8:30 Octopus guy made the observation Monkey King is more of a Rebel. But actually we _do_ see him again. In the underworld. 10:25 I felt like the Staff was telling him he had that power, rather then granting it to him. In fact he explicitly used that power without "Stick". 10:50 I expect that he learned the transformation after 500 years of meditating. 11:00 Yes, unexpected. A proper MIB shooting test.

As someone that usually HATES and avoids recommendations (even completely innocent ones) and has a hard time sitting to watch a movie at all, this is a hell of an accomplishment! I think Wukong didn't get his cloning ability from the staff, I think it just simply told him that he could do that Because Wukong has other powers without his staff (like the laser eyes) he just doesn't know how to use them At least that's how I understood it

Yeah he uses it in his fight against Ao Guang when he’s powered up by Stick so he just doesn’t know what he is capable of before that moment, he is explicitly said to be made from magic after all.

We're getting a lot of Monkey King and Journey To The West content recently, and it's great really, this movie is pretty good adaptation as well I can't wait when Mythology Guy reacts to Lego Monkie Kid (unless he did already and i missed it) cuz this show and movies are masterpieces and have quite a lot of myth references especially in the newer ones (I did spot MK Mecha on background in a few videos tho)

I know this might be an odd request, but I was curious if you could watch “The Lego Monkie Kid” and do a review on it. I was wondering on how much the show gets right about the mythology, and see what you genuinely think of it. Or, if you could do “American Born Chinese” which also has to do with the monkey king and other stuff from the mythology.

Well, I didn't see it and I noticed some creative choices and changes from the original mythology, one of the biggest ones is that in the book Red Sun was called Red boy and was already a young adult/teenager during the journey to the west, but in the show it is said that he was a baby during the end of the journey. Another point is that Macaque and Wukong were not friends in the original story, but Wukong was convinced by a queen called Macaque(in the book Macaque also had white fur, so if you look for him online you will find him being drawn by artists with white fur and real six ears instead of just two) And the most obvious one, the gold and silver twins, they are killed and turned human in the original story, but in the show not only are they demons again but they also come back for revenge. And Lady Bone Demon wasn't a big deal in the original story and was just a demon of the week, She also didn't seem to have a connection to the heavens either. I recommend overly sarcastic productions, They who taught me more about the original story but with a touch of humor.

I watched this movie when i was looking for movies and tv shows about sun wukong on netflix. And so, I watched the movie and I had a really fun time with it. It was like you said, this is kinda like Disney's Hercules. Although I would say that this movie is more accurate to the original story than Disney's Hercules. But it was still a very fun movie to watch and I hope they make a sequel to it where Sun Wukong escorts Tripitaka on the Journey to the West.

EXACTLY! Finally, someone who gets it. I thought so too by comparing that to Hercules as well. 😁 Especially when they had a supposed antagonist accompanied by two "comic relief" underlings in pink and blue just like Hades' Pain and Panic. I did indeed view some of the comparisons between the film and the novel like he didn't get trained under Subhuti because they didn't have the Monkey King worry about his limited life and inevitable death. Or that he didn't go to hell via death, but he did wipe his name off the book of death. Or his way of attaining immortality. At least that's one of the moments where he did pee on Buddha's finger when he traveled at the edge of the universe. Edit: Actually, we get to see the same cuttlefish/squid that the Dragon King ate in hell as a spirit.

I was impressed with how close this movie came to the source material. Not one to one, but still pretty close. I had a fun time with it, my favorite part of it was Monkey's friendship with his weapon stick, and I also loved the energy of the Dragon King. It honestly made me wish this was a series where we got the escapades of monkey, stick, and just kicking demon butt. Oh well, still fun nonetheless.
