I will say rock is a genuinely awful type in monotype. And that’s why I love it in monotype. You’re doing the most Sisyphusian task possibly but you can still win with its sheer power

I understand your hesitancy for making this list before, but now that this generation is coming to a close this is a good time to do it. It's nice to look back on how things shook out in gen 8. As for the list itself, I think it's pretty agreeable. I would personally put Electric a bit higher but that might just be my own bias lol. Poor Fighting, I really hope gen 9 gives it literally anything to make it worthwhile haha.

Mono-Normal Main here. Played a lot of high ladder with hyper offense+Blissy and sat at top 30 for a wile. Matchup experience is very op and normal acquires it very easily. Nathan is right that roles are very defined, this makes figuring out your win con very easy. I win a lot because with mono normal it is clear as day what I need to protect and what needs to be removed. Even at high ladder Blissy can win games by just crashing choised mons into the physical attackers until there are only special attackers left. Bewear is the goat and gives you the opportunity to body ghost, steel, dark, poison and water. Normals worst matchup is fire BY FAR. 1-9. Cinderace 6-0's the entire monotype roster for free. Even if they give you Cinderace for free you are still very disadvantaged to win the 5v6.

I’m really interested in playing mono-normal, any others tips you could give?
@brennantmi5063
@brennantmi5063 Жыл бұрын
@@graffitiwands5993 Blissy and ditto are very good at "Checkmating" the opponent. Most of my games are about figuring out what pokemon need to be removed in order to checkmate the opponent. Mono normal also has a lot of pokemon that are free setup fodder, but having a ditto in a back completely nullifies that weakness. Chose band Bewear with double edge does 70%+ to all three of poisons tri-regeneartor core and will 2 hit ko them before the recoil takes out Bewear. Most poison and water trainers don't know this and get very confused and sad when they switch in toxipex and it loses most of it's health rendering it useless. I like to pair banded Bewear with specs expanding force Indeedee to blow gaping holes in the other team. I know a lot of normal trainers like scarf Indeedee and find success with it, but mono normal has no shortage of good scarfers and with specs if all the opponents pokemon have less than 317 speed, specs Indeedee with sweep their entire team no questions asked. Checkmate. As for the other slots you have Diggersby, Heliolisk, and Braviary. Having a ground type is huge in the meta, but Diggersby is slow and frail with minimal utility. Since Normal has power to spare Diggersby not that useful, although I think there is unexplored potential with a double dance set with agility and swords dance as agility makes Diggersby very good. Heliolisk is a bad pokemon that is too frail to help in the water match up that is only good at being a fast volt switch user. Some teams love a fast volt switch users, but not many. Braviary is a diet Staraptor that can either be a great scarfted pivot or an acceptable physical wall. I will almost always take one on my mono normal teams for some role due to it's amazing synergy with Blissy and Bewear, your two best pokemon. As for other options Obstagoon is weak, Snorlax is weak, the poygons are weak, there are very limited. The secret sauce that got me near the top of the ladder was specs boomburst Exploud. It acts like a second Indeedee that can overwork an opponents special sponge to bring it in range for indeedee to be able to finish off and run wild. It also is deceptively bulky and can often live a stray unboosted hit and oneshot the opponent back effectively making it a 5v5 match, something that favors normal. I find it leads very well in about half my matches. Thus my go to team was boots Blissey with Banded Bewear, Scarf on Bravirary and ditto, with specs on Indeedee and Exploud. You have to be clinically insane to play a team like that, but I am. Normal has enough flexibility so that you don't have to play an all in team like that; if you build a normal team I think you need boots Blissey, scarf ditto, choised Indeedee and a Bewear. Some kind of Bravirary too. There a quite a few ways to model that core to your liking with the sixth slot being able to bring in a flex slot to fill out what ever style you are going for.

I think that monotype in my opinion is focused very strongly on the strength of your type defensively rather than offensively. Even traditionally offensive types such as flying, electric, and ghost, that are very strong, have qualities that make them great defensive types in monotype, namely immunities or singular weaknesses. The worst three types Rock, Fighting, and if you exclude grass because it's not really offensive or defensive, Psychic, are all weak to very common types and, even if they have very strong offensive capabilities, don't have chances against types they lose to.

Rip me by two favorite types are rock and grass. My thoughts on Rock psychic and fighting are that every monotype team wants to have a Pokemon with that secondary typing on their team and makes great use of it, but making a whole team out of that is bad news. They can compliment a team really nicely but their flaws show up too harshly if they're the only thing on the team

Hey there. Love the content. My friend recommended this to me about a week ago and I'm watching vids from months ago already. That being said I wanna go against the grain here and argue rock should absolutely be higher than bottom of the barrel. Ive been a mono rock player for years and am arguing the subtypes of rock Pokemon are what do them in rather than the type themselves. Nihilago for example gets much more play than not TTar Rock types. Why? Poison subtyping gives it a modern competitive edge. Rock types might lean towards higher defense stats but their subtypes put them in a situation where they're much more likely to be hit by a super effective attack. Again, much love to the content. Looking forward to the next vid.

It’s unfortunate there aren’t any grass types with flash fire. Water types have a sap sipper mon and tons of moms not weak to grass, fire types have a water absorb mon, grass types really need a flash fire and it may take another gen to get that. Thick fat mega venusaur was the best counter but unfortunately, until that comes back, Cradily with a rock move is pretty much the only option. Also dash breloom with spore and rock tomb can help and a scarf virizion with stone edge are other possible answers…maybe a chlorophyll earth power venusaur in the right matchup. It’s tough sledding. I hate when I go against mono fire and mono flying but every once in a blue moon, I do win with mono grass. Fire against grass is probably one of the most lopsided matchups in monotype

Man Psychic types have just really fallen off the cliff because of soo many changes made that just hinder their viability. Dark and Ghost no longer getting their stab resisted by steels is soo huge for those types ESPECIALLY Ghost. Knock Off getting a base power increase when a pokemon is carrying a held item is horrendous for psychic types. Pursuit being gone was really nice but there needs to be more done honestly. Psychic in general has just been getting an absolute beating. It's crazy to think about that even with U-Turn, Shadow Ball, and Knock off everywhere in the later gens. SOMEHOW Psychic types are still somehow good and in some tiers are some of the best pokemon in the tier in 6v6 smogon singles tier. I mean Calyrex-S, Necrozma-Dusk-Mane are the kings in Ubers, Metagross, Gardevoir, Starmie actually really good in UU. It would be nice if Psychic got more resistances or something because Dark and Ghost getting these massive buffs is really messing up Psychic types hard. Like if even MEWTWO of all pokemon is getting power crept on you know there's an issue.
@RabblesTheBinx
@RabblesTheBinx 11 ай бұрын
Dark-type got neutral vs. Steel as a trade-off for picking up a new weakness and type that resists it. One that was applied to a whole bunch of already good Psychic-types.
@destructorthedestroyer7651
@destructorthedestroyer7651 11 ай бұрын
@@RabblesTheBinx I mean that's true but Ghost is soo stupidly overpowered as a type. Its immune to 2 types, and has 2 resistances to bug and poison for some reason. That's soo stupid in itself and Ghost hits almost everything for neutral or super effective with ONLY normal types having an immunity and normal types are pretty garbage and lower tier and Dark types being really good but pretty much mandatory on every team. It pretty much makes psychic soo much worse because of that. We've kind of reached this point where honestly Psychic just is a terrible type these days. Like Steel resists, Dark is immune, takes Super Effective from Ghost, Dark and Bug and resists practically nothing besides Fighting and who cares about resisting Psychic. I'm amazed that Psychic types are somehow still able to be good in a meta so stacked against them its crazy. This type chart they made needs some massive overhauls like Psychic needs MORE resists and 1 immunity at the very least and nerf the hell out of Ghost and nerf Knock Off because its stupid. Knock Off is already good even at a low base power it doesn't need a buff lol.
