Don't care if I get hate, Godzilla 2014 will be my all time favorite Monsterverse film, and one of my favorite Godzilla movies ever made. I don't care how many times someone says "tHe ChaRactERs aRE nOT intEResting.", the death of Bryan Cranston was objectively a narrative mistake, leading the main character of the movie (Ford Brody) to be quite uninteresting. But, in a way, that could be the point. The way the monsters are shot from a human perspective, makes the people feel insignificant when faced with things they can't comprehend, hence the theme of this movie. Ford Brody's purpose is to show the audience the Titans through his perspective, in that sense, he COMPLETELY succeeds in his role. Sure, he is uninteresting, but then you're ignoring the characters purpose. This is why I respect what a characters purpose is in the future Monsterverse movies no matter how uninteresting they can get. Now, Godzilla himself. The many people bitching about about Godzilla lacking screentime completely ignore his purpose. The MUTOS are running around the planet finding each other so they can mate and lay eggs, which is obviously a threat to the humans. So, they try to handle the situation by themselves, which fails countless times throught the movie, again, making the humans useless. This is where Dr. Serizawa comes in, since he is the only one who believes that this can only be handled by Godzilla, hence, the "Let them fight" speech. So, what happens at the end of the movie? Godzilla does it by himself, and wins. THAT is Godzilla's purpose, a lone warrior who no one trusts at first until he handles the situation by himself with no ones permission, an embodiment of nature itself. The level of mystery surrounding the character makes every scene he's in, memorable. And fans just shrug this all off and say "He iSNt iN tHe MOVie eNOugh." I like how the MUTOS, don't seek world domination or some crazy goal, they're just animals, doing what animals do. Godzilla kills them because they're a threat to him and those many MUTOS could potentially cause a lot of chaos around the world. This movie also NAILS the consistency of the tone, the movie even sometimes turns into horror, like the Female MUTO scene on the train tracks. There is some deep, existential horror you can feel knowing these Titans exist in the world, that's what made fictional characters like the Cthulu so popular. The only Monsterverse movies that have even come close to 2014 for me is Kong : Skull Island and KOTM, mostly KSI. There are even more reasons I absolutely ADORE 2014, but I wont since I don't want this to be TOO long. Gareth Edwards had an amazing direction and eye for this movie, and I truly appreciate him for making this movie FEEL different. Long live the king.

The showa era is still my favorite since I was a kid and I love seeing it continued today with Legacy having new directors each film just like Toho, is it great for continuity perhaps not but I'm not going to complain about continuity in my Kaiju films because having many directors just gives us many views on the G-man like The Serious(Atomic bomb metaphors), the fun the action(Monsters destroying cities while fighting eachother), The Nostalgia(seeing old scenes brought back to life). My favorite to date is Michael Dougherty's King of the Monsters but I do appreciate Adam Wingard and his financial success for the series.

The talk of the left open plot thread of Alan Jonah at the end of KOTM got me thinking. They missed out on including them in the last two movies. But they could still find a way, maybe they keep with the same “let the titans rule” mentality and in turn constantly are actively hacking and attacking monarch containment sites thinking man shouldn’t meddle in the affairs of nature and that if they need this kind of confinement then maybe Godzilla isn’t the balance he needs to be.

I don't care what anybody says 14 minutes of Godzilla, in a Godzilla move is unforgivable. I don't care how good the script is or the acting of the characters that where not here to see. I've watched all the Godzilla movies multiple times since I was a kid. But not this one, I appreciate it for keeping the legacy of Godzilla going.

Godzilla's screen time in the original 1954 film was around 8 minutes, his screen time in Minus One was around 11-12 minutes. The average amount of screen time that Godzilla gets in his films is usually around 10-15 minutes.

@@mackenziecarver6807 In a way it's not really the amount of screen time that matters, it's more about how that screen time is used. The Xenomorph in Alien and the shark in Jaws only have about 4 minutes of screen time, yet that time is used effectively.

GVK was such a wasted potential movie, especially with Michael Doughety's script. Instead of interesting world-building and a developing monarch, we get a movie that is more action focused than substance.
