath? Yes visually he looks very clean and hes generally good with grooming himself. But he gets stinky. He has so much fur that it just traps smells. When I was using clay litter the dust would cling to his fur. His butt can get especially stinky. As you can imagine he also sheds a lot. When he grooms h ends up ingesting a lot of fur which leads to massive (literally 2-3 inch long) hairballs.Brushing does help with this but I find the occasionally bath is the best to help get rid of the loose fur. I bathed him more often as a kitten to get him used to baths. Now I only bath him maybe every 2 to 3 months? Really just when he gets especially stinky or I notice hes shedding more. He rarely has hair balls because of his baths.This groom was really needed. This is his first summer eith his full coat and his hair balls in May were really bad. Since this groom he hasn't had a single one 😊 If he really didn't like baths I wouldn't put him through it but at home I've never been scratched while bathing him. He's very chill and will sit and endure it.

@@kimip156Hi @kimip156. I rarely comment, but have a few things to say: 1) it's obvious Rocket is loved and well cared for. As someone who has been a pet parent (mostly cats) for 50+ years, I could tell he was well-groomed but definitely a bit greasy. That alone would require a bath to correct because a simple wipe down usually wouldn't be enough; 2) Vanessa has always shown the utmost care for her clients, which, I'm guessing is one of the reasons you sought her out. So I hope some of the comments on here won't deter you from coming to Vanessa again in the future--or any other groomer--if you feel a groom would be in Rocket's best interest; and, 3) I do hope you nor Vanessa have taken any of the judgmental comments to heart. When Vanessa said that she thinks people must get large cats because they want lions or tigers, it wasn’t that way for me. I adopted him from our local shelter because I fell in love with his personality. With all the chaos of the adoption fair that day, they didn’t have time to examine him of his size. Because of how big he was already, they guessed he was probably about a year old. I was surprised to find out that when I brought him to the vet for his first wellness check, they told me he was still a kitten because his adult teeth were just coming in. Oops 😬

I went 'well, I knew he'd be big from the paws'. 25Lb once full grown/age 4.
