Immediately, you answered my question in mind when you said ‘there’s no such thing as minor CAGE system’ followed by your clear and concise explanation. So far, you simply clarified 2 topics that are controversial and/or unclear to me. This information is worth a gem! Thank you Brian.

Just finished going through this lesson bit ago. Compared to a caged dvd i watched years ago that took weeks to get through. I learned more in 15 min with this video. The roots on low E A and D determining the shape, as well as where caged theory fits into the music as the 2nd layer presented so well!! 👌 🎨 AND EXPLAINING FROM THE START SOME OF THE SHAPES WERE IMPOSSIBLE😂😂😂 thought my hands were just to jacked up from years working to ever get decent at guitar from other teachers caged lessons i wont mention.. to the point excellently presented as always. Taking a couple day sanity break from learning reaper recording software stuff to dive deaper into lessons. Love all the charts and fretboard scale diagrams in the lessons by the way didnt notice scrolling down at first. No longer searching for scale diagrams to practice ect. All wonderful presentation. 👏 👏 🧟‍♂️ thank you Brian!

Can I ask a question please? When you locate a given chord how do you plug in the correct box pattern over the top to be in key for lead guitar playing e.g. the G major chord for example appears in 3 different keys but is there an easy way of identifying which of the 5 traditional box patterns goes around the chord per key
@zombieguitar
@zombieguitar Жыл бұрын
Good question! What you are asking about is what I always refer to as "layer 1". Assuming the key remains constant (super common in mainstream music), then layer 1 also remains constant. For example if the chord progression was G D Em C, then your "layer 1" would be the G major/E minor scale. You could break this down into 5 "patterns" if you wanted, and those would be the 5 pentatonic positions for the key of G major/E minor. All that is "layer 1", and that remains constant the whole time. The CAGED system is about "layer 2" which is the chord shapes, which change as the chords do! 🎸

What confuses me at times is what pentatonic shape goes with each shape. The actual pentatonic scale patterns are different between a maj or a minor chord. Personally this confuses me although obviously they are going to be different but for me is difficult working it out in real time. Thanks for another bang on video.
@zombieguitar
@zombieguitar Жыл бұрын
The reason you are finding this confusing is because you are still trying to treat the CAGED system as a "layer 1" system, when in reality it is all about "layer 2". Here's an old one, but should help explain what I mean 🎸: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pXrXZnljhNKdidUsi=zyTJ8lgSNl77vnLI

@@zombieguitar Would level two be learning the chord tones and arpeggios for each chord? A bit gutted as I thought I had it nearly twigged and now realize I actually know just about Jack but will keep plodding I am only 70 got a couple more years hopefully, cheers Brian
@zombieguitar
@zombieguitar Жыл бұрын
@@martynspooner5822 yes...chord tones, arpeggios, "keeping up with the chord changes", triad soloing, "chord chasing", etc. This is all stuff that the CAGED system will allow you to do. Yes, there is a connection between the CAGED chord shapes and the pentatonic scale patterns, but fixating on that one single thing will cause you to completely miss the primary benefit of what the CAGED system has to offer. This is what I rant about over and over and over again all the time 😁
@martynspooner5822
@martynspooner5822 Жыл бұрын
@@zombieguitar Is this right, if the chords for example are C F G as in demo, can I solo over C using the pentatonic patterns I know for C and then when it goes to F use the pentatonic patterns I know that go with the shapes of F and the same with G. I am meaning if there is time not on really quick changes. Because that way I am aware of the 1 3 5 in each chord having learned the caged patterns. Or am I just totally lost here.

For the last three years, I must have watched one of the most successful videos you have made, over and over, and over again .... the lesson/video better known as "The Most Comprehensive CAGED Lesson Ever!!" (kzbin.info/www/bejne/bJzJi4eBbttmqrs) However, despite all these numerous views, I'm thoroughly ashamed to say I didn't fully grasp the "minor" aspect that you addressed in Section 6. This new additional lesson covers and compliments the minor aspect brilliantly, and I especially love the way you included the Inversion shapes involved in the patterns. I now fully appreciate that minor chords are not a separate entity, but fully part of the CAGED system. Bravo Brian .... another interesting mission fully accomplished in your own unique way!!! 😎😎😎

@@zombieguitar Been a subscriber for 5 years. I have learned from you. We all make mistakes. Meant to be light hearted not a critique. The subject of this video is a good one. It tripped me up a few years ago. Seems caged is often taught with the five positions of the pentatonic scale each having a corresponding MAJOR chord. That causes some to wonder about MINOR chords over the same Pentatonic scale positions. Everything cleared up for me when I learned a little more theory. Just flatten the third of the major chord and your good to go. Appreciate you. Thank you for the help you given me.
