I actually met Herb myself. I won an electronic music composition competition in New York and it was AWESOME to have him listen to and critique my piece. It was an honor to shake this man's hand

Thanks for uploading this. Herb came to our elementary school in 1966 or 67 and demonstrated the prototype to us in the auditorium. He explained piezoelectricity in terms we could understand, and showed how to tune it with a tuning fork. I think he was amplifying the sound with a tube amp, because I think I remember seeing the tubes glowing. It was very memorable and inspiring.

I would love a shifty, drifty original minimoog! Those pieces were dreams realized, actualized... their imperfections were just another truly human component of the piece. Yet another connection between the info coming down in inspiration, being built into a circuit that can be played, given to an artist who connects with that same inspiration from beyond and makes music that opens the door to a spectator to get there as well, that Dr. Moog would speak of often. They were all PERFECT! :)

During my one semester stint at Hofstra U. in 1989 (eventually graduating from NYU - Hofstra sucked), getting a more advanced electronic music education from this fine gentleman was worth the dough essentially wasted. He was a true innovator - and at that time, the classroom had a heap of classic Moog synths and the ephemeral patch cables. More people should know Herb's name. Hope he's still going strong.

I've met Herb Deutsch eight times between June 2000 and April 2006. I highly value his friendship, despite having missed the opportunity to be one of his students. I've also had the pleasure of meeting/jamming with Neil Alexander.

Neil definitely knows how to present equipment to the best of its potential. It was wicked when he decided to get his own Minimoog Voyager.

Would you believe... I had the amazing pleasure of meeting Herb (your father-in-law) at the Moog Factory this past weekend at MoogFest?? . I was a finalist in the Moog Circuit Bending Challenge and we were all checking out a private Primus jam in the Moog SoundLab. What a really nice guy! Tell him Drew Blanke "Dr Blankenstein" (the guy who actually brought a tie to moogfest, he will know what you are talking about :) says "hello" and "it was GREAT TO MEET HIM" !

I took his electronic music class at Hofstra in 2000 and he brought his minimoog in one day and played this for us...he said it was the demo he performed to sell them. I think it's the same song. A real treat.

Fantastic video! I found the first part, the documentary, very interesting, but when the song started, I was totally blown away. What a marvel to see how Mr. Deutsch has kept his wits about him. Thanks for the upload, Mr. Michael Sterling.

Just to clarify: there was 3 versions of the oscillators board. The original one from 1971, which was not very good as far as staying in tune, as Herb has mentioned here. A second one, now called "old one" which is the more common one, and which Herb has put inside this one. And finally, a "new one", with a more sophisticated temperature control for even more stable tuning and which was installed on serial number 10175 and up until the end of the production run. White switches are the originals.

I've always enjoyed Herb's interviews. However, there's nothing like a killer Jazz/fusion performance to remind us why we have synthesizers. I generally keep my Minimoog Voyager packed away, but after this performance, I may think again.

I would have liked to hear Herb play back in his heyday, you can tell he probably has some arthritus or other neurolgical issues going on in his hands now, but I bet he ripped it up back in the day. If anyone has any information on Herb's background as a player or any links to him playing that would be cool to hear.
