@@thinkinghmmmm was she actually winning though? I didn't see the whole fight, but that's not what I heard. I heard that she was getting out struck and she was forced to grapple as a result of that. Valentina said that grappling was part of her game plan, but I'm not buying it. She's supposed to be the best striker in women's MMA and she decided to grapple instead of strike? It just doesn't add up to me.

Ariel, as a licensed MMA judge, I completely agree. It is so frustrating seeing unqualified individuals officiating with 0 MMA training. It just leaves a sour taste in my mouth as it constantly leaves a poor image. You’re correct how the UFC and other big promotions have an influence with the commissions on officials which is why you see a lot of “regular names” officiating while they still squeeze in some officials of that state.

The rant about Texas I largely agree with save for one thing. I personally think they should have MORE ex-refs, fighters, practitioners etc as judges. Dan may not have judges a fight for 23 years but I can all but guarantee he knew more about MMA and the judging criteria than any of the other buffoons up there. I understand it can be difficult to find people without biases or allegiances, but let’s be honest the current judges are so swayed by the public image of fighters (See Paddy, Barber) that I think that’s a non-factor.

Most of the guys are making under 10 k , with or without a win bonus, finishing bonus are all at play here too . If you want to see a striker vs a striker, they have boxing or kickboxing you can watch. Sean gets beaten by aljo, merab, cejudo, and Corey. You don't have to like it, but those are facts.

Maybe I’m in the minority but I blame the system not the Texas judges. Cory won the fight yes but he also was point fighting the whole time. I don’t recall any close submissions or Vera taking much damage. There’s an argument chito did all in his damage in the final 3 rounds which is why it’s possible he won them. If the system wouldn’t reward fighters for getting up 2 or 3 rounds then coasting then Cory would’ve had to keep his feet on the gas. Just look at the difference of output in the first 2 rounds instead of the last 2. This is why we want human judges for the human element and corys face wasn’t exactly shiny towards the end.

That ref / judge is crooked in my opinion. -No history. -On fury card, resists more than is in any way reasonable calling the first fight a submission win. -on ufc card, ensures that the victory is a split decision if not a knockout, but scoring first two rounds honestly, and last 3 rounds to get split decision. Dude should be investigated.

OF COURSE Ariel was on his phone at a comedy show AND fell asleep. I'm just surprised he didn't stand up and complain about a joke, for the trifecta
