@@Vintage4815 except if the object your tightening/loosening is on the opposite side of the object you're working on or underneath and you're reaching around, then it becomes a mind twister. I actually had to learn it through my engineering course using the right hand rule. Imagine an arrow painted on your thumb and fingers pointing towards your nails. Grasp the bolt or screw (whatever will be moving) by curling your fingers around it and point your thumb like you're giving a thumbs up 👍 if you rotate the moving screw or bolt in the direction your fingers are pointing it will thread on/off in the direction your thumb is pointing. For left handed screws you just use your left hand to get the same method. Probably why they're called left handed screws.
@Nidht3 жыл бұрын
@@anastasiacline6159 That's a great method! Reminds me of how you determine magnetic field lines based on current. For bicycle pedal threading, it's mirrored. That way the left pedal doesn't unthread while you cycle! The rule here is to imagine the direction the wheels would rotate. To tighten, rotate the pedal threading in the direction the wheel would roll when moving forward, regardless of the side you're standing on, and the reverse to loosen.

@@bigpoppabotch3523 Actually, I faced a puzzle like this, just in form of a screw and a nut (right-handed, as usual, but spot welded so the nut could not be removed) and a hidden left-handed thread in the screw's head. I got to the idea of a left-handed thread being hidden somewhere pretty fast (I have some experience with gas hoses which have left-handed threads so you cannot use your water installation material for gas), but I had injured my hand a few days ago, so I couldn't apply enough force to unscrew it. The guy who gave me the puzzle had actually said that no significant force would be needed to solve it, but he had no idea how insignificant the force was I could apply. So I ended up screwing around for several minutes...well - not screwing - screwing around - even though I had guessed the solution pretty early. Of course, my prior gas installation knowledge helped.

@joratto28333 жыл бұрын
Dyslexic people can’t tell left from right??
@Mac_Omegaly3 жыл бұрын
@@joratto2833 summery: That is just one symptom of dyslexia. Dyslexia is a wide ranged definition for a brain nerve condition that can be manifested in a number of ways. And ussally to get the official diagnosis is to have something like 10 of the 37 possible manifestations. So you could have 3 people diagnosed with dyslexia but have completely different symptoms. There are also things that overlap with dyslexia but are more likely related to other more specific conditions. But yes, generally dyslexic people have confusion on in areas involving order, direction, and identifying patterns. I had problems swapping "b" and "d" when hand writting. I can point right and think "right" but say "left". I have problems with solving arithmetic in my head and swap numbers around. (Especially 3 and 7 for some odd reason.) And problems holding detailed instructions in my head in the right order. (So if you spell out a word 7 letters or longer I most likely won't be able to figure out that word.) And the previously mentioned spelling issues. *(esspecally in double letters and silent letters) Now, I have learned ways to cope with some of these issues but it is still frustrating when my brain knows to say one thing and my mouth says the other. When there are two options that are opposites (like ) I can't remember the lable for them. I hold up my hands and look for the letter L for my left hand, but they are both "L"'s to my mind *(for like 20 seconds before I think how I would write the letter.) So just like that clockwise and counterclockwise are clear different concepts but I can't recall the lable for which one will tighten or loosen the screw. *(maybe it also didn't help I had a backwards watch in middle school because I could read time faster if it was backwards.) Now there are a few different ways you can have dyslexia, including hitting your head before you are an adult. And there are cases of a girl in England that hit her head this way, got dyslexia which made everything look upside down and backwards, and struggled with it for 3 years before hitting her head again, and getting cured. You can get it from a chemical imbalance in your infant years. And there are still mysterious cases that defy explination. But if you still struggle with dyslexia as an adult, there is nothing that can be further done beyond the exercises you were most likely taught in school to help bypass areas you struggle in. Now certain kinds of Dyslexia have an advantage. Since we have to think outside the box to solve common struggles, most Dyslexic adults are able to deal with certain kinds of events better then those who have never had much of a struggle through their school life. And some of the greatest inventions have been created by dyslexic minds. *(a fun topic to search yourself.)
@joratto28333 жыл бұрын
@@Mac_Omegaly Thanks so much for the detailed reply! Totally fascinating. Like many people, I imagine, I always thought dyslexia was only about the “lexia” stuff, but of course it makes perfect sense that the abnormalities that would lead to reading trouble would also affect other forms of pattern recognition/distinction. It’s especially interesting that you say you can point right, think “right”, and yet still say “left”. If you don’t mind me asking, how?? Is it in any way related to split-brain syndrome, which renders the speech centre of the brain unable to communicate with other parts?
@Mac_Omegaly3 жыл бұрын
@@joratto2833 I would have to dig up and research more what the exsact differance is. And not all dyslexics have this particular issue, but my guess is that certain binary data is swapped like a flipped lens in a telescope with my issue. While the split brain issue would be more like a dirty lens in the telescope. (At least that's how the differance was explained to me.) The right and left sides of the brain are importaint to have good communication with each other. But Dyslexia can sometimes effect only one side of a person's brain. One might guess that a person could have both problems. But I am no expert and don't personally know much on this subject. And the only reason I know a bit about it, is because I have the issue and wrote a paper on Dyslexia about 15 years ago. So my knowledge is a bit old on the subject. The human brain and the nervous system is a wonder on many levels. And there is a lot of things we still have to learn about them, and will still learn about long into the future.

Left handed threading doesn't exist, it's called reverse threading. Left handed people have no issue with normal screws, being one myself I can confirm.

I don't think I would solve this one even after seeing the solution now.

This is truly a paradox of a puzzle. The most difficult puzzle was infact so, because the solution was so simple nobody would have guessed it

I actually wondered if it would have an unusual way of unscrewing it that wasn't I.immediately obvious. Pleased to have been proven right. They key itself is quite Steampunk actually. I would probably wear it as a necklace if I had one like it. Great work as always, Mr Puzzle. 👍I never tire of your vids.
