More of everything coming in future updates. More bodies, more story, more haunting events, etc. The idea of expanding the embalming process is a lot more work but I'd love to do it. We'll see what I can dream up because, I agree, it would be great to add more especially with embalming only mode coming in the future. I really appreciate the kind words at the end AND the constructive criticism. It's extremely valuable. Again, thank you so much for playing!

If I understand Rebecca's story: The "Don't look, come to grandma" is when her mother dies of a drug overdose. Grandma is trying to get a very young Rebecca to come to her and leave the house/situation. No idea where dad is or why. But we're pretty sure dad also does drugs or drinks due to his sobriety coin - but due to it saying "5 years" vs. Rebecca's "10 years" that tells us he hadn't been sober long before his death. Rebecca goes down the same path as her parents and gets into drugs [and possibly alcohol]. Her dad attempts to get sober to set a good example for his daughter. She goes on a bender [likely due to that phone call to go party with her kit] and goes missing. Her dad helps look for her and finds her at the bottom of a ravine/cliff. The ground is wet - and based on when she is pushed off of something into the water I assume that she crawled out and the ground around her was wet from whatever the water source is. Due to dad being nearby after finding Rebecca, his shoes are wet so when he comes back after telling the cops he found you, he slips and falls and hits his head and is killed instantly. His body tumbles off the cliff. After dad dies Rebecca tries to go sober and either due to his death and withdraw or just due to the stress/depression of his death, she's put into an institution where she tries to kill herself. Some how, she survives [likely was found] and manages to recover enough to be released and goes to live with her grandmother until she can manage on her own. She goes to school to become a mortician and then that's where our story starts. The closure is to know that she didn't become like her mother and just give up on life before overdosing later - but also that she isn't the reason her dad died. His death was an accident. Even if he was there because of her, it's not her fault he slipped and fell. And he knows that she's on the path she needed to be [likely his death included] to push her to this place to do the things she needed to do to not only get that closure, but to help others in the way that she needed to be helped. Closure.

I think what I like most about this game is that the mortician/mortuary aspect of the game is just a setting. The main scares have to do with demons and possession and Rebecca’s trauma, not the aspect of being a mortician. Most games often use the whole “dead people surrounding you” as the main scares, but this game is just “sadly you’ve landed in this job and now demons are using dead bodies to communicate.” It feels very creative.

@hishamabdulla4382 Жыл бұрын

@luciiferous2 жыл бұрын
To answer Sean's question about body expiration: typically a body can be kept at room temp after death for about 3-ish days without starting to smell, and around 4 or 5 before outward signs of decay start to show up (depending on the environment). It's generally light enough to cover up with incense if you're doing an unembalmed viewing, as long as it doesn't take more than a week. Weather and ambient humidity also plays a role in that. However, most bodies going for embalming are put in cold storage, and they can last quite a while in there with minimal decay! Morticians are also capable (and frequently required) to embalm and restore bodies left unattended for much longer than optimal circumstances. This is happening more often as the population ages and people aren't found in a reasonable time. A skilled mortician can repair a lot of that surface damage if the family asks for a viewing. I graduated mortuary school back in 2019 the accuracy of how you embalming in this game is 95%. Usually the incision between the collar bone and neck for men, woman are embalm through the femoral artery. Also usually we massage the body to help the fluids flow and the Trocar doesn’t need that big of a extension to inject the cavity fluids. Then again it’s different for every mortuary. To answer your question about the body it all depends on where it was found before the embalming. If the person died that day it’s the best because the blood hasn’t fully clotted yet. If the body was kept in the body cooler for a certain about of time the skin becomes discolored, rigor mortis sets more making it harder to properly massage the body and the lay the body in the proper position.

I kinda like it that way, it doesn’t override the player’s own reaction. It could get annoying fast if they make the character scream with a reaction more extreme than the player-seeing as the game is designed to be replayed the players reaction will be less fearful each time, so the character continuing to scream to each scare like it’s the first time you’ve seen it would get old really fast. I feel like the game dev put a heap of thought into replayability when designing the game and wouldn’t be surprised if that influenced such a choice, especially if they had horror streamers in mind knowing their audiences want to hear the streamer scream, not the game characters.

As a funeral director of almost three years, I’ve found from my experience each deceased is completely different every time. Factors such as: if they passed away in hospital, at home or unfortunately weren’t found for days +, if they’ve had a post mortem, if they’ve been in temperature controlled situations, what they passed away from! That’s a big thing, deceased’s with cancer are completely different to those who had a heart attack, or sudden death etc. That will depend on how long they ‘last’. Embalming is a big thing but it’s completely up to the family if they’d like the process to take place, and either way it’s down to us to monitor, look for any signs of change and keep them in temp controlled situations ourself to keep them looking their best self for the longest time. Some of my people can look amazing for three weeks with loads of visits from family, some unfortunately only get to have one visit. You cannot put a time frame on how long each person will look good for, it’s a day by day process!! Edited to add: age also plays a big factor. Older people that where fragile when alive tend to show signs of deterioration faster, where as (sadly) very very young people, I’ve found, tend to look okay for longer Also my upbringing was completely normal, my mum has always been supportive of what I’ve wanted to do (since I was 10, currently 23) and as far as I’m aware, I’m completely normal 🤣

The best part of this game is how in the 2 of 5 ending, you start to feel hopeless that you and Raymond are both in this situation where it seems like you will have to deal with fighting and banishing demons on a regular basis for the rest of your life, but when Rebecca sees her father, he gives her the advice that she needs to let go of her past mistakes and experiences, so the demons cannot use that to manipulate her anymore, and he gives her the courage and purpose to continue doing her job without fear or hopelessness, making Rebecca realize that she has the knowledge and power to cleanse the world of evil, and that it's the demons who are afraid of her.

Ok to answer his question on how long a body stays good: Rigor Mortis starts to set in 3-4 hours after death. 12 hours is peak rigor (the full body is stiff), around 20-24 hours the body has left rigor. For temperature (algor mortis) the body loses 0.56-1 degrees celsius each hour until it has reached the room's ambient temperature. Some things like atmosphere obviously affect this. Finally we have the eye decomposition which doesn't have a fancy name, but if we were to follow the theme it would be Oculus Mortis. Around 2 hours after death the cornea begins to cloud and only becomes more opaque over the next few days. The amount of clouding can help determine how long a body has been dead. Finally, smell. Anywhere from 24-72 hours after death the organs start to decompose and gas is released, emitting an odor. 3-5 days postmortem liquids start to be excreted and the body turns more green. A lot of this has to do with the amount of work someone has to put in on a body. I'd say in my high-school forensics class level proffessional opinion, it'd be best for a body to be found within 5 days, but until the flesh starts to decompose, you still have a shot.

I used to be an eye tissue recovery technician. Once the person died, me and the organ donation team would have 24 hours to get our stuff done before they were taken to the funeral home. A cool jumpscare I thought would work great, would be during the teeth stitching segment. Imagine if you wind it up and click the button to add a stitch and after after a few times you click the button to add in a stitch, imagine if the head reacted and screamed as if in immense pain, but only for a couple seconds. If that happened to me, I'd not only freak out for a moment, but every time I go to do the stitching portion of the mini game I'd be completely on edge for the possibility of that happening again.

The format and concept of this game lends itself _very_ well to expansions and other stories. Visage does a similar thing, changing the mechanics per area to tell the stories of different victims. Seeing Raymond's decades of torture and hearing how he's battled with his own insecurities and self-blame would be fantastic, but we could absolutely also get more linear experiences (1 or 2 endings per) of each of the characters that died leading up to Rebecca being hired.

It strikes me that these demons *really* aren't good at persuasion! The one in the basement could make some progress begging, but she keeps blowing her cover and reinforcing that letting her out is a BAD idea with the threats! The one attempting posession is even worse, its pleading to be "let in" isn't even tempting if it didn't *also* suddenly revert back to threats. It's not even clear how the threats *work* in this case, since it can't carry them out if you don't comply, but shouldn't need to if you do!

An uncle of mine actually found his calling as a mortician. He's always been a bit of a nerd when it comes to morbid stuff. He has rooms with creepy books, skulls, and weird stuff, which was fun cuz it was also the room I slept in when I visited him as a child! He just likes things that would make the normal person's skin crawl, and was very excited to become a mortician.

To help answer Sean's question on "how long bodies usually sit for", when my dad passed his body spent 2 days at the corner (because he passed very suddenly with no initial explination), and then it was another 5 days before he was buried. We had 2 days to arrange his funeral and the very first thing they made us do was to pick out his casket.

I love how calm Jack is with this. Like when the Grandma shows up Jack is just annoyed and like 'not now Granny i'm busy.' I wonder if there's a horror game out there where the 'hero' or 'main character' is just super indifferent and doesn't give a shit as horrific things happen around them.

The thing I love about watching this game was that, like you said in the end part, it doesn't go overly heavy on the jumpscares. I love when the horror lingers and it's there if you see it. The fact you don't know how long some of those creatures are standing there, looking at you the whole time, is freaky. That to me is scarier than any jumpscare with big sound effects. It's psychological. Certainly some devs should take inspiration of this game and how it delivers scares.

That scene with the demon trapped in the coffin, and its just talking to you was so cool! "letmeout-letmeout-letmeout" great voice acting for such a small game! Great art direction, even pretty good animation for a game made by one guy! I gotta try this game, the randomized scares seem to make it so unique. I love that it doesn't solely rely on cheap jump scares like what Layers of Fear does. You either SEE the demon, it's makes you more afraid of your environment and its unpredictability, or it progress' the story! It's great, I love the Hereditary vibes

To answer Sean’s question of “What made you want to choose this career?”: I’ve been wanting to pursue a career in mortuary science ever since I was a junior in high school. When I first started high school, I wanted to go to cosmetology school since I was always fascinated with makeup. Once junior year hit, I needed to find a college that offered cosmetology programs and classes. There really wasn’t a lot in my area, and I felt like all hope lost for finding a school to go to. My guidance counselor calls me in their office and suggests I go to school for mortuary science/studies since “it’s like doing makeup… but for dead people”. I was the stereotypical goth kid in high school, too. So I thought it was funny that they suggested that, but as time went on, I was actually considering it. Here I am, 26 years old, *still* contemplating pursuing a career as a mortician. Human anatomy has always fascinated me and why not? 🤷🏽♀️ TL;DR: my guidance counselor put a bug in my ear to be a mortician when I was in high school and I’ve been contemplating going to school for it, to this day. So… yeah. That’s my story.

I have a friend who went to uni and double majored in English and Theater. She was always a bit macabre so after the pandemic and all the shit that happened in America, she decided she was done with the living and went to school to be a mortician. She’s as happy as I’ve ever seen her and said the only downside is the weird dreams that come from embalming. Not nightmares just odd dreams. If it doesn’t bother you to be around death and anatomy, go for it. From what I hear it’s very rewarding to “fix” people so they look how they’re loved ones remember them one last time for closure.
@The1nvisibleJeevas2 жыл бұрын
I think a lot of morticians and mortician wannabes have family in the medical fields. Feeling up dead or unconscious strangers and cutting them open isn't that weird to me because my dad is a surgeon and I grew up around hospitals all the time. I'd consider being a mortician if the smells weren't always so bad.

The closure ending was the first thing related to the death of someone's father I've been able to watch without losing my crap in a long time. The anniversary of my father's traumatic death was a few days ago, and this... helped... somehow. Knowing that you lost your father as well helped me stay along for the ride, and the belly-button joke was so perfectly timed to relieve the tension of grief. I'm actually very impressed. "How long does a body stay good?" I used to be an eye tissue recovery technician. We worked with organ donation and from there, they'd go to the funeral home. We had 24 hours from death to do our recoveries, so I would assume the funeral home had anywhere between 24-48 hours to do their part. A body is good for ~48 hours.
@ZenerRocksMC2 жыл бұрын
It’s a little different for internal tissues vs exterior tissues, organs are more exposed to our microbiome which is why they are one of the first to degenerate because they quickly become food, especially as their enzymes and proteins denature below body temp.
@pucamisc2 жыл бұрын
It’s also a little different because organs need to be harvested before decay sets in. So a body could be good for a few days if no embalming is done at room temperature. If kept cold it lasts longer. Not every body in embalmed and in the US it’s not legally required even though most funeral homes try to make it seem like it is.
@lefthandedjanice2 жыл бұрын
@@ZenerRocksMC Really? A few days at room temp? That's insane. Do they put them in a bag or anything or just take them out? I only got to pop in the morgue and do my recovery or in the prep room at the tissue recovery site. I never got to see the funeral home side of things.
@wolfiemuse2 жыл бұрын
@@lefthandedjanice I think they just meant that the body looks alright for a few days at room temp, but according to other comments on this vid from morticians, it’s hugely dependent on the condition of the body, climate, temperature, and even what caused the death. From everything I’ve ever heard/researched, organs have to be gotten VERY quickly. Like I think most have to be gotten in like 48h or less I think. But the body could **look** alright for longer than that.

as someone who is planning on being a medical examiner or mortician, honestly I just find the field super fascinating and I know its the kind of field that could be beneficial to families and provide closure to those who have lost loved ones. "You're gonna have to speak up, I'm wearing a towel," has very similar energy to one of my favourite brands of joke, that is switching senses. Like, "I'm sorry, I can't hear you, I don't have my glasses on/it's too dark."

My favorite is when those sentences make sense. Like Muriel from Courage the Cowardly Dog. She says "You know I can't hear you without my glasses" - they offer that maybe she either literally is hard of hearing and has to watch Courage, or because Courage doesn't speak english she literally has to WATCH him to understand him - thus can't "hear without her glasses"
