i would like a walk through from beginning to end of the chateau...every room. would give everyone a sense of the actual size. its difficult to imagine country houses when you only see them a room at a time but if you are in bed and forgot your phone in the kitchen the reality of a 15 min walk to get it brings the size into focus. thanx steph!

Watching this at the start of April, my heart broke when she hopefully mentioned that they could break even this year. @@lorrainequigley6389 , thankfully Stephanie's paetron blew up, shortly after this video I would say, her peatron is bringing in around $23,000 / mos right now. So, they have been able to use this money to tackle some of the bigger projects and from what I understand the work has started on the inside of the chapel and they've started to work on getting the lake back. Now, paetron isn't a "guaranteed" income, it's guaranteed for that month, but people can drop off at any time, so I think she is being very fiscally responsible by not going crazy with new reno's and likely banking what she can to build up a good solid nest egg.

Ridiculous. It's more costly and less efficient. Nuclear power (especially in France) would be the most sane solution. How well do you think heating a chateau would work out in a cloud covered dark winter dependent on solar (or wind) ? Fossil fuels would be excellent. It's unfortunate energy costs are going up so much due to the subsidies towards unreliable energy. Actually it's morally criminal.
@maxfuchs33874 жыл бұрын
@@Avidcomp you are absolutely ridiculous. Solar is by far the cheapest solution, just not always available. But it is most time. Nuclear power is one of the most expensive energy sources available. But with heating I agree with you, especially in a Chateau for the next 15 years probably Oil is the way to go.
@eledatowle71284 жыл бұрын
@@maxfuchs3387 I agree with you, plus for those cloudy periods, there is now a great electricity storage option - Both Tesla Powerwall and Pica Energy (made in Maine) offer modern electricity storage to carry you through until the sun comes out again.
@SuzOfNine4 жыл бұрын
@@Avidcomp I thought that it worked on a system where you use the solar energy in the summer and any excess goes into (is sold to) the national grid and builds up credit on your energy account, so that in the winter when you're not generating energy your surplus credit covers the bills when you're drawing energy from the national grid in those months. Admittedly there's the initial installation costs but that only takes a couple of years to break-even on, and solar systems are much more affordable (and smaller in size) than they used to be. Even just a couple of small panels wold supplement daily energy costs significantly.

Yeah, I agree with you. She should explain how that works because it looks like people are just coming over to live in a chateau, eat her out of her monthly bills, and the total lack of privacy. She can't even enjoy opening her gifts because there is always someone digging in so that she doesn't have the opportunity of being surprised. Too many people around! I don't think its a good idea, especially with the many valuables that are all around the chateau. There appears to be NO SECURITY. I worry for her. What's so hard to see with all the old chateau's and beautiful buildings around the world is the fact that they all had a mote around them and the villages that produced free electricity once upon a time and for some reason, these greedy tyrants dried up and filled in all the canals and took away our free current of electricity. Yes, we all had free electricity flowing through the town's via canal systems and collecting energy into glass jars that fed electricity into these beautiful homes. We also had air ships that transported us from one country to another, all running on hydrogen... Watermills that helped power the cities were also a big part of them. I sigh at what beautiful places all around the world must have been like. Just breath taking!!

I am very surprised by the geothermal not being more effective at heating your home. Perhaps it’s more a case of insulation not being sufficient at keeping the chateau warm enough, or a better heat exchanger system. I agree with the other comments - a solar farm somewhere on your property supplementing your electrical usage could be so helpful.

Hello Stephanie - I'd like to pick you up on the cost of hiring personel - You say that if an employee is paid €20 000 pa the employer has to pay nearly 100% in charges (health, unemployment, safety etc) on top, bringing the cost of hiring your employee up to €40 000 pa - This seems to me to be a huge over-estimate !! - In fact the charges are imposed according to several "regimes" - The self-employed artisans (plumbers, electricians, brickies etc) pay the highest rate at around 75% - If you have created a business which operates under the French equivalent of a Ltd Co then your charges should be around 50% of the gross salary for each employee - Another interesting level of operating which you might explore if you haven't yet considered it would be to create une Association Loi 1901 - This is by far the cheapest way of setting up an operation and if you get a N° Siret you will be able to employ staff and pay far less in employment charges - around 30% per employee - I have been living in France for over 25 years and used this latter as a means of running a business - The "disadvantage" with Associations is that all profits must remain within the Association - But with your kind of business I don't think this will be any problem for you, as you seem to have other sources of income outside of what would be your Association's income - What's more you would have the right to ask for subsidies from your Commune, Department and maybe the Region - This doesn't mean that you will automatically get them of course !! - But I suggest it as maybe another source of income you could look into - In any case I hope all this info is useful - Good luck and Bon Courage - Best wishes

Love your love for château living costs. I've been to parts of France, ( not your regular tourist areas, I have a dear friend that lives in Toulon;) What I've seen, I can't help feeling the want, to live somewhere in France. But I believe my traveling days are over. My disability has slowed me down; thus seeing these programs makes me feel so good, proud and so very appreciative of others who can/enjoy taking on these projects. GOD BLESS YOU ALL, Great work on your sharing your budget expenses with us.🙌:-) 🙌:-) 👵

Have you thought of putting up a solar panel or two somewhere.? maybe somewhere not directly in sight lines from chateau but that provides some of your electric needs

I know it’s not France 🇫🇷 but my Great Aunt built a very nice French country house in Alabama complete with working outside shutters, large Palladian windows & interior pocket shutters, Gorgeous plaster moldings & solid hardwood floors all over. Thanks to her husbands expert engineering that house has stood solid for 50 years with barely a leak. So, maybe new, maybe smaller isn’t so bad. But I love the inspiration of your channel !! Owning a full size chateau isn’t for the faint of heart and wonderful for all you enjoy it so much. God bless.

Perhaps you woud consider planting willow on the land and you could pollard it each year once it reaches a reasonable height. They are profuse growers especially in your zone in the heart of France. They make good heat for wood stoves which would certainly help heat the place in winter I remember you saying the hallway upstairs makes the chimneys unusable but perhaps there is a way. Willows easily grow by sticking a cutting in the earth and there are over a thousand beautiful varieties. That would beautiful the grounds as well.

Very interesting-- it's a lot of work but I would love it. Just the history alone is exciting, and restoration, and process. Beautiful. You likely have Veterinary Expenses, and animal food etc. as well. It's good there are ghosts who help out as well! ❣️🏰❣️
